I’ll start off with the negatives. The packaging is obnoxiously bulky, difficult to open and put away, it takes up a good chunk of space on my shelf and the cheesy pop-up throne does not stay up by itself so if you wanted to display it then you’re going to have to prop it up. The shadows slide out of a drawer on the bottom, and they do not come with a separate cover so you can’t just easily store them apart from the massive packaging because they’ll dry out. And as an FYI there are only three true mattes in here, however, some of the satins (Like Weirwood Leaves) look nice is the crease. The transformer shades are a little chunky as well.
Now for the positives! I love that the color stories are split into four sections, so it’s easy to throw a look together. The shadows are pigmented, they blend and build extremely well, they stay on the lid nicely, the color story is interesting imo and I think it offers a good variety for creating different looks.
If they didn’t have the pop-up throne I think the faux book packaging would be more up my alley. I still love this palette and I have enjoyed using it. The formulas in here are top notch, and I think some of the best Urban Decay has released in a long time.

I knew I’d get this palette when it hit my local Sephora (fortunately, during the VIB 20% off sale) in spite of not needing it or having any logical way of explaining to myself why I was buying it and in spite of absolutely loathing the packaging as I was seeing it online. I’m not even a big fan of the series (as a long time fan of Sean Bean, I stopped watching after Ned Stark was killed off). Even with all that working against it, I knew I’d get this – maybe it’s because it’s limited edition and all that FOMO stuff but, heck, it’s not like it’s that lavish a purchase, right? (please agree with me….it’s not like I went out and bought a Tesla!)
Among the 20 eyeshadows contained in this, there were a few that really attracted me and would make this purchase almost sensible – Casterly Rock (I’ve nothing similar to it and it has quickly become one of my all time favourite eyeshadows), Winter is Here (a gorgeous, shimmery dark brown), Frozen North (the stunning shimmery teal-tinged blue that UD does so well), The Sight (rich, shimmery green) and Winterfell (a rich, shimmery bronze in its pan) all appealed to me. Sadly, Winterfell is a rough-textured, fall-out laden disappointment but the other shades are lovely. In addition, Weirwood Leaves – a reddish plum and the sort of colour that scares me – is actually beautiful and Nymeria, which looked ugly, is a wonderful subtle crease/blending out colour. I was surprised by just how good it is and how blendable and versatile, and I’ve used it pretty much every day since getting the palette 2 weeks ago. There are several other lovely shadows in this palette – Dothraki (a burnished, bronzey gold), House Targaryen (another golden shade but more peach/copper-leaning) and Stormborn (a stunning mid-toned purple). I like that there are a few colours in this palette that kind of force me out of my comfort zone, though there are also a few I doubt I’ll use, either because of gritty fallout or because they’re colours that don’t suit me. And I guess that’s what I mean about this not being the wisest of purchases from a “being sensible” standpoint, but I knew and accepted all of this from the get-go.
Packaging is dreadful – heavy, bulky and not the best design for ease of use. I realize the packaging had to pay homage to the series but honestly….it’s like the packing of 2 old palettes – UD’s BOS III/NYC palette and Too Faced’s Enchanted Glamourland – decided to have a baby that would combine the worst features of both palettes’ designs! (at least this one doesn’t have a “light up” feature!)
