While PM’s Matte formula is hands down my HG lip formulation, I am sad to say I was highly disappointed in the LuxeTrance formula. OK so to be fair, this isn’t a bad product at all – its just that its not all that special or unique.
Sure, this is a nice comfortable lipstick – its very opaque (one swipe coverage) and creamy, with many available shades in the range. But here’s the thing: Its not really any different than any other good cream formulation out there. I feel like one can easily get similar shades and comfort formulas for much less than $38. I was far from wow’d by this formula.

I had high hopes for this, but I was extremely disappointed. I’m NC40-42 and bought Realness and LaBejia, sight unseen (as there’s nowhere yet in the UK to test these out in person). I bought them directly from the Pat McGrath website when they had a 20% off promotion.
Realness seemed like it could have been the perfect MLBB – medium pink-mauve-brown – but was a lot greyer and cooler on me in person. LaBeija had seemed like a warm yellow-brown medium nude, but was a lot lighter on me than it seemed in pictures of it on the internet, and also slightly cooler. These are very opaque, and I think that means there is less room for error with your choice of colour – it has to match you perfectly. The formula is slightly drying and doesn’t meld with your lips – it just sits on top of them. So try and test these out in person before you buy, if you can.
The worst part about Realness is that it stains the lips badly and turns darker – I wore it to a job interview, without a lipliner and was shocked when I came back home to discover that it had turned several shades darker, and not really suitable for interview purposes!
The packaging is beautiful, and it’s not the worst formula ever, so I will use them up by applying them over lipliner only. In my opinion there are far better formulas on the market, such as Rouge d’Armani (although limited MLBB colour choice), MAC Liptensity (although again, limited MLBB colour choice), Hourglass Confession and NARS Audacious. However, as I’m a glutton for punishment and addicted to lipstick, I will probably still buy a MatteTrance lipstick to see if that lives up to the hype.

This is unlike any other lipstick I’ve owned and I hated it at first, kicking myself for spending such an obscene amount on lipstick. It is not, for a very pale person, meant to be applied full force from the tube like you can every other lipstick on the planet. In order for this to work – and work it does – on me, this needs to be applied like my granny used to: dabbed on. It’s just way too much color when applied full bore.
It literally is unlike any other lipstick I’ve used in that it has no smell, it’s almost like a smell vacuum, which is fine by me. Bad lipstick perfume (cough Bobbi Brown cough) wrecks many a glorious formula. It is as though it is literally a pigment tube, there’s so much packed in here. So even this LuxeTrance one is mighty matte lipstick. It just goes on, and it feels like the few carriers and emollients just evaporate and poof, color. It doesn’t feel dried out or uncomfortable, though for dry lip wearers I think it could. It’s like a film of rich, opaque color.
The two colors I have worn are Lavish, which is a fairly bold (even patted!) rose with a dash of brown and a lot of mauve; it doesn’t pull purple at all, and Tropicalia, […see below]. Lavish’s cousin is Bobbi Brown’s Telluride lipstick in the new, clearer formula applied deeply.
If you are a pigmented lady and wish that lipsticks had more oomph, I think this is your formula. As it is I love it.
ETA 3/16/18: Tropicalia is a very bright coral and I wonder if I meant to get Apricult or if that is the brighter one. As it is, this one goes POW on me – even dabbing. It’s great but in March my pale self isn’t really ready for colors like that. I had tried it over Lavish and that is when I loved the color. Lasts like classic lipsticks, so check your lips after a meal, but I don’t expect eight hour wear when I’m dabbing it daintily.

I’ve never experienced lipstick like this before, which dang well better be true because this is the most expensive lipstick I’ve ever bought. Purchased in Sextrology and Beautiful Creature. I will definitely repurchase Beautiful Creature. Sextrology might be a better summer color for me, it isn’t doing much for my winter skin. I’ll try it if my part of the world ever thaws.
Pros:
-Gorgeous. Beautiful Creature applies perfectly (dark color but no lip liner needed) and looks amazing. Worth the price for how awesome it looks. Seriously, apply this and gape at the gorgeousness.
-Smells like air. Like straight-up nothing. I prefer this to even the lovely scent of a MAC lipstick. Good for migraine sufferers.
-The tube feels weighty and expensive.
-The packaging it came in, holy cow. I keep the packaging and use it as a lipstick carrier. Solid, useful packaging. Is anybody else doing that? Serious question. If you know of other companies that do this, message me, because I will check them out.
-no bleeding or feathering, but I never experience bleeding or feathering with lipstick.
-Not just a lipstick, it is an experience. Don’t know how else to explain it.
Cons:
-Wicked Expensive (but worth it)
-Doesn’t stain so it wears poorly, also needs to be reapplied a lot (one lipstick off for that)
-The lips are cheesy (but I don’t care)

This is hands down the best lipstick I’ve ever worn. I’ve never been more impressed with a lipstick! It’s so pigmented and comfortable and I swear it’s hydrating. It lasts for hours before my lips get dry & it’s still there when they do! Right now I only have Madame Greige, it’s the most beautiful mauve ever.
It’s been compared to Bite’s Cava but Cava is much lighter & more drying. I have backups of Madame Greige on my list. The only negative is the price point. $38 for a lipstick bullet is pricey. Try to catch it on a sale but it’s worth it if you can’t.
* also, the shades appear WAYYYY darker on Sephora’s site than they are irl. Pat ships fast from her site so if you aren’t committed to your points or trying to make rouge, it’s worth ordering from her site when she has sales.

Sadly, disappointed in this extremely pricey product. I ordered Natural Unnatural as an absurdly expensive birthday present thinking it was the perfect shade (it is, initially) and that it would last all day.
Nope!
When first applied, the shade is a magnificent brown-red with slightly plummy undertones that looks fabulous with my dark hair and super pale skin. It looks smooth at first, but quickly looks dry and stains red in dryer areas. So in an hour, I had intense orangey red patches in the middle of my lips, but none on the outside and the inner portion. I just can’t make this work.
For the price, I expected way better. The lipliner is absolutely bizarre and collects in pigment clumps. With or without primer, it just doesn’t apply. Maybe I have a bad batch? I’ll return to my favourite Pixi lipliner at a fraction of the cost.

I bought two of these based on hype- Realness and Madame Greige. I like the colors, and I like the formula, but the hype is lost on me. It’s just lipstick. My favorite lipstick formula right now is the Hourglass Confession lipstick formula, which is an awful shame because for the amount of product you get in the tube, it’s robbery. Had these LuxeTrance lipsticks compared in formula, I would buy way too many of them! Madame Greige is actually going back to Sephora because on my lips, it’s nearly identical to Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipstick in Thistle, a formula I highly prefer. I’d call the LuxeTrance lipsticks a satin to demi-matte finish, more matte than I was expecting, honestly, though I’ve yet to try the MatteTrance formula to compare. Realness is a keeper for me, based on color alone. It’s a gorgeous MLBB type shade. Warmer than my favorite MLBB, Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk, it’s not quite a rosewood shade, it’s lighter and less red, it’s actually a pink brown shade that I don’t currently have a dupe for, which is funny considering that’s the largest chunk of my 400+ lipstick collection. I haven’t decided if I want to try more of the McGrath lipsticks or not. I know I’m uninterested in more from the Luxetrance line unless a color just knocks my socks off. Maybe once the MatteTrance colors are back in stock, I’ll pick one up to compare and I’ll understand the hype THEN. But for now, my preferences on formula still go to Charlotte Tilbury, Hourglass Confession, Estee Lauder Pure Envy Sculpting, Bite Amuse Bouche, MAC Satin (and some of their mattes- not Retro matte, though!) and Urban Decay Vice.
