I love the formula, it doesn’t make my lips dry, and my shade (i’ve been) , its very lovely i love how it looks on my skin. The packaging it self is the worst thing about this product. If you buy for the full packaging it cost about AUD 55 and if you only buy the refill (without the gold part) it only cost AUD 34. Like seriously for a student like me, i’m not gonna pay for extra 21 dollars only for the packaging. Overall i love it but i dont know whether im gonna buy it again or not.

I ended out returning this. I couldn’t find the right color and I couldn’t justify the pricetag. The packaging is gorgeous.

I was sucked in too, the packaging is just to die for. But for the hefty price tag (54 Nzd) I was expecting a better product and more of it! I bought 3 shades, I want, I’ve never and I’ll never stop. They are all nudes, that is when you first apply them. The formula changes after an hour or so and makes the colors a lot brighter! So instead of a muted nude rose I end up with bright pink lips! I’m so disappointed because had I known I wouldn’t have purchased any of them. Expensive lesson.
Anyway, as long as you don’t go for the nude shades you should be fine but there are many other lipsticks way better than this. (Essence velvet matte in Donut is my favorite nude and only about $5! Go figure…)

The packaging is all that and a bag of chips and if that turns your head this is the product for you. If you love the film noir cigarette case look, you will love this. I liked the look, but got over it; I’m not all that glamorous in my daily life. And for me the lipstick was just not all that for me. It was such a tiny amount and not that great of a quality. I thought it average. (Don’t flame me.) So I deliberated. One of the colors just did not suit me so when a third of the colors just doesn’t work for you at this price, I just had to wave bye bye. I had gotten Sephora’s nude lip set in the same order and that was a steal for $29 (10 colors) so I couldn’t help but compare and 85% of those lipsticks worked for me. Just had to let this go. I guess I am a quantity girl, and I would have a heart attack if I lost this.

I’m rarely suckered into luxury lines, I own a few pieces here and there (not counting Charlotte Tilbury, who I just seem to LOVE throwing money at!) and outside the Ambient powders, Hourglass really isn’t on my radar. I made a total impulse purchase one day for the limited set of three Confession Lipsticks. They come in what looks like a gold pack of cigarettes- tacky, ugh. But if you like all three colors, they’re actually a great deal! Other reviewers have talked enough about the case and refill system, so I won’t go into that. I have no problem only having the one luxe case, and swapping out my color of the day, takes 5 seconds. I like the fact that you save $12 on refills, even though the price is still abhorrent for the tiny amount of product. These things contain less than the average mini freebie you get as a 100 pt perk from Sephora, and cost $22 for the refill. Keep that in mind. The formula is stellar, though. Comfortable, plush, creamy but never greasy, full coverage in a swipe, doesn’t tug or bleed, and the color selection is beautiful. Outside the three pack- which contains the colors My One Desire (a cool, medium mauve), You Are My (a perfect Rosy brown MLBB color) and True Love Means (a milky nude pink), I’ve also purchased I’ve Been, which I haven’t worn yet. I expect I’ll end up with a couple more of these, but for the price, I’m not going to go too crazy with them. The four I have are lovely, and if I use one up, which is actually a possibility given the size, I might repurchase if I’m not bored yet.

Since these lipsticks were launched I have accumulated six of these beauties! I did however give away two colours as they were not suited to my medium warm skin tone and pigmented lips. They were ‘My Favourite’ (I wish lol) and ‘You can find me’ (this one also settled into my lip lines) I am also happy to say that out of the ones I have now the formula on these is pretty amazing. Here are the ones purchased and love:
I’ve Never
If Only
I’ve Been
One Time
I Crave
I Can’t Live Without
I like how these lipsticks are extremely pigmented (satin finish) with one swipe and cover darker pigmented lips very well. There’s no tugging on lips on application and all of the ones I have are moderately moisturising. The longevity on these can vary from around 3 hours – 5 hours on me depending on the colour you choose and what you eat and drink in between but honestly I really don’t mind reapplying this lipstick as I am happy to flaunt this seriously sexy packaging in public and trust me people will notice! It is so easy to carry too as the lipstick casing is slim in design with a decent weight to it for it’s size which gives it an expensive feel that I really like. You’ll know exactly what I mean when you hold one!
The things I didn’t like so much were mainly to do with how expensive these are and how little product you actually get. I also noticed that if you are buying each lipstick with original casing there is no way of knowing which colour you’re picking from the outside. Whilst I realise these have been designed to be used and interchanged with the refills I find it a little annoying that I have to open the lipstick to know which colour I am selecting. For my own convenience I have now placed the lipsticks in colour families in my collection to ensure it’s not a problem for me but still it’s not ideal and I guess if you’re buying more than one of these it’s a point worth considering before you purchase.

Hourglass has just releases the new Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Refillable Lipstick. These are a decent creamy one swipe lipstick. The formula is nothing new, this lipstick is all about the packaging. There is nothing wrong with the formula or colors- there just isn’t anything new or innovative here. If you are looking for lipstick in a small convenient container, then this is for you!

I first came across the Confession lipsticks in a makeup blog and subsequently went to the Hourglass site to have a closer look at the shades. The Confession line replaces their Velvet Femme lipsticks which have been discontinued. As the previous reviewers have pointed out, the amount of product in the Confession lipsticks is really laughable given the price, but….the precious little product I find simply fabulous! Within two weeks I have bought 5 of these gems, at $34 a piece plus tax. For my NW15 fair skin with blond hair, gray-green eyes and pigmented lips I picked “If Only”, “I’ve Never” “I want” “I am Addicted” “I Can’t Live Without”. And I have to say I adore them all!
Here’s what I like most about them:
– Beautiful shade range from nudes to neutrals, pinks, reds, plums, there is truly something for everyone
– Formula is very elegant and comfortable to wear, intensely pigmented so there is good coverage with one swipe
– Thin slanted bullet makes for precise application
– No discernible scent or fragrance
– Staying power is ok, for me it is about 2 hours without eating
– Stylish packaging makes it a pleasure to pull out and reapply
Overall verdict: Check these out at your own peril since they are addictive. I already have my eye on a few more colors…poor wallet!

This is a beautiful product, albeit very expensive. I say that because, lipstick + case is $34.00 … It is a very skinny lipstick. On the plus side you can purchase a refill for $22.00. The refill has a cover that can be removed and replaced. The bottom of the refill can be used to twist the lipstick up and down. The lipstick itself is lovely. I find it to be very moisturizing without the spread outside of the lip line. I get fully opaque coverage with one stroke. There is no drag or skipping. I do not detect a fragrance or taste. This is not a long wear lipstick but I get about 4 hours as long as I don’t eat or drink. The shades range from nudes to deep reds. Truly something for everyone.

Usually I would wait longer before reviewing a new product but there’s so much buzz about the Hourglass Confession lipsticks lipsticks, I figured jumping in early would be more helpful. I ordered three of these the day they were launched (yep, I live on the wild side when it comes to lipstick buying.) Read on for my in depth thoughts so far:
CONCEPT:
These lipsticks are fundamentally about the packaging. That’s how they’ve been marketed (lots of film-noir style posing with the tubes, à la Lauren Bacall with a cigarette). The refillable packaging is a nice idea at a time when people are trying to be more eco-conscious and more mindful of waste. As a result, I will focus more on packaging throughout this review. I’ve played along with Hourglass and attached a few pictures of me/my hand posing with the tube, which is, I must admit, very gorgeous and very film noir.
REFILLABLE CONCEPT:
When you open the box, an instruction manual is wrapped around the lipstick. I’ve posted a couple pictures of it because quite frankly, it reminds me of a DIY guide for assembling IKEA furniture more than anything else.
I highlighted what I think is a rather dubious idea – namely, that you can just buy one lipstick with the applicator and switch “interchangeably” between refill tubes (thus saving money). Looking at that diagram, I’m pretty certain that’s more trouble than it’s worth.
I appreciate that I will be able to buy refills when I come to the end of a shade but I will not be switching these up regularly.
VALUE FOR MONEY:
One thing that needs to be addressed is the extraordinarily tiny amount of product you get in these lipsticks: 0.03oz. That’s pretty paltry – in comparison, a Guerlain Rouge G has a whopping 0.12oz of product. So: if you’re the type who wants bang for your buck, give these a pass.
FORMULA:
I’m happy to report that the formula of these lipsticks is excellent – as should be the case, given the price. Each shade is saturated and rich with pigment. These genuinely deliver opaque coverage in a single swipe. I bought (and have swatched – see pics above) If Only, I’ve Been and I’m Addicted, and all three shades are stunning. If Only, in particular, is a gently muted, medium-depth reddish rose that I think would be flattering on all skin tones, whether warm or cool, light, medium or dark.
With regard to the finish of these lipsticks, I would describe it as a luminous demi-matte/satin – no glossiness whatsoever but instead a jewel-like luminosity. I have rather dry lips at the moment so I prep my lips with some balm while doing my makeup, and gently blot off any excess product before applying the Hourglass lipstick. I have not been using any lip liner or primer. The effect is just…wow. It glides on SO smoothly. Basically, it feels like butter, albeit in the best possible way (not greasy, just super smooth, velvety and rich). The upside of the stingy amount of product is that the applicator is super precise – I haven’t bothered to use lip-liner with these because they deliver a crisp edge so effortlessly on their own.
As for feathering and migration, again Hourglass has really nailed this formula. I have lips that are dry and prone to patchiness, and in addition, I have bad allergies so am constantly blowing my nose, etc. These lipsticks barely transfer unless I actually rub my lips with tissue. They do leave the faintest stain on cups and mugs but it’s barely noticeable.
LONGEVITY:
I find that these hold up around five hours, just requiring a touch up after lunch. Worth mentioning is how remarkably beautifully these lipsticks fade away. Instead of crumbling, or leaving an unsightly ring of colour on the edges of your mouth, you’re left with a perfectly even, still softly-saturated stain. Reapplying is a breeze – these lipsticks really do just glide on like velvet. Because the formula doesn’t cake up or collect in fine lines and corners, there’s no need to wipe your lips clean and start afresh when reapplying.
SCENT/COMFORT:
The Confession lipsticks have a subtle vanilla scent, which shouldn’t bother most people. In comparison, the GIRL stylos have a slightly waxy smell which isn’t present here. As far as I can tell, there is no discernible taste to the Confession lipsticks either.
For such a richly saturated formula, these are surprisingly lightweight in terms of texture. I found the GIRL stylos to be a tad heavy texture wise; I’m conscious of them sitting on top of my lips. The Confession lipsticks are a far more cosmetically elegant formula. As they should be, given the price.
AESTHETICS:
As I said earlier, I believe that these lipsticks are fundamentally centred around the packaging. These are not what I’d call practical lipsticks – they’re luxuries, like the Guerlain Rouge Gs and Tom Ford’s Lip Color lipsticks. Another way of putting this is to say that the Hourglass Confession lipsticks are status symbols. Pull one of these lipsticks out of your handbag and all eyes in the vicinity will be on you (and yes, some of those eyes will be rolling). If you’re familiar with Guerlain’s Rouge Gs, then you know the deal: you’re either going to be written off as a pretentious prat OR you’re going to ignite feelings of burning envy amongst the onlookers. Basically, these lipsticks are bougie AF. Do you like feeling bougie? If not, then I’m sorry to say that the joys of this lipstick may be lost on you. BUT if you’re down with embracing your inner bougie-ness, I HIGHLY recommend these.
GRADE: A+. Just embrace your inner (bougie) poseur – I can personally vouch that doing so is a ton of fun.
*A confession: I Woke Up today and placed an order for what I Crave. I guess I’m Addicted to these lipsticks (If Only they weren’t so darn good!). Anyway, I’ve Kissed goodbye to even more money but tbh, I’ve Been so blown away by these, I think they’re worth it. Huge thumbs up!
