“If you like Giorgio, you’ll love Primo.” Love it I do! I was decanting perfumes today and one on my list was Primo. I had originally decanted into a rollerball bottle but the spray contains some kind of propellant or is pressurized and it leaked all over the place. This time I got smart and decanted into an atomizer so it’s not one continuous stream that will asphyxiate wildlife within a 100 mile radius. Now onto the scent itself: as I was spraying it into the atomizer, I kept getting whiffs of crushed concord grapes. It was like a rush and I was loving it. Then I realized it must be the white florals from the Primo. I get the “crushed concord grapes” vibe when I first apply my vintage Poison and PS Design as well and they also have white florals. I touched the bottle that I had decanted the Primo into and kept getting this glorious scent of crushed grapes then white florals-I’m in love! I’ve decided that no matter what the weather this week- one day I’m wearing Primo! Don’t get me wrong- I love pre-Elizabeth Arden Giorgio, it’s just that Primo is fruitier and more vivacious. Others on this site have attested to that (only just now I can’t find their reviews, but I’m right there with you in the Primo camp, ladies!) It’s dirt cheap and one bottle should last me a lifetime, if it doesn’t, I’ll know I’m using too much!
6/8/15 ETA: Well, the atomizer I decanted the Primo into leaked, so glad I had the foresight to seal it in a ziplock bag just in case this happened. I guess I’ll have to keep the bottle out of storage. I think I will have to apply it with a cotton ball out of the spray bottle. I did wear it today and a co-worker said “You smell so springy!” I noticed on the box that this comes in Parfum strength- be careful, though, as the cologne wears like a Parfum. I applied it at 9AM- it’s now a little after 3PM and I’m still getting whiffs of it! Love Love!

I had to add this post, as I just tapped into 1980’s nostalgia with an eBay purchase of this knockoff fragrance of Giorgio Beverly Hills.
I was 15 when this fragrance was big & I used to buy this drugstore version for just a few bucks because as a teen I had no money for the real thing. I loved the way it smelled & I love that it still smells the same today – the formula hasn’t changed. I’m actually surprised it’s even still around – most products (especially cult hit fads) disappear into oblivion eventually (or even faster if they’re my personal favorites). Giorgio came out in 1981… 30 years later Primo! is still around… I’m stunned by that.
I found the aerosol body spray @ the drugstore the other day but I wanted the cologne version which I picked up off eBay. Both smell fabulous & cost next to nothing. One spritz on my wrist & I’m back to 1987 all over again. 🙂 It’s subtle enough to not offend anyone & fragrant enough to make me happy – a sparkling pick-me-up that dries down to a bright creaminess. It’s lovely close to the skin & doesn’t smell like a cheap perfume. It lasts all day long.
Primo! may be an imposter fragrance, but it stands on its own. It’s withstood the test of time remarkably. I wonder if anyone else out there still wears this…….
