Here’s a perfect example of a soft floral fragrance that is more interesting than many others in it’s category.
I’m going by an original formulation bottle.
There’s plenty out there and I can’t speak to the newer version yet but imagine it’s pretty good too.
It’s not an aquatic or marine type but rather, it feels like it.
From BN:
Launched in 1995, created by Alberto Morillas
Top notes: Violet, peach, lemon, pineapple
Middle: Jasmine, hyacinth, muget
Base notes: Styrax, amber, sandalwood, musk
Here’s some imagery for ya’.
Imagine that you are in the hottest sweltering heat of summer, like oppressive 95 degree temps where the heat radiates in ripples upward from the pavement and then this mirage appears before you.
You walk to it and it’s a doorway to another dimension.
It’s probably more like a archway covered in green vines and sweet peas (stick with me here we’re going somewhere nice!)
Once you’ve passed the threshold before you is a soft sun-dappled, misty rain forest canopy with ponds of water lilies and moss covered boulders.
The temperature has dropped about 20 degrees and a sense of calm coolness pervades everything.
That’s what Acqua di Gio does for me. It’s a cooling tonic and has it’s place in every fragrance lover’s collection.
Where ever you go on summer outings you’ll smell like that one refreshing breeze that wafts through the clouds of fruitchouli.
This is a scent for the hottest days of summer, to wear to work or any occasion where you don’t want to “be the woman with the loud obnoxious perfume.”
We’ve all heard the conversations about the person with “the perfume cloud” or worse, been the subject of such conversation.
The man in my house describes it as “they must use that trigger sprayer bottle to put on cologne.”
Men and children speak in very basic ways that are easy to understand! LOL!
Armani Acqua di Gio is graceful and actually morphs into an elegant classy scent. You’ll be the one who just smells fresh out of the shower and your personality will take front row instead of your perfume.
Just get it already!

I used to wear this in my 20 (before I became a perfume addict). I was planning on picking it up for casual days around the house bc I do love fresh smelling frags only to find that the CHEAPEST I could find a bottle even on ebay was 50 but most were going in the 80 range. For an older perfume that was selling on ebay for 20 a couple years ago? No thank you. I bought the newer version and that is going to have to suffice. I do recall liking the older one a little more. It smelled more masculine, which I love.
The problem with my perfume addiction is that i live in a valley of a mountain in the middle of WV so EVERYTHING is a blind buy. As a result I own about 75 designer perfumes, still to find that I only LOVE vintage poison. Why is nothing ever any better than vintage Poison to me? What comes to mind is the strong plum note. Yum.
Anyway, this one is not dissimilar enough to the new one to pay the prices they’re asking online. I was going to get it and I even made a 50 offer for a bottle on ebay but they declined. Now that I bought a Chloe perfume instead, I see that they reduced their price to 50. Oh well. Too late now and I will like the Chloe better for sure. I am going to skip this one bc it does not have enough personality and you can get the same effect at a lower cost with the newer version. Ladies are selling their “used couple time” bottles for next to nothing.

Does anybody know where I can buy the original acqua di gio from in the UK, the one in the green bottle that was around in the 90s?
I love this perfume and is very hard to find !
Many thanks

When I smell this fragrance, I’m immediately hit by a lovely floral scent of lilies. It’s sweet, floral, and fresh all at once. In my experience, the staying power is tremendously impressive! One spritz on my wrist is all I need for all-day wear. I’m a person why typically shies away from floral perfumes. However, I absolutely can’t get enough of this one! Men seem to love it, too!

I am on the fence. I like this perfume, it’s not super heavy, it’s young but classic, not majorly sweet or floral. Reminds me of the typical scents I am drawn to. I am absolutely terrible about describing fragrances or understanding top notes and silage, but to me this seems to be somewhat in the same vein as D&G Light Blue. I find it appropriate for work or casual wear and don’t think it is overpowering. It does fade by the end of a 9 hour workday, but most of my perfumes do.
I got this as a sample so it’s been nice to try wearing it for the last few weeks. Bottom line, I may pick it up but it’s not something that I’m super excited about.

Only 3 lippies because Armani isn’t cruelty-free.
The perfume itself I LOVE.
One of the very few flowery perfumes that I like, I feel, because this one really smells like real flowers, not made up fake flowers. Feminine.
The blurry glass starts to kind of look worn off after a while. But again, the perfume itself is just heaven.

smells light, fresh, feminine & clean. however, it’s either not as strong as I’d like or it fades quickly.

I got ripped off on a swap with this once. Anyway, this is such a great perfume, fresh flowers and fruits. I remember lots of lily of the valley with juicy melons, and it didn’t remind me of nasty chemicals. I like the new release they have much better though.

Another floral fruity fragrance I do like, which is rare. This smells very watery to me, like something out of a stocked floral area near a lake. It comes off on me as very floral but with green notes.
The top notes are peony, pineapple, musk vodka, peaches, lemon, banana leaf, and violets. I smell the peony and vodka right off the bat. The violet as well but it comes out after about 10 minutes on me. The middle notes are lily, freesia, jasmine, hyacinth, ylang-ylang, rose, lily-of-the-valley, and calone (which is a synthetic note to mimic melons). Base notes are sandalwood, amber, musk, cedar, and styrax (which are a woody resin).

The name, Acqua di Gioia, is Italian for “Water of Joy”.. so cute! I would describe the scent and fresh, aquatic and clean. This a complex and light scent, not like that sickly sweet crap that some celebrities are releasing.
Simply close your eyes, breathe in this delectable scent, and you feel as if you are lounging in the sun on the beautiful Italian island.
