Very good longevity on this one. The scent reminds me more than a bit of Desert Essence Vanilla Chai lotion, spicy vanilla with a touch of cola.

I’m completely addicted to Vanilla Flash. I’ve always loved vanilla fragrances, but this one goes beyond the usual candy / cloying and potentially annoying vanilla scents. It opens with a spicy, almost incense flash then develops into a simply divine scent that’s warm yet detached. Best way I can describe this is a vanilla scent for grownups.

Beautiful spicy sweet vanilla. Not a synthetic overly sweet cloying cake bomb vanilla. Reminds me of a chai latte. My little son approves of it.

Actually surprised how much I love this. At first application you smell anything but vanilla, but it appears after about 10 seconds, in a smoky incense-like base. Lasted all day…gorgeous vanilla smoke. The Tauerville fragrances are actually an amazing deal – Tauerville.com offers all four flashes (the smaller, roll-on version) in a set for the price of two.

Masterful fragrance. Usually not a hater of vanilla but I am not necessarily that much of a lover of it either. Vanillas especially the richer kinds are often too heavy and cloying on me, especially when mixed with amber or something really smoky like tobacco.
This however is beautifully done. It is still sweet and it is still rich and dark, but the tobacco here is so wispy and atmospheric that it is just a sheer and sensuous haze that envelops you and causes the vanilla not to be so… sticky? No amber or notable amber here to make it too cloying either, which for this type of fragrance, I appreciate.
Incense in a fair amount and a dash of dark (read not powdery and more realistic- smelling) rose sing in the background here. The rose freshening up the picture and the incense adding more spice and earthiness and honestly providing a bit more levity to the other notes in the composition.
I am loving this in summer, but for most the home would be in Fall and Winter, I’d expect. Projection in the air is good but not beastly and it wears on the skin beautifully without overpowering or without sinking down too much in that cloying way again that a lot of vanilla-based scents do on me.
Love. Great buy from the noted Andy Tauer, this is the first fragrance I have tried by him. I also have Rose Flash that I am also eager to explore and write a review on. 🙂 Really appreciate niche designers that also do these more affordable (relative compared to niche) commericial lines that allow us to sample some of the quality and genius of their compositions and perspective on making fragrances without the highest of high prices. I get it, some niche perfumes are so delicately and intricately blended or use such rare ingredients that a high price tag even to the extreme (while maybe not “justified” is understandable, but I like this for luxury that seems almost if not just as special and really smells just as beautiful, more affordably.

Edit: added a lippie. I am not a vanilla accord lover and find most vanilla too sweet, too simple, too powdery, but this transcends. High quality, reasonably priced niche offering. Unisex. Although I like all three Flashes that I have sampled, this is the one that I tend to grab the most.

Bourbon rich, spicy vanilla with rose, tobacco and incense oscillating through it. Easy to like even for those who may have skin chemistry issues or aesthetic differences with other Andy Tauer scents, but it did take me a few tries to determine how I felt about it. Basically I didn’t realize how much I liked it until I compared it to other vanillas. . .
VF is far less arid powdery dusty and less honeyed fruity than original formulation SL Fumerie Turque (of which I have a bell jar). There is an emphasis on spicy vanilla, rose and wood in the opening with the tobacco and patchouli becoming more prominent in the dry down. VF is ideal for those who found Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille too sweet fruity or lacking in depth; or Guerlain SDV too boozy but somehow thin bodied. VF is strong, so a single dab is enough to dry down to a cuddly skin scent. Very nice price for a gently priced intro into Andy Tauer. I am a dabber, so I am particularly fond of the rollerball format which I use on one wrist.
VF (12 % parfum) is not as strong as rose flash (20% parfum) which is practically nuclear strength. Not as smokey peat bonfire dry wood as Incense Flash or Lonestar Memories (which is itself more refined, polished booze and campfire and leather in comparison to Incense Flash) VF sometimes starts out raspy in a way that vanilla or Amber or incense can be, but it becomes smooth and soft very quickly and is not cloying. I have been spending the past several days with my nose glued to my wrist (have been wearing rose flash and vanilla flash each on one wrist)
Note: it took me a while to warm up to Andy Tauers aesthetic; I originally thought Une Rose Chypre and Incense rose were not quite right for my skin chemistry in warmer weather, and then suddenly, they clicked and were perfect. Customer service via Tauers website is wonderful, informed, courteous and responsive; the items I have ordered are in pristine condition, well packed and quickly shipped. His thank y notes are beautiful, and I love the presentation of the scents.
If you are looking for a starter basic Vanilla, naturally sweetened but not candied or cupcake, I recommend Yves Rocher Vanilla Noire which is soft, easy to wear and not at all noire to my nose.
And, this might horrify purists, but I sometimes layer a dab (NOT s spray) of vanilla flash with a dab of vintage LHB or Mitsouko.
