I’ve seen a few review pages dedicated to various oils (mineral, argan, castor, etc.), so I was surprised to see that hemp seed oil doesn’t have a page of its own. Let’s rectify that, shall we?
Hemp seed oil is a fantastic oil for all skin types, but it’s done particular wonders for my oily, acneic skin. Grapeseed oil, the holy grail oil for skin like mine, breaks me out. This oil does not. It’s got a comedogenic rating of 0, after all.
I’ve been trying to make some of my own products (both for environmental and cost purposes): my moisturizer is a personal mix of aloe gel, tea tree oil, and hemp seed oil, and my skin has never been so soft. In the mornings, I use this in place of a makeup primer (place a few drops in your palm, warm it up, then pat/rub it in), and it’s been working really well so far. (And that one was more a blind luck thing, I’ll be perfectly honest. I wasn’t expecting it to work, but work it did.) Then at night, I rub a handful all over my face, let it sit, and then run a makeup removing pad over my face. My makeup comes right off with little fuss.
It’s got a really earthy, nutty scent, once I initially wasn’t too fond of but that has since grown on me. It’s got a green tint to it (it made my DIY moisturizer go from clear to the color and consistency of the stuff you hack up when you’ve got a bad sinus infection, but it still goes on clear so I won’t complain too much). So make sure that, if you use a lot of it (for makeup removal, mostly), you follow it up with a cleanser and make sure you don’t let too much of it sit.
I really can’t recommend hemp seed oil enough. I use Sky Organics because it was the only one available at our local Walmart and I was too impatient to order something else off of Amazon, but there’s lots of great options out there, Sky Organics included. Pick up a bottle. Your skin will thank you.
