I love this stuff and buy it whenever I’m in Germany. Texture-wise, it’s very similar to Weleda’s Skin Food, a thick, almost greasy paste-like cream. That probably sounds awful, but it isn’t. I love this as a barrier cream in cold weather or on stubborn dry patches at any time of year. It smells like roses and herbs; fragrance isn’t skin care, yadda yadda, but I do like the scent. Last time I was in Germany, I paid 6 or 7 euros for a 30 ml tube. The tube is metal, so it gets crumpled and gross over time, but it does keep the cream cool and fresh.

I bought this product because my skin was EXTREMELY dry and flaky. I tried so many things and one day ran across this at TJ Maxx. It cost $7. The packaging was old and crushed but after looking at the reviews I went for it. In a matter of a day my skin looked so much better. A week later (after applying it mornings, evenings, and nights) my skin was completely glowy and normal. The only negative side effect was that I slightly broke out. The smell was really nice and I loved how it felt on my skin. It felt like a bit icy. Anyways I would HIGHLY recommend this. I actually just bought another one (for $12 but IT IS WORTH IT). GO FOR IT LADIES

Omg, words can not explain how much I love this stuff. I had red scaly dry patches in my cheeks and forehead and face kept peeling and would get cracks on the side of my mouth. Although I am using another plant bases line that helped with my red dry patches, I definitely need this stuff to make the peeling dead skin go away completely. This stuff soaks up well, non-greasey, lasts all day, really protects my skin and the price is cheap but good products. I will be checking out more products from this line.

For skin emergencies, I know I can always turn to this product. I cannot always use this cold cream, because it tends to break me out if my skin is doing alright. On the other hand, when my skin is itchy and peeling in the winter (even though it is oily), I can rely on this cold cream to zap the flaking overnight without turning me into a greaseball. I can also selectively pat it on over makeup during the day to help keep my face from looking greasy or my makeup from caking. I think that the price is also very reasonable. I like the metal tube packaging, which is Weleda’s signature packaging, because it allows you to squeeze every last drop out. This is a good buy.

I’ve used this stuff for years, since before the product name changed, and have always loved it. It’s not the right texture for my skin as a general facial moisturizer, but it is PERFECT for chapping, windburn, dry cuticles, rough skin patches, etc. I’m always especially grateful for it if I get a cold–my nose gets so red and painful and chapped and cracked. I put this on and it is instantly soothed. If I remember to put some extra on before bed every night, I find that the I’ve-been-sick nose skin heals extra quickly.
Also, I know Weleda makes an Everon lip balm, but I find the texture a bit too waxy, and I love to put this on my lips when I don’t want shine. It soaks in and feels wonderfully soft.

I love all Weleda products so I am a bit disappointed that this didnt work for me. It is indeed very moisturizing and great for sensitive, dry skin; but I think the peanut oil in this might be a little too heavy for my skin since I experienced some small breakouts the same day I would use this. It looked beautiful underneath my Dalton conceal-it concealer (which I use as full face foundation) since this cold cream gives you a dewey. moist healthy glow. But like I mentioned, I would get these little pimples that very same day. I only tried it a few times and it nearly happened every time. I would then switch back to my Weleda Almond cream and breakouts would clear right up. (i know its not the makeup since I continued straight through and have been using Dalton concealer since I bought it.) It has a rose scent which is a little stronger than the Weleda Rose Smoothing Day cream but it didnt upset my sensitive nose. I think if you like the Almond cream or Weleda moisturizers in general, than you will probably like this if you are not sensitive to peanut oil.

I had to change my initial review, because whilst this certainly did a good job at hydrating my skin the seriously strong fragrance just ended up irritating my skin and making me breakout with red welt like lumps, especially on sensitive areas like the cheek. Such a shame it didn’t work for me but I can imagine non-sensitive, dry skins loving this!

This is my to go product when I have really bad eczema flare-ups on my face and body. I get itchy bumps and dry skin when that happens and this seems to be the only thing that can normalise and soothe the itch on my skin, including flare-ups on my eyelids.
I’ve tried raw shea butter, camelia oil, cocoa butter, physiogel, but they don’t soothe the irritation and itch as well as this.
The texture is greasy but I really don’t care because I just need to not feel itchy and irritated with the flare up. I just let the hair stay away from my face so it doesn’t stick on and that’s pretty much it.
I‘m on my fourth tube now that I moved to Europe and it’s my lifesaver during autumn/winter months. I just apply this as moisturizer day and night so that my skin doesn’t dry out.
You need to be careful with the tube because bending it too much will break it. A great way would be to squeeze the product from the top of the tube and go downwards as you use it. Love that the packaging uses less plastic!

Love this and Cicalfate. The texture of this one in comparison is a bit lighter and easier to smooth out. Though this one does have a mild scent. The texture is still heavy but lovely feeling.

I would give this 10 stars if I could. It has saved my my super dehydrated, super sensitive skin. My skin is very sensitive to a lot of ingredients, and most cause my eyelids to burn and turn bright red but not the Cold Cream. It has never caused me any irritation, and I have tried every thing available for super dry, sensitive skin. It is so thick but has never caused problems or breakouts. And it soothes and heals my cracked, red winter skin. I live in the cold Alberta prairies so my skin takes a beating in the winter and this has been a game changer, I slather this on my face. It has been the best cream I have ever used. The packaging could be better, I find the metal tube can crack on the sides, but this is my only complaint. I adore this cream.

I love LOVE this cold cream. My skin is a combination of oily esp on my T zone, dry and flakey, acne prone and sensitive.
When you have oily and acne prone skin, you’re afraid to try this out at first because this cold cream’s texture is SO thick. You just can’t help but wonder whether it’ll break you out or not. I first heard of this product when my idol (Eva Green) uses it because her skin is so sensitive and dry as well. I am well aware every person is different but i thought I’ll give it a try nevertheless because none other products works and I’ve been struggling so even if this product fail, ive got nothing to lose but its been amazing
Its meant to be use in the winter but my skin truly is dry and flakey, i just use it all year long. When you first put it on, the texture is so thick and it makes your face looks very oily like its been slathered in oil (not really a bad thing since olive and coconut oil is good to remove make up and they are very hydrating) but i didnt really mind since i used this at night for sleep. The oiliness look will fade by time, so dont worry. When i wake up, my skin really looks moisturised and my dry patches are healed and it didn’t break me out. I use this before i put on my make up too, just put it on ahead of time so the oily look will fade.
My best friend tried it on too and it works great for her! But also, beware, as i said not everyone’s skin will agree because her friend tried it on and it broke her out (maybe because of its thick, creamy texture) but giving this a ‘green light’ was a good decision and i would definitely repurchase it.

For the most stubborn dry patches- but it is thick and slightly greasy looking.
Would only use during the night or mixed in with another lighter moisturizer during the day 🙂

I have tried other cold creams and never liked them. My grandmother had Pond’s. I tried it. It had a lot of mineral oil in it and I never liked the feel or smell of it. I broke out when I used the old-fashioned cold creams.
This is completely different. Kate Somerville’s formulation is more modern. It’s light and fluffy. There is NO mineral oil in this. It’s water-based instead of oil-based. The texture is like cappuccino foam or whipped cream. There is a little fragrance in it, but not overwhelming. It smells lightly fruity to me with a hint of jasmine.
This removes my makeup really well. I use a warm washcloth to wipe it off. My skin feels very soft and smooth afterwards. Does not dry me out like regular cleansers. Her Clarifying Toner is great, too.
The jar is fine but I wish she offered this in a travel tube as well.

I’m in love. My skin has been through some horrible dehydration the last month or so. I stopped my old cleanser and use this cold cream. Been using it less than a week and already have a noticeable improvement. I use the clarifying toner and oil free moisturizer. No shiny skin in the middle of the day. Smooth and soft super moisturized.

I have extremely reactive, sensitive, Rosacean skin due to my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. The first time I tried this my skin was red when I removed it. The second time I tried it stung immediately and 12 hours later I’m still applying steriods and ice to calm my bright red burning skin. I’m returning it to Mecca.

I personally love this:) I am also a Charlotte tilbury junkie and she has a similar product. But I think I like Kate’s a lot more. I got a smaller container of it as a gift sample. Wasn’t expecting much but I am hooked. Perhaps it’s the smell I like. Kind of reminds me of my moms face cream when I was a kid(I am 56). It’s a clean soothing smell. I like it. Now I hope Kate comes out with a jumbo size for the holidays. Tonight I actually used some my cleansed face as a night cream: as I have some dry patches from microdermabrasion. It’s not heavy it’s not greasy. I ordered a large size to keep on using it.

I love this cold cream. It really cleans my skin and leaves it soft. But the reason i gave this a 4 is because it leaves my skin very greasy but is fixed easily with a non greasy moisturizer (witch i use Fruit of the Earth vitamin E cream see review) and light dab with clean towel. I use this in the shower and when i get home from my job. Plus if you take showers in the mourning it really wakes you up.

I finally found my perfect AM cleanser! For years I found any sort of cleanser to be too drying in the morning and using just water didn’t seem to be enough. I wash very thoroughly at night and just need something in the AM to remove moistuizer residue and flakeys from Retin-A or AHA’s used at night. This does the trick! I massage a large dollop on my dry face for about 30 seconds and then let it sit for another 5 or 10. I wipe off gently with tissues and then do a final wipe with a washcloth soaked in tepid water. This feels so soothing and leaves me moist and totally flake-free for makeup. I have been using the CVS version of Pond’s but may use the Pond’s if I cannot locate the CVS brand in the future. Oh, this stuff also works nicely as an intensive moisturizer- in the morning, any left over on my hands I rub into my elbows and forearms- has a subtle lemony scent too.
**UPDATE: I am still using this regulary in the morning. But now I use it to do my own modified version of the Eve Lom morning cleanser routine. I gently massage this all over my face for a few minutes. Then I take a soft, thick paper towel (as opposed to the Eve Lom muslin cloth) and run it under hot water. I lay the hot cloth over my face for about a minute or two. Then I rinse it out again in hot water and then use it to gently wipe off the rest of the cleanser. A few splashes of warm water and I’m done! This leaves my skin looking and feeling soft and smooth and gets rid of all the flakes that build up overnight due to my Retin-A use. Doing this in the morning always makes me more awake and refreshed- it’s what transitions me from being half asleep to more awake and ready to start the day.

I have and would buy it again. Cold-cream seems like a pretty basic product, with few differences between the brands; however, that’s not entirely true. I am also a “Ponds convert,” not liking their reformulated product at all.
Found this at CVS and couldn’t be more pleased. I use it in a 2-step method. First, I remove all makeup with the cold-cream (it is VERY thorough and non-irritating), then apply warm water and a gentle cream cleanser over top of the cold-cream. Follow this with removal (warm washcloth) and done! Clean, moisturized skin with no makeup residue.
I get enough chemicals in my makeup, food, etc., and this is one step where I can cut down on the chemical-overload.

I used this product for 3 weeks and it just broke me out. I have dry skin, sensitive, and acne prone. I was trying to use it for 4 weeks because thats about how long a person should wait to see if a product is going to work for their skin but it didnt work out. I used a tissue to wipe it off and it didnt seem to be working. than i tried a warm washcloth (once) and that broke me out more. I wouldnt buy this again, I think its only good to remove makeup. Right now iam using it as an eye makeup remover.

I decided to try this since the weather was starting to cool off and my skin was getting drier. I have somewhat dry and sensitive skin and use Retin A. This version had less crazy ingredients than the Ponds version so I got it while at CVS. It does have a pretty greasy formula but that is what this product is so I was not surprised. What did disappoint is the fact that after removal with a warm washcloth my face was left red, tight and splotchy and stung a bit. This product is just not for me so I’ll stick with my liquid oil cleanser. Tis might work for some but my skin just was not happy with this product.

Ponds was my staple all-purpose deep cleanser since I started wearing make-up almost 30 years ago but no more. It changed and not for the better. I no longer recognize it, it even smells different and it’s definitely not as effective. I don’t get that deep clean, well moisturized dewy glow any more. I think it may even be giving me clogged pores. So this is where cvs cold cream comes in. Who would have thought? Does everything I’m used to. No greasy residue, just basic deep cleaning without drying me out further. Cheaper and effective. I’m moving on with a sense of sadness.

Background on my skin – Combination, tends to be very oily in the t-zone and normal or dry on the cheeks and around my hairline. My skin is quite sensitive and fair. The outer layer often becomes flaky, and redness and broken capillaries are a common issue. I live in the desert so dehydration is often a problem. I have a lot of tiny blackheads, but do not tend to break out.
My new routine (for 30 plus days) – I’m on a mission to simplify my skin care routine and to stop spending a fortune on high end products that don’t work. So I switched to a generic cold cream (with the 7 ingredients that the old Ponds formula had before they ruined it with a bunch of chemicals). For the past 30 days I have used cold cream nightly to remove makeup (even waterproof mascara) and cleanse my skin. I apply it liberally to dry skin and massage until the cream turns to a thinner consistency. Then I take a hot wet washcloth (squeezed out) and lay it over my face until it cools. Then I gently wipe off the cold cream with the washcloth and additional warm water. If I have on heavy eye makeup, I’ll use a cotton ball and additional cold cream on that area. Sometimes I repeat the entire routine. Then I pat my skin dry.
Often I don’t feel I need moisturizer after this since some of the mineral oil stays on the skin, but if I do moisturize I use a very small amount of an all natural aloe vera and jojoba oil moisturizer. Once a week, I add a small amount of sugar to the cold cream to exfoliate my skin. That, along with the gentle wiping with the washcloth is enough exfoliation for me. I’ve only been doing this routine at night. In the morning I’ve just been splashing my face with cold water and using an SPF moisturizer, followed by mineral makeup. I’m going to start adding Dickinson’s witch hazel to my routine in the morning, and will review that after using it for 30 days.
I could not be more pleased with this product!! The texture of my skin has improved greatly. It feels smooth and moisturized. I have to use less moisturizer generally and sometimes none at all. I’ve seen a huge reduction in flakiness. This product has not caused me to break out. It removes all of my makeup, including heavy eye makeup. I love that it’s gentle enough to use around my eyes and that it keeps that area moisturized. I was surprised to see a slight reduction in blackheads (though I still have a ton) and a reduction in oiliness. I love the simplicity of the routine and find it very relaxing too. The product is inexpensive and easy to find. I’ll update in another 30 or so days, but believe I’ve found my HG makeup remover/cleanser!!
Update as of 1/26/2011 – Still my daily makeup remover/cleanser. I absolutely love it! The witch hazel idea didn’t work for me at all, but I’m just using the cold cream at night (and sometimes in the morning). I’m getting a lot compliments on my skin. It just feels more balanced. I think this product works for me because of the dry climate I live in and the fact that my skin is combination but does not tend to break out. From talking to friends, people who tend to break out don’t always do well with this product.
Update as of 4/16/2011 – Went to CVS and found they have changed their formula to include tons of chemicals like Pond’s did. 🙁 So I revised my ratings of it. I found the original formula in a brand called GoodSense, which I found online. I wrote a review of that brand here on MUA.

Oh how I LOVE this cream. I was looking for something very rich and gentle. I have very sensitive, easily irritated, red, dry skin. Not a fantastic combination. I use this just at night and a pea-sized drop is perfect for my whole face. Very strongly rose-scented, but that dissipates quickly. I hope they never stop making this.

This has become my HG winter moisturizer. I used to get dry scaly patches when the weather changed but this winter I gave this a shot based on my boss’s recommendation – she is a loyal user of the product even in summertime and her skin always looks smooth and dewy.
Cold Cream is a thick cream, more like an ointment, white in color with a rosy fragrance.
I apply it in the morning right after I shower. First I apply Skinceuticals CE Ferulic serum, let it sink in, and then I apply Cold Cream. It is mild enough that I can apply it around the eye area. I walk to work every day so I feel that it protects my skin from harsh outdoor winter weather.
I would not recommend this product for younger people unless you have very dry skin – it is greasy and it tends to sit on top of your skin. In fact I tried this in my early 30’s and I could not tolerate how oily it was. But now that my skin has become drier, I welcome the healthy “glow” that I get from this product.
I keep my tube in the fridge because I have noticed that the cream becomes slightly yellow over time (I keep all my “natural” cosmetics such as Dr Hauschka in the fridge given that they don’t contain preservatives) so I suspect that it oxidizes when exposed to air.

Love Weleda products! This is now known as Cold Cream in Canada. It is a great moisturizer that sinks into the skin completely! Skin feels soft and smooth! I like to press it into the skin using the heat of my fingertips to really make it absorb properly. My skin loves this stuff and drinks it in! Very happy as I needed an intense winter moisturizer. I’m not happy that you get so little product for the price… but since I only use a tiny bit at a time, I can live with it! I order it off of well.ca!

I have very sensitive and dry skin. Yes this made my skin not dry BUT very greasy. Hated the texture. And i think after trying this a whil weirdly my face hair (those very tiny if we look in the mirror kind of hairs) actually stood up! I have no idea why. So it was a waste for me to buy it.

This is a fantastic no frills moisturiser for my eczema prone severely dry skin. Having dry and really tight skin – no flakiness that some dry skin sufferers experience – many dry skin creams don’t make the cut as they do not remove the tightness from my skin and are just not nourishing enough.
Avene’s cold cream’s texture is luxuriously creamy and thick so I would only recommend this for dry to very dry skin types. It provides instant hydration, alleviates that horrid dry skin tightness and leaves my skin feeling really comfortable. The name is befitting “cold cream” – it has a cooling effect on your skin and it has a lovely smell, very old school and classic”!
During the harsh Scottish winter, my skin is severely dry and tight, so much so that I slather my skin in oil and apply this on top – the result leaves my skin gloriously greasy and nourished! Used on it’s own though it isn’t greasy but still nourishing. Don’t be afraid to use it under makeup – if a small amount is used and rubbed in, it does make a good make up base.
Also, this doesn’t irritate my eczema – i was recommended Avene’s special eczema line – which oddly irritated my skin – and surprised the adviser when i told her I used this as she said this should irritate my skin due to its fragrance! The UK online Avene team are fantastic – if you are unsure, get in touch and they will send you samples based on your skin type.
The main ingredients are mineral oil, beeswax and Avene’s thermal spring water which is supposedly meant to be high in minerals antioxidants. There is a lot of controversy surrounding mineral oil, and having tried many alternatives – natural oils, natural butters – I have found it is the only ingredient that leaves my skin comfortable – something i crave from my moisturiser. It also doesn’t have a huge ingredients list – very minimal ingredients which is why i think it is great for sensitive skin types. Barring the thermal water, the cream doesn’t – nor does it claim to – have any high end ingredients, so I always add some cold press organic oil (e.g a drop of pai rosehip oil) to the moisturiser to provide some extra nutrients.
The tube idea is fantastic – hence no need for parabens – BUT it is in a metal tub which often cracks and results in product leaking out! This can be avoided by ensuring you squeeze the tube from the end when using the product (kind of like you do with your toothpaste). The price is reasonable – I usually buy online when it is discounted.

My skin has been so dry, rough, uncomfortable and nothing works (DDML+, Kheils ultra, PC moisture boost, cicalfate, amlactin, weleda almond oil, etc. etc.). I got a sample of this and tried it in the evening after washing. It didn’t spread well- felt thick but not too moist, and immediately had a matte/velvety look(but in bad way, I like a sheen b/c my skin is so dry). Within 1min, I couldn’t tell I had even put anything on. There was not even a protective/filmy feel, my skin just sucked it up and remained dry and rough. Usually when this happens, nothing improves over time. A few hours later when I went to sleep, still the same. I was disappointed. Went to sleep (smelling kind of retro, old lady like, this stuff is highly fragrant, fyi) But, surprise…!!
In the morning my skin was much softer! Not perfect or normal, but a lot better. With every other moisturizer, I’m dry by the time I wake up, even if it went on nicely…it just doesn’t last long enough. I didn’t wash my face in the morning b/c I wanted to see how long this would last. In the evening 6pm, my skin still felt soft, about the same as the morning.
So, this one seems to take a while (4-5+ hours?) to work, but easily lasts 24 hours. I will keep using AM and PM a few days and update. But, for now I give it 3 lippies, it worked better than anything so far, but the smell isn’t great (no irritation, but I’m not sensitive to fragrance- just really don’t like useless extra ingredients), it takes a while to kick in (at least first time), and its a pretty basic formula.
That said, given how quickly it sunk in and left no grease, it might work well for combo/slightly dry types with no waiting.

The CVS brand cold cream is the original formula that ponds used. Like others, I used the new ponds one and found it to be less effective and seemed to break out my skin.
This generic cold cream can take off absolutely any makeup, and cleans your pores to get every trace of foundation and primer out. My skin has improved since using it because I no longer break out from clogged pores. It does contain mineral oil, but it has not seemed to affect my skin or break me out as people say it will. It helps to soften my dry skin without leaving it oily.
I rub it on my face and neck, remove my eye makeup with cotton rounds, and then use a hot wash cloth to remove the rest. It leaves your skin feeling so clean but not stripped at all- this is without a doubt my holy grail cleanser.

I LOVE this cold cream! I recently thought it would be a good idea to simplify my life and go to some basics that seemed to work for my grandmother and great grandmother … cold cream. Noxzema was great this summer, but I need something a little less drying. Naturally I went to Pond’s, not knowing the ingredients had been changed. This was less drying, but my skin burned a little, and it eventually started breaking my skin out (I have very sensitive skin!).
I got to reading about CVS having the original ingredients and bought it a tub for a little over $6. This cold cream is very effective in cleaning out my pores without over drying. I spread it all over my dry face, working it in by massaging in circular motions. I then tissue it off, reapply a small bit and work that in. I then take a warm cloth and warm water and gently wipe away the rest. A little bit of witch hazel when I need an astringent.
This has really cleared up my skin–I went without foundation yesterday and today, which is saying a lot!!

This is very comparable to the Pond’s old formula which I love 100%! (the new formula broke me out and it’s harder to take off!)
