This formula is supposed to impart a “lived-in look and balm-like hydration” aka a blotted lip/stain type situation. I got this free with a Birchbox subscription (it’s $29 otherwise). The shade Angel probably wouldn’t have been my 1st choice, but it’s surprisingly beautiful—a medium pinky coral, very brightening and fresh. This is honestly different from any other lipstick I’ve tried. It’s lightweight but with a definite waxy texture (I find it comfortable *enough*), medium-sheer at 1st pass but can definitely be built up, and mostly matte but not death-face matte. It claims to be moisturizing but it’s not (for me)—it even feels slightly drying while it’s on my lips, but it doesn’t leave them in bad condition. Which is emotionally confusing lol.
Since Angel is a lighter shade, I find it can sink into lines a bit in the beginning, but it settles into the blotted lip look quickly. It does last a while too! I like it more than more traditional stains because it still feels like you’re wearing something on your lips, so you don’t feel like you have to add balm or gloss on top, which eventually breaks down a stain, negating its whole purpose. It can cling to flakes etc but not to the point where I’d consider it a true fault.
I have a feeling that some shades within this line are way better than others formula-wise, so I advise trying them on first if possible! I like this formula enough to check out more shades though, especially some deeper ones for fall. I absolutely like it more than the Colourpop Blotted Lip but it’s also over $20 more lol.
The only cons for me are: price and slightly weird feeling. The pros are: claim-fulfillment, wide shade range, ease of wear, innovativeness. The blotted look it creates is really quite modern and beautiful, and if you play around you can think up some interesting, creative looks.
