I don’t think this helped with my oily skin at all. I wouldn’t buy again. Still working on finding another toner

The product stings my forehead and the area around my nose. The smell is strong but calms down after a while. After using the toner when i use moisturiser it stings more. I used the garnier moisturiser and nivea hydro boost, the moisturiser dont sting if i dont use the toner. It stings every time i use it.
EVERY PENNY COUNTS, DON’T BUY IT.
Am scared of continuing to use it .. What might it lead to…

This is my review for the product: Garnier Pure Active purifying toner pore minimizer (for oily skin with imperfections) – see picture, the blue bottle
I have acne-prone skin, my skin type is oily combination. I have regular redness on my 2 cheeks which sometimes cause acnes in those areas.
I picked this product being attracted to its claim on the package “salicylic acid & purifying zinc” (which is known quite good and effective for anti-acne) and I was also persuaded by the line “oily with imperfection” (which is exactly my skin conditions).
Of course with the price I did not expect to see miracle in couples of days (be realistic, hah ^__^). However I don’t think I am patient long enough to test those benefits and my dissatisfaction came right on the 1st time usage.
1) First: the package, particularly the cap/ or lid of the bottle does not make the tone go out properly. It just flows out in a very messy way that waste a quite amount of toner (as much as the amount I need) out of my cotton pad, even though I place the pad right under the lid. And the tone just drips along the bottle after I close the lid. It is quite annoying.
2) The second and the most annoying thing is the smell….gosh, this is the worst toner ever I smell because it is full of alcoholic smell. But not the kind of easy alcohol like in cider or beer, it is just like the chemical alcohol, reminding me to the clinic or hospital. And the smell is very strong, that I almost think I grap the wrong product, like for wound cleaning product. I really hate that smell. And I realize later by reading the ingredient list that alcohol denat is the 2nd ingredient after water. I woner if it is the cause.
3) The last one: it nearly burns my skin especially on the redness areas, on the chin, and the area between under nose and upper lip.
It is wierd since I am also using another Garnier cleanser: Garnier Skin Naturals Pure Active 3 in 1 Wash/Scrub/Mask 150ml. It is rather good for me, which made me have such high hope for this toner. Anyway, I have to fine another toner…again (sigh)

I have never been one to use toner in my daily skin care ritual. Reading lots of blogs and opinion posts I decided I would try it out. So I went down to my drugstore and saw this one. It was reasonably priced (below $10.00). My first impression was awful, the strong alcohol smell that came after flipping open the lid was terrible.. you might as well apply vodka to your face. Last I used it I was cleaning my face before applying a self tanner. Maybe I just don’t get the idea of toners but I probably won’t be trying one again after my experience with this.

I like this product as it leaves my face very clean, fresh and toned. It has salicylic acid in it and it does really help to fight blackheads, pimples and pores. Price is very reasonable and I dont see any magic in high end toners. They simply do the same thing , so why pay loads?

I don’t recommend putting this on your whole face unless your skin is super oily and even then I’d alternate with a more gentle toner. I do however LOVE this toner! It helps with getting rid of pimples faster and does help with reducing scaring/redness. I am also prone to boils (but not since I cut out gluten but that’s another story) and this toner was wonderful to help clear them up and help with scaring. I agree it can be drying and the smell is fine to me. This toner is marvellous if used on specific pimple areas, but not all over your face. I could be wrong but I haven’t seen it in any chemists or supermarkets in Australia lately, so we may not have it here anymore. I will be devastated if it’s discontinued.
12/03/2015 edited to add: Found out it has been discontinued – so disappointing.

I got this toner while I was in the process of rehabilitating my skin, had minor breakouts.
Overall this toner has done good to me. It works well in drying up my acne as I really believe in salicylic acid as an acne treatment. I have sensitive skin but it did not react to this toner although it feels a little harsh – strong smell (not a problem to me), painful stinging (for the first few seconds), and can be a teeny bit drying.
My acne overall dried up and subsided fast and it helped somewhat in oil control. I only use it once a day and pour a little amount on a cotton pad. For non-problem areas, a quick wipe will do because I fear it’ll irritate my skin (bad experience with sudden skin rashes).
I do not like how the product is dispensed because I always spill more than I need, or maybe I’m just a klutz. And the cap is terribly hard to open, always a struggle. So 3 lippies for packaging.
Since my face is almost clear of active acne (save for one), I use this toner on my back for the occasional acne. It works wonders for acne skin. This product doesn’t do anything for scars though.

This toner reminds me of a bathroom cleaning product. It smelled awful, burned my skin extremely bad (I do not have very sensitive skin), and did not clear up acne.

Despite reading a lot of negative feedbacks about this product, I still gave this product a try after having a massive pimple breakout. Thankfully, I tried this product!
At first, I used this product with vigilance to cautions mentioned in different reviews – it stings so avoid using it near the eye area and only use it on the problem areas. After few days, I saw the changes. My pimples (and acne) were solved. There was a significant reduction on my pimples.
After having my pimples reduced, I tried applying the toner on my whole face. For weeks, I didn’t notice many pimple growing in my face. (My skin is oily, acne prone so i always had pimples popping in random places of my face).
It’s been few weeks and I haven’t been experiencing outbreaks.
However, this product still has its cons:
It stings, especially on the parts where the pimple grew.
Its smell is not really pleasing. It smells like a medicine.
I finished my first bottle in just three weeks (I wished It had a bigger package)
Lastly, this is for oily, acne-prone skin (I think).
It dries the skin, but because My skin is pretty much oily, I guess I didn’t experience the dryness that others had.

Was very drying on my skin, smelled very strongly of alcohol, and i did not care for the packaging. I am willing to look past all of that if the product actually cleared up acne. Unfortunately, it did not help my acne, and made it somewhat worse.
