I am not a long time user of facial oils because I’ve always had trouble figuring out how to use them with my combination oily / dry skin, so I preface this review with the disclaimer that Acure Marula oil is the only face oil I’ve used with any regularity. So far, I’m pretty happy with it. I was unable to use it straight on skin without it being super greasy, even with the technique of rubbing a couple drops between palms and patting on skin. For that reason, it is a complete no-go for daytime. However, the pat-on method or mixing in as a booster to a heavy night cream have both worked exceedingly well for my very dry areas in my night time routine. The price is quite affordable–I think I paid around $15 at Whole Foods. Packaging is ok–the pump is fine (tho difficult to dispense small quantities), but the clear glass bottle doesn’t help reduce oxidation (best to keep it in a dark cabinet). I would definitely repurchase, but will probably try some other oils to see which one is really best for my skin.

EEK! I wanted to try this first before purchasing Drunk Elephants to see how my skin reacted to marula oil. Within 20 minutes, I had so many breakouts and my pores were huge! My face looked awful. I then tried using it on my chest area and it also caused acne and marks. Now I’m just rubbing it on my hands and feet until I use it up.

I’ve been using facial oils, usually Argan oil for years and sometimes a an oil blend from Boots so I figured I would give Marula Oil a try. This differs from the other oils that I have use in that it is thicker in texture, and does have a bit of a natural aroma, sort of an earthy grass/hay type smell. My skin tends to be dry with the exception of my nose, and I tolerate oils very well. For whatever reason this one cause me to break out with several small white heads. I discontinued using it, cleared up, tried it again and more whiteheads. Since the face seems to be a no go for this product on me I’ve been using it on my skin and hair, my hair seems to like it but I only put a partial pump in my palm, rub is between my hands and run it through the ends my hair. Despite the fact that this oil is fairly thick, it does not weigh down my find strands. This is very budget friendly at around $15USD a pop and for an inexpensive product, the bottle is exceptional.

To begin, I wanted to say how much I LOVE ACURE products! First I bought Acure Seriously Glowing Serum. I fell in love with it! It transformed my skin. Now it is glowing, practically flawless and soooo soft!
So I decided to try Acure Marula oil. Now, this one I was a little nervous about. Mainly because I have oily skin, so I have to be somewhat careful. But I learned from doing some research that Marula oil is non-comedogenic and is pH balanced. I also read tons of positive reviews on amazon, which further confirmed that I needed to try it! So, here I am, 2 days into use and I already know that this will be a permanent part of my beauty routine. Twice a day, I wash my face and after a spritz of toner, I apply a drop of SG serum then a drop of Marula oil. It sinks right into my skin with no greasy residue. It even wears well under makeup. I’ve found that my face is actually LESS oily than it used to be judging by the shrinking amount of blotting tissues I go through daily. So impressed and very happy to find some AMAZING, cheap, natural alternatives to anti-aging and beauty as I enter my 30’s.
I would recommend both of these products for women with oily/combination skin. Have had the best experience with both!!!
UPDATE:
So, ladies, sadly I must say that I had to stop using Marula Oil on my face :(. I think I got a bit too excited about this and didn’t give it enough time to really see how well this works with my skin. After a few days of using it, I started breaking out really badly on my forehead and around my mouth, with a vengeance. It was terrible! I figured out it was the Marula oil and now I am only using it on my hands. So, I guess I’ll be sticking with my Acure Seriously Glowing Serum. It is one of the only products I’ve found so far that doesn’t give me horrible acne. If Marula makes you break out, I suggest SG.

I was looking for an affordable Marula oil alternative to my premium brand one, and was delighted to come across this product at just $13! When it arrived, I also thought that the (new) opaque glass bottle was very attractive and had a luxe feel, considering the price.
However, when I actually used the oil, I was surprised to see that it was clear in colour. The marula oil I have used previously was yellowish? I am not sure if that means that this version is “refined” with chemical processes that might diminish some of the benefits. Also, the oil didn’t absorb quickly like a “dry oil” as described in other reviews, perhaps because I live in a tropical climate. Instead, it kind of sat on my skin, and I have also noticed slight bumps on my face after using it once.
I will probably use this more as a treatment oil for dry cuticles and patches, rather than all over my face.

This is the same thing as Drunk Elephant, exactly the same. The only difference is Drunk Elephant is $72.00. I have never purchased Drunk Elephant but I have tried it, one of my friend’s owns it and she has tried mine and neither of us can tell a bit of difference
It now comes in an opaque white pump bottle instead of the old clear bottle. I added a picture of the new packaging. It also had a slight name change, see above in description from the website.
I use this on my face before I apply my moisturizer or mix a couple of drops in with whichever moisturizer I am using. I also mix it with Cerave Cream and apply to my legs which tend to always be dry. Adding a few drops of this oil seems to help increase the penetration of other lotions or creams.When I use it alone, my skin drinks it right up with no oily residue. I use a couple of drops each morning on areas with fine lines before I apply my makeup. I also use it on my cuticles, heels and lips. I’ve never used it on my hair, so I can’t say if it works well for that or not. I also use their Rose Argan Oil on my body, not my face, and I like it as well.
The price is great, it never causes any irritation or breakouts on my skin. It makes my skin soft and well hydrated. It leaves my skin looking fresh, bright and firm & I also see a reduction in fine lines when I use it before applying my foundation. If you’ve never tried Marula, this is an affordable option. Then if you love it and feel Drunk Elephant must be better, pay $72.00 and get that one. My guess is later you will wonder why you paid $72.00 and go back to buying this one. Just to cut Drunk Elephant a break, I do love their T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial and think it is well worth the price.

Great product that I discovered from Beautypedia. Lightweight oil then sinks in quickly, doesn’t leave my face feeling as sticky or heavy as say, argan oil. Very moisturizing.The pump bottle is very convenient and the price can’t be beat (it’s the exact same thing as Drunk Elephant’s for much less). The only thing that I wasn’t too wild about was the slightly nutty smell which to be fair, was expected and nowhere as bad as same other facial oils (like Sunday Riley’s Juno which I love for it’s glowing properties but hate the cumin like smell). Would I buy it again? Absolutely.

My go to product together with DHC cleansing oil, Sensai tonic and BT light expert foundation.
I have used already 3 bottles and it will be more for sure.
I need it in my bathroom-when last bottle is almost empty I go to buy new one!
Great and cheap product. Its is “dry” oil so after 5 minutes you dont have that feeling that something sticky is on your face.
I am using this 3 times a week for night (only this) in the morning : face like a baby.
Great for acne faces and for all people with dry skin.

Still haven’t found anything better than sweet almond oil for my skin.
It’s the only oil I have found so far that does not break me out. No pimples at all and it makes my skin softer than anything else I’ve used, including creams and lotions. I put this on under my lotion and my skin feels hydrated. If I use the lotion alone it’s not as soft and moisturized.
I wanted to try marula oil because it has a higher antioxidant content than sweet almond oil. However, it is definitely not as hydrating as I thought it would be… I do like how it sinks in quicker than the almond oil. But my skin needs that moisture. For this reason I will either return it or use it with the almond oil. Hasn’t broken me out yet…
