In short: This foundation fully lives up to what Estée Lauder claims it will do in my experience and I’m happy with the foundation.
I have only used this foundation for a few days, but I could just tell from the first application that this foundation would work well for me. I have now used it for a few days and I really like it.
Application: I have found applying it in sections, patting it into the skin with fingers is the best way to apply it for me. It’s fairly easy and looks good that way. I tried using a damp sponge and a brush, but I thought it worked best with fingers. It can stick slightly to dry patches, but most foundations will do that and this isn’t the worst when it comes to that (also it’s kind of hydrating or at least not drying? More on that below).
Appearance: Let me go into excessive detail about the finish. They claim it sets to a “soft matte” finish and I would agree. Now what does that mean for this foundation? It’s not completely fully matte in terms of how much light it reflects. It’s more like a satin-matte in terms of how it looks, in that it’s matte, but it still has a subtle sheen to it. It’s a long wearing formula and it really creates a sort of plasticky/vinyl like feeling coating/layer on top of the skin probably from the silicone in this formula. I think that is what imparts that subtle sheen. I also think that layer/film on top of the skin is what gives the finish dimension. It’s like light enters into that layer/coating on top of your skin, and that is what makes the matte finish look dimensional and not flat. Rather than some other foundations with matte dimensional finishes where it’s more of a thin very dry powder/velvet like surface finish, but which still allows a lot of light through that matte finish to keep it from looking too flat. It’s also not like a soft velvety fabric like soft fussy matte finish which I’m not fond of. A bad (I my opinion) matte finish is one that looks flat (which can look quite unnatural because real skin is somewhat translucent. Most of the light that hits bare skin doesn’t actually reflect off the very top surface the vast majority enters the skin and bounces out back from inside it. It’s called sub surface scattering I believe, but I’m not an expert. It’s why until recently most video games characters had very artificial looking skin it’s very resource intensive for computers to create that dimensional skin finish because it has to simulate light actually entering the skin and other objects which is much more complex than just bouncing the light of the top surface.). This does not look flat. Just note that it’s a different sort of matte finish than some (in that it’s kind of a soft matte dimensional coating rather than a translucent dry finish) It’s thankfully also not a matte finish with shimmer for “dimension” *rolls eyes”. I have tested this under a bright light and it doesn’t have pearl/micro shimmer either. A benefit of this kind of coated soft matte look is that it does not look dry! Even when freshly applied it doesn’t need to say be sprayed with a hydrating mist or mix with a bit of my skins sebum to soften the matte finish and keep it from looking too dry. So it has a good finish from the start, so I can just head out the door and it looks good and not dry. I find it also looks fairly natural. It has a nice light-medium buildable coverage. It looks healthy because it’s not overly matte, but also not shiny. It’s also a bit smoothing, but it’s not super natural looking to the point where it becomes one with the skin. It does add a bit of texture like most foundations do to the skin, but it’s not bad and it’s counter acted by the smoothing effect. However it’s not the most beautiful finish ever nor is it preforming miracles on texture. That may be the only thing I can say I don’t like which is that it’s slightly textured looking. But I’m used to very skin like formulas that more or less become one with the skin and those are few and far between. I have a good match in this 1N2 Ecru which suits my N/NW 15-20 skin quite well.
How it wears: This foundation controls oil surprisingly well considering it doesn’t look dry. So unlike some matte silicone heavy primers it does not turn into an even shinier oil slick later in the day which can happen if you have oily areas of your skin with those sorts of products in my experience. I don’t find I need powder with this though a very slight amount in the t-zone does make it look slightly nicer after a very long day. Even after a very long day it looks almost exactly the same as when freshly applied, perhaps slightly less matte in the t-zone, but that’s it. I think if you have all over oily or very oily skin you would like a bit of powder, but this definitely controls oil. It stand up to everything I have thrown at it to test it. Touching my face, taking naps with it on my face mashed into a pillow, working out with it on and sweating. Wearing it for a very long time from early in the morning to late evening. It just stays and looks nice. It can slightly crease on the most difficult of areas for me which are the sides of my nose, but all foundations crease there for me and this takes long for it to do so (and I can apply less product there). If you want a formula that you can just apply and more or less forget about no matter what the day is going to be like this is a great choice. It’s also not drying or too absorbent! I actually feel like it’s almost hydrating the drier areas of my skin a bit? It’s weird, but nice.
Final thoughts:
I don’t think this would be a great foundation for very dry skin. But for my combination skin I really like this! I could see it becoming an every day foundation for me simply because it’s so easy to apply and wear and it’s worry free and looks natural enough and covers enough for my preferences. I could also see this as a great foundation for going out in the evening since it just stays on no matter what. Overall it’s a great.

I never tried the old formulation of this foundation so I can’t compare them. I did use Double Wear for a little while but found it far too heavy, and it seemed to highlight imperfections.
This stuff I love! I have middle-aged combination skin with large pores and this foundation makes it look about as good as it can. I wear this to work and know that it will last really well and still look good at the end of the day. The coverage is medium. I apply it with a beauty blender or my fingers over Trilogy Vital Moisturising Cream. I’ve repurchased this twice, which is a record for me!
I wear the colour Fresco which is a great match.

This used to be my holy grail foundation, good coverage but light enough to not feel heavy or cakey. The new formula seems fine but every time I use it I break out horribly which never happened with the old formula. Will no longer buy because of this.

Perfect! This product was so easy to use that I forgot about it for a while. It works flawlessly and I will definitely buy from them again. I am just curious if I am making too much progress in preparing the new diet and it seems that I was hesitant at first when making this…just before I was starting to feel frustrated and surprised. The look of the top of the post from the nutrition mask seems very finely tuned for my body’s needs. My friends here on SNAP have told me that their talk appears to be that the diet doesn’t work for them at all. Perhaps I will buy this now. I am also looking at the red tape that surrounds the price of the product. It seems that the red tape just makes things harder for me. And, I really would like to see real IUD’s when I have to deal with the dreaded bruises. Overall, I have been looking forward to this product and think it will perform very well for my body and mind.

This is based on one article about fast food producers from an article on Afterlives where they say that food manufacturers want you to use the right ingredients in order to make a dish that you love. I’ve been trying to fit things in because my opinion has changed very little and it was quite disappointing to see that being ripped apart has one thing in common with other foods. I don’t know if it’s the lack of time,, necessity, or sanity at the ingredients level that causes me to eat this, but it certainly worked out very well. Plus, these ingredients are rich and easy to work with, and it sounds like everything that ends up as an egg would taste fantastic after living with the recipe.

I wore double wear light for a good 5 years. It was perfect for my troublesome, acne prone but dry skin. I could wear it to my corporate job, weddings and special occasions as well as coffee on Saturday morning with my girlfriends without looking too made up. It was the perfect all-occasion foundation. I also loved that I didn’t need to think too much about makeup- most days I’d just put it on with a pat of blush and mascara and be ready to go. It was perfect…. and then they changed it.
The new formula is awful- it made me break out terribly. I’m still trying to find a foundation that it as good as the old DWL. I hate that brands feel they need to constantly update products. If anyone from Estée Lauder is reading: please bring back the old formula!

This is, by far, the worst foundation I have ever used in my entire life. I have had to buy super cheap foundation at some points, and it is of better quality than this not-so-cheap garbage. You can squeeze the tube sometimes and all that comes out is oil. No foundation. For over $40, I expect a hell of a lot better. Estée Lauder is becoming such a colossal joke. Application is also splotchy and uneven even using top of the line brushes. Never ever waste your money on this “foundation.”

I used to love the double wear light and have been wearing it for the past 5 years. Since they reformulated it, it’s now completely horrible. I have acne-prone, oily skin and it comes apart on my face, looking splotchy and “piling”. When I try to fix it with my fingers or a sponge, god my face looks terrible.
Looks like I need a new foundation. What a letdown.

I tried DL Light a few years back and it was very drying and chalky, with only a few shades available. I bought the reformulated version, and this stuff kicks butt! It goes on sheer, buildable to light-medium at best, which is precisely the kind of coverage I’m looking for. It does live up to its name of “soft matte,” as it gives a satin finish with a slight glow that doesn’t make my face look flat like it was before it was reformulated.
My favorite part about this is that, like a lot of reviewers have stated, it stays put all day. My face doesn’t get oily, nor does it separate anywhere on places where other foundations do. It looks insanely natural when applied with a sponge. I found I have to let it dry down on the first layer before I can build it up. But I like having the option of just applying a sheer layer on lazy days like a tinted moisturizer – a lot of TM’s tend to disappear on my face by the end of day, but this one wears so well.
My biggest gripe on this foundation is the shades. Oh my god, the shades. EL shades are just so confusing, because they don’t always match up from product line to product line. This product in particular seems to be one shade lighter than its Double Wear/Double Wear Max counterpart. I have a tan right now that puts me to about NC30-35, and on Double Wear, I would be about a 3w1. I settled on 4w1 on DL Light because the 3w1 is way too light, I think it’s closer to NC25. It’s a little on the orange side, but it’s not terribly obvious. You have to choose a shade down for this particular foundation. Definitely worth swatching in person before buying, as it’s very confusing.

I took the time to register just so I could write a review on this makeup. I have used double Wear light for many years probably close to 12 maybe 13 and have loved it. the change in shades has been very disappointing. I have tried twice to find the shade that I used to use but tries have turned out bad. Going to have to move on to some other brand. also you are getting a little too pricey it seems almost every time I buy a new tube it’s gone up a couple of dollars I think when I first started buying it it was $25. Now it’s $44 with tax just a little too much.

I got this as a foundation for Australian summers. It has been great and provides natural coverage. I have sensitive dehydrated skin and this has not caused me any irritation, dryness or breakouts. It also does not cling to any dry patches. I make sure to moisturise before I use, and also apply the urban decay optical illusion primer.
It has fantastic staying power, and doesn’t slip and slide throughout the day.

For the price of this foundation, I was slightly disappointed. The lightest shade did not suit my very pale skin and made me look orange and a bit tacky. The formula itself is nicely moisturising and glides on well, but I find that after a few hours it settles and clings onto dry patches, and this isn’t very flattering. However, it does last a long time on the face and feels nice and light on. Buy it if you have normal or oily, medium-dark to medium-light skin.
