I love love love this eyeliner. Lasts really well on me, might smudge a bit if I’m exercising or in a serious downpour, but otherwise have no issues. Nice and black, doesn’t flake off like the other waterproof Essence liquid liners. The best part is that the felt tip gives me a perfect thin line every single day; I find most liquid liner applicators too thick and I’m not a fan of big, thick winged liner, so this is perfect for me to get a thin simple line.
The only major issue I have is the OUTSIDE of the packaging. The foil branding on the outside starts to flake off after a while, and these tiny little pieces of shiny film get stuck to everything – hands, face, other things in my makeup bag. For some reason, once they’re stuck to something they are IMPOSSIBLE to remove, I have to scrap them off my face with my nails numerous times before they come off.
So, I usually end up binning the liner when this starts happening, and buying a new one, which is irritating as the product inside is still half full and perfectly fine. If it wasn’t so cheap, I wouldn’t repurchase. So if Essence just sorted out the outer packaging, this eyeliner would be my ultimate favourite.

I read positive reviews for this and i’m always looking for an easy to use black eyeliner, but this doesn’t do it. I got a nice black line, it was easy to use but then it smudges the rest of the day into my eyelid. it simply doesn’t want to stay on my eyelid.

I bought this because it seemed like it had the best reviews out of all the Essence eyeliners. When it actually works, it’s great, but I find that more often than not the tip is dry and I can’t get any product out… then randomly I’ll get all the product in the world and it’s awesome, but it’s such a roller coaster ride with this eyeliner! Maybe I got one with crappy packaging, but I just don’t think it’s worth it for me to purchase it again. The formula itself actually seems pretty good, but I just don’t want to struggle with trying to make a product work.
Edit: I just watched a video about Essence products on YT from Sarah Therese, and she recommended storing the eyeliners upside-down to get the pigment to come out consistently. Because it’s so cheap, I think I’ll give it another try to see if that trick works for me, then I’ll post another update.

Out of all of the eyeliners I’ve used, this has to be my favorite. It’s super black and has a precise tip, making application easy. It doesn’t run on the eyes and won’t come off until the end of the day. The best part is that it’s only $2.99! Essence has some great products, and this is definitely one of them.

It is a decent eyeliner, but I don’t love it. I find it very hard to make a nice smooth line with it, don’t really like the applicator tip. It’s too big, and distributes the product weirdly, or maybe it’s just me.
It is definitely waterproof to the point where it is REALLY hard to remove. Decent intense black color.
Very good for a drugstore liner and for the price, but I won’t repurchase, prefer something easier to use and remove.

Definitely not the best eyeliner in the market but for drugstore and everyday looks it lasts quite well. I never actually wear waterproof makeup in water but for every day this liner isn’t bad at all especially considering the price. I have quite oily lids but it wore pretty good throughout the day and application wasn’t too difficult either.

I saw a magazine article about this and found it at Ulta for about $2 and it works better or at least as good as very expensive eyeliners and it stays on well and doesn’t smudge. I really love this and it is a great deal.
thrilledVenison3
By far the worst eyeliner pen I’ve ever used, smudged everywhere
resolvedHeron6
It is absolutely not waterproof. It smudges badly and transfers to my hands if I touch my eyes. It is easy to apply and has a great colour deposit but I’ll be tossing it out as I need waterproof and my regular liner is less trouble than this
joyfulHyena5
Cheap crap. Waste of $7. Suppose to be brown and is completely black..
solemnCoconut2
I tried this in black. The ease of this eyeliner is good, especially if you are new to the liquid eyeliner game. Color was pretty deep. But once it dried the color was flat and super unflattering.
gloomyRhino4
I deem this product adequate for labeling cardboard boxes and non porous surfaces.
Sharpie makes a similar product.
Not waterproof, not opaque. Plastic feels cheap and overall crap.

YAAASSS, E.L.F. COMES IN CLUTCH. Just last month I went through a eyeliner quest just to find the “one” (I was really just tired of my holy grail eyeliner [Milani Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Everlast] only to *spoiler alert* ultimately realize that what I have at home is much better than the other eyeliners but this ELF eyeliner comes to a really close second and I am so amazed!!)
I was looking through my local target trying to decide which waterproof eyeliner I should try. I have super oily eyelids (not deep fried oily) but I definitely have to prime before I apply most eyeliners that claim to be “waterproof, all day wear, 12 hr wear or smudge proof” because most brands with these claims just don’t cut it for me (Garnier, Covergirl, Maybelline..) and trust me it has been a loooong quest to find an eyeliner that does not rub onto the upper part of my eyelids, making me look like a poorly drawn racoon by one hour passing. So right before I give up after crouching through every brand in the make-up section, my eyes dilate when I realize ELF has come out with this WATERPROOF eyeliner, I am so excited that part of me wants to scream. In the past, I have tried ELF’s regular liquid eyeliner which would slowly flake off throughout the day but I had noooo hesitation to give this a try for the price of $2-3. So I definitely buy this product but before I put it to the test, I made sure that I didn’t have any important plans for that day just in case this eyeliner decided to disappear on me halfway throughout the day. And to be frank, I doubted ELF way quickly than I should’ve, this eyeliner is magical for my oily eyelids.
I don’t have any criticism for the packaging of this eyeliner, it is quite generic and keeps the eyeliner tip intact. The plastic packaging does advise that you store the tip facing downwards to maintain its performance. The product hasn’t dried out on me since the month that I have had it but I did switch something up. With my fingers, I pinched the eyeliner brush tip and extended it out a bit (just enough that it still closes back up with the cap on), I find this gives me the best access and easier navigation to create a *perfect* line. Use my trick if you’d like but with just this alteration, I am totally in love with this eyeliner pen!
Although I don’t rank this as my #1 holy grail because it does wipe away if I rub hard enough (but it DOESN’T transfer willingly on its own), it is my #2 and for the price, I am thoroughly happy and would buy this again and again! I love the price and the quality, it’s totally a win-win!!
*p.s. I bought the ELF waterproof eyeliner with an all-white exterior not black if it makes a difference*
vengefulTomatoe9
First, this picture is wrong, All of the ELF waterproof liners that I’ve bought are in white packaging.
That aside this liner is dirt cheap & worth ten times it’s price tag! It goes on smoothly, & stays put all day long. The black is highly pigmented & I love the fine to thick felt tip applicator. At the end of the day, it comes off cleanly with my neutrogena makeup remover wipes.
My one criticism is that the cap tends to want to pop off of new eyeliners so if you don’t make certain the cap is on properly, your eyeliner will dry out. At $2 though, that’s hardly a tragedy. I always keep an extra ELF liner in reserve just in case.

It smudges and the most annoying thing is that it flakes and falls out like crust if you wipe your eyes 🙁 it does not have a deep rich colour when it goes on the eyes…though it seems kinda full when it is swiped on my arm…though…overall, it’s kinda wasteful…don’t buy it…:/ I should not have impulsively purchase this…the only good thing I can say is that the eyeliner tip is really precise and nice…I love that the most…just the content and staying power…kinda weak…:/ don’t say it’s waterproof if you can show proof 🙁
excludedRaisins2
This product was supposed to be smudge proof, waterproof, and very black. It wasn’t that well pigmented, and it it came off really easily. I don’t even know what to say. I think that a sharpie might work better. By the way, it refused to stay on my waterline. I might sound like a raging psychopath, but this is my advice for eyeliner starters- don’t buy this.

Guys listen… I was just in my regular beauty supply shop that I buy my makeup in and I have faced the “should I buy a pricier brand because more money might mean better quality” dilemma but GURL. SHTAP. This liner is all you need! It’s so so good honestly I see it with any other brand out there value wise, this baby lasted me like a year and I love my liner, it’s dark, it’s long lasting and it doesn’t dry out (although you should always keep the cap on it!) love this one. Affordable and good. YOU SHOULD GET IT!
grudgingStork4
Similar to Kat von D’s Tattoo Liner and Nyx Epic Ink, but frankly I think this is a little darker. If you like that type of liner, this is worth a try, as it’s dirt cheap, easily available at Ulta, and cruelty free.

While the skinny tip of this and waterproof claims intrigued me, i was upset to learn that neither deliver.
I found that when i would try to go over a part of my eyeliner, i would have to let it dry for about a minute first or it would literally remove the product where i was drawing. The tip was awesome and sharp for my first eye but for my second eye it had already dried out and was giving me dull, thick lines.
For the waterproof claim, that is absolute, utter bullshit. There is nowhere on this earth that this would be considered waterproof. I have watery eyes that normally destroy my eyeliner throughout the day, to the point that the notorious Stila Stay All Day can’t even take it. I was really hoping that this product would be truly waterproof because the extremely low price… if only. The second I left Ulta with it, i swatched it on my hand and let it dry. I then got spit on my finger and ran it over it. It immediately smudged. Immediately. I figured I must not have let it dry long enough so I swatched it again and left it alone for 15 minutes. I tried the spit thing again with the same exact results.
At only about 3 bucks, this eyeliner is worth a try, but don’t expect much. It was a huge letdown for me.

Oh my goodness – this thing is terrible. I thought I’d try to save a few dollars by getting a cheap pen and I got what I paid for.
First things first – it’s impossible to get a fine line with this pen. I’ve tried and tried and the line is always too thick.
Second, waterproof? No. I can easily remove this with just water.
Third, the black is not a deep, jet black like other liners. It’s a light black.
Not worth the three bucks I spent on it.
chicMagpie1
Great eyeliner at a great price. They’ve redone the packaging a bit since I last used this but it still works great. I have eyelids that tend to get oily throughout the day and eyeliner usually ends up somewhere beneath my brow bone where it doesn’t belong. This eyeliner is truly water- (and oil-) proof – looks just as great at 5:00PM as it does at 8:00AM!
pleasedCur5
The ink is very pigmented and dries in like 5 secs. It really is waterproof and just doesn’t come off without a makeup wipe. The only reason I gave this product 4 stars is that it came with a split tip and that didnt create a sharp line. I might have gotten a defected piece.
