This has changed my life. I’m someone who’s suffered from excessive hair growth since puberty, but doctors not taking the issue seriously enough have led me to live my summers covered shoulder to ankle, and wearing any type of dress or shorts and cami top was an ordeal. However this has allowed me to feel normal for the first time in my adult life. I’ve got so much confidence, and better yet I can do so much more now that I’m not constantly worried about finding the time to shave every inch of my body before spontaneous trips to the beach etc. Although I’m far from hair free, my hair growth is definitely looking more like a normal woman’s, in that I could wear ankle grazes without someone laughing at how they could see my leg hair from 2 or 3 metres away (which has actually happened more than once to me). My legs have responded the best, I have large patches without any hair and the rest is wispy. I also had a lot of hair on my buttocks and down the backs of my thighs, and that’s moreless disappeared now. My bikini line and armpits haven’t really changed at all, and I’m in my 4th month of fortnightly treatments; I’ve had to continue with the ‘boot camp’ phase since I noticed my hair growing back if I left it 1 month. However I had been a bit too chicken and had been using setting 4 despite having pale skin and black hair, so I’ve been using 5 for the past few sessions. The hair on my arms has responded well, I think because I had never shaved it before and it was therefore similar to a normal female’s hair type, I actually stopped after 2 treatments on setting 5 because it was so effective. I really urge any other hirsute women out there who think nothing could possibly sort their problems out to try this. Unless you have excessive hair growth you’ll think I’m being dramatic, but this is truly truly lifechanging, and I’m happy paying the £250 I picked up the lumea prestige for that.

I love this hair removing laser! It works on both your face and your body, I’ve been using it for approximately 3 years now and it certainly does the job, the hair doesn’t grow back for weeks and if you keep using it regularly the hair won’t grow back at all until you completely stop using it for several months.
I intend to continue using this product indefinitely!

i`ve recently bought the model essential bri862.this is not a gun shaped type.it has lighter and sleeker design.the price is cheaper then prestige or advanced models.i did my first session last week.i haven’t seen any results my hair grows back at the same speed but i noticed my hairs are growing back softer.it is too early to speak negative or positive but the device is very easy to use and not heavy.its not tiring and did the job very quickly.not painful just feeling hotness on skin and it is not unbearable.i am fair/very pale skinned and my hairs are not super black but brown so I’m the right candidate for this device.i will update the results soon.

2.Session: yesterday I’ve done my 2nd session.for the past 2 weeks i didn’t see a significant change.i noticed some bald spaces on my lower legs.i can say 10% reduction after first session.but the growth speed is the same.i feel like hairs thinned out a little but i am not sure.I’ve done only my legs.but today also I’ve started my first treatment on bikini and belly.i don’t expect miracles after 1 session but i hope it will work.I’ll update my review after each session.
UPDATE:Today I’ve done my 2nd session on my belly&bikini area.yesterday done my 3rd session on my legs. belly hairs get thinned out(kinda) but still growing after 1 session.that’s promising.but for my bikini area there’s no change.
For my legs i am getting a bit annoyed because there is no change in growth rate.but i noticed some small bald areas occurred.i mean approx. coin size.i couldn’t get rid of stubbleness yet.

I love it,it is expensive but it’s worth it.It saved me a lot of money.I easily get ingrown hair on my legs after waxing so this was perfect for me.I never waxed my armpits because it’s so painful so I had to shave it all the time.But not with this.I love it the most for those tiny hairs above my lip,because it looks horrible on a women.With this you will never have to worry about those.

Mine is four years old and still going strong (hopefully I don’t jinx it). Lumea is honestly great, does what it promises. I’m of European/Scandinavian origin so my hair isn’t super dark but it still works, am used to having no underarm hair now. I paid $599 for mine, so considering the life-span of the product (100,000 flashes unless you get a dud) and how much ongoing laser sessions cost this is good economy. I use mine once a week and have no regrowth. You also get the benefit of hair removal in the privacy of your own home. I will repurchase when my current Lumea’s lifespan is up.

I’m not going to explain the basics about this gadget as others have written about them already. So here are a couple of things I think haven’t been said already:
– Read the fine print before buying. There’s a long list of conditions when you shouldn’t use this device (bruises, freckles, and some medical conditions).
– This takes patience, it’s not a quick process for total hair removal or even a single session.
– If hair removal is a pain and makes you itch like crazy, consider getting this!
– You need to be somewhat flexible physicallly to treat all areas or get someone to help you.
– The pain factor is individual.
Ok, and then to my experience. I have very fair skin with very dark body hair so I’m an ideal candidate for this. The flashes don’t hurt so I can use the highest setting. It’s more painful on the bikini area and arm pits but I can take it and I’ve noticed it hurts less over time.
I don’t draw lines like Philips suggest when I use Lumea but it’s a good idea to draw one on the back of e.g. your calves so you don’t go over the same area many times. The battery doesn’t get me through everything so I usually do armpits and arms on a different session. It’s best to use Lumea when you don’t need to shower or apply products afterwards (e.g. Deodorant). I haven’t noticed any irritation and the hair is becoming patchy although not gone for the most part (after 3 sessions). Shaving is also quicker now and my legs feel smoother and you can’t see a dark shadow as mch on the arm pits since the hair is not growing back. And the biggest thing: no itchiness or irritation! I use an electric shaver which does leave stubble but it’s less now and my skin is not irritated at all by hair removal. This is the biggest plus for me and why I’d recommend Lumea to anyone who suffers from itching. Overall a positive experience so far and I’ll update more later.

what a great pdt! im of indian origin, brown complexion and philips would categorize me in between setting no. 2 and 3. since im indian some areas are significantly darker than others, so I switch between these settings. my first use was a bad experience. as I thought id be between 3 and 4. I was left with scars for 1 month. thankfully its lighter. bt I honestly didnt care as it was only a cosmetic issue. I would do anything if I dont have to ever epilate, shave or visit the saloon for waxing ever again. looks likey wish is coming true. am truly amazed. as the other reviews emphasize – its not permanent. however.. my objective frm using this is not to permanently get rid of hair. It is to get rid of ingrown hair and the scarring caused by it, and to reduce my pores as I had a thick growth. Secretly, I also wished I dont have the most annoying “pubic region itch” after a few days of a shave.. even a wax (I dont think anyone needs to go through this). Im glad to say, its all been taken care of by this machine which is truly a godsend. Despite my scars (My mistake of using a higher setting fr my complexion. pls dont do that! my friends thought I was morphing overnight into a zebra!), I m ecstatic of these results. my scars will fade.. but the fact that I dont have to waste hours shaving, threading, waxing, epilating ever again gives me hope that these medievsl procedures will soon be history. you CAN have that smooth hairless body (fr a long period) afterall!! 🙂

PLEASE note that this product will NOT work for those of you with dark skin or hair that is light. It works by targeting melanin in the root of the hair and destroying it. If your skin is very dark, it could burn your skin, so please check the website before you buy it!
My parents bought this as a gift since I’ve struggled with hair removal my whole life. Short story is, I was bullied a lot and used to spend all my free time locked in a bathroom plucking, epilating, waxing, bleaching, shaving… you name the hair removal method, I’ve tried it. Including expensive but useless home electrolysis kits.
Lumea WORKS. I’m an ideal candidate with fair skin and dark brown to black hair. I’ve used it almost all over my body. Some areas work better than others, especially because you sometimes have to sacrifice strength of the pulsed light to successfully flash the area. You have to be able to press it down evenly on your skin for the machine to allow you to flash it. So you can’t use the regular attachment to do your knees, for example, you need to use the precision attachment and that has an extra layer of glass(?) the light must pass through. Unfortunately, it seems this also makes the pulsed light weaker.
Either way, I’ve achieved 75-90% hair removal. A lot of areas are mostly bald now, with some hairs that have come back finer and grow slower. There are some areas with stubborn hairs that only get reduced growth time (one arm) and still look quite thick, but strangely enough my bikini line is almost completely bald or the hairs are very fine and barely noticeable.
I do still shave my legs every few days, but instead of shaving my entire legs, I have maybe two or three small patches of hair dotted around my calves and I think I can leave my thighs alone for a week. This means it takes mere seconds to feel smooth and hair free.
Yes, this device is expensive, but considering getting intense pulsed light treatment at a salon costs a lot more than one Lumea and you always need multiple treatments, it’s a bargain. No more waxing, no more epilating, no more bleaching, just shaving every now and again.
In the beginning, it took about one hour to fully charge the Lumea. I’ve been using it for four months now and I think it takes about two hours to charge. Please note that I am using it on almost my entire body, so if you’re only using it for your legs, your Lumea will probably last more than twice as long before recharging takes two hours.
It’s easy to use, but can be very tiring when you want to complete a treatment on a large area of your body. I draw boxes with a white eye pencil (buy lots of these!) and tick off areas I’ve already flashed. Usually, doing both my legs from ankle to tops of my thighs takes several hours because of having to wait for it to recharge twice and I can’t wipe off my white lines and start again later else I won’t remember what’s done and what’s not. Keep in mind I never mastered the sliding flashing. I always stop, lift, place, wait for it to be ready and flash, which is probably why I am slow!
It can get rather hot and may feel uncomfortable when pressed against the skin. I often stop and wait for it to cool down a bit before continuing, which is another reason why it is slow for me. The flashing itself does not hurt, it usually feels like the sun on a hot day for a second. The only place it feels a little painful is on my inner thighs and one spot on my bikini line. Even then, it’s like a quick flick with a rubber band.
All in all, I’d rather have slow hair removal once every four weeks than various forms of hair removal every single day (that add up to a lot more time than monthly Lumea sessions). The Lumea has given me a lot more freedom in my life and I’d recommend it to every person who feels they spend too much time removing unwanted hair.

I’ve owned the Phillips Lumea for just over 2 years.
I use it every 2/3 weeks. The hair on my legs, bikini line, underarms and forearms is non existent! You do have to keep doing it to stop the hair returning, as the hair will return (albeit very light and fine) if you stop (I stopped for 6 months and had very fine regrowth) the hair will re-grow.
This is what they say:
“Gentle pulses of light are applied directly to the hair. The melanin in the hair and hair root absorbs the light pulses. This process results in the follicle going into a resting phase. The hair sheds naturally and regrowth is inhibited. A simple and gentle treatment once every two to four weeks will prevent hair roots from becoming active again and prevent new hair from growing back.”
The fact is hair will re-grow, it may grow slowly in some people, but there are no actual permanent hair removal methods. Just inhibitors.
If you buy this product with that in mind, you’ll love it, appreciate that you have to repeat treatment every 2/3/4 weeks and it will serve you well.
The great thing about the Lumea is that you don’t need to buy anything else after you’ve bought it. No replacement bulbs or parts. You pay your money & you get 100,000 flashes out of it. If you’re using it for your arms, legs, bikini line and under arms it takes up around 300/400 flashes per treatment, using it every two weeks means its life of 100,000 flashes will last around 4/5 years.
