I have small eyes and do not want to take up lid space for eyeliner but I do use it to emphasize my eyelashes. The very fine tip fits right in the space where the lashes come from the lid. It makes a thin line that is invisible once I put on mascara. I am not really good with liner but this pen style makes it easy The coffee shade is not harsh. It would be good at typical eyeliner prices, but at $3 it is a real find!

Given the price (about $3), I was really not expecting much but had forgotten to pack some eyeliner for a business trip and grabbed this at a local drugstore. Does an admirable job at lining, stays put until ready to remove it (even though I have a habit of rubbing my eyes). The brown is not so dark it appears black (like with some browns I have found), but it’s also not too light. I did purchase this same eyeliner in black as well and I do find the black goes on just a little bit smoother. The felt tip didn’t seem to dry out after a few months of use either like with other brands.
It would be awesome if at this price point E.L.F. rolled out a few other colors like a dark grey, navy or dark green, but I’ll be buying these again to have on hand even if they only continue to sell the dark brown and black versions.

I picked up this e.l.f. Eyeliner Pen because I wanted an eyeliner that wasn’t black. I really like this color. Its a dark dark brown – not red or coppery. I use it to line or tightline my upper lashes. It goes on easily and you can get a nice fine line or a thicker line. It works very well if you want a natural or defined look. I don’t know if you could do a dramatic look with this. Cateye isnt my thing.
The packaging says Waterproof. This pen isn’t waterproof at all. Its not even water resistant. E.l.f. should be forced to change their packaging. I know it only costs two dollars, but calling this product ‘waterproof’ is false advertising.
That said, Coffee stays nicely on my upper lashline and hasnt migrated anywhere it doesnt belong. I actually went back and bought Black.

The black one runs drier than the coffee one. I could get a centimeter or two of line done and then I’d have to drag the side along my lid, and even that wouldnt be enough so I’d have to turn it and drag again. I definitely do NOT recommend the black one for anything.

I like the consistency and the brush but I have oily lids and it stayed on okay – but definitely not waterproof.

I didn’t even set out to own this eyeliner at first. My daughter bought it at Target, then gave it to me when she realized she bought brown instead of black by mistake. I took it because I swore off black liner when I hit 40 (trust me on this) and wear mostly espresso and dark gray liners for a softer look.
Hey, another brown liner is always useful in a pinch, right?
(Note: this Waterproof Eyeliner Pen is ithe most recent $2 iteration, a white plastic pen with a “notched” felt tip. This style, right out of the gate, is IMHO an improvement on the slightly floppy pointed felt tip of the older-style pen.)
As an eyeliner it is fine, perfectly competent…doesn’t smudge, easy enough to apply, looks good. The notched felt tip is a bit tricky to navigate at first, but it does the job.
Here’s where the five stars comes in: In a rush for a meeting I couldn’t find my brow powder kit,and used this instead to fill in my eyebrows.
Jaw-dropping PERFECTION.
The Coffee color (a dark brown, just a half shade above what could be called Espresso), is perfect for my brunette brows without looking either witchy dark or orange-ish. The notched tip makes for a light hand when filling in gaps and accenting my arch, and the formula is light enough to smudge a bit on application for a natural look, yet dries to a no-budge stain that lasts all day.
When I wear this I keep looking in passing reflections, admiring my on-point brows that stay sharp until I wash my face at night.
I keep hearing these pens dry out easily, so I took a star off of packaging for that, yet for two bucks I can replace this once a week if I need to without stressing.
BB cream, brows on point, and a touch of lip gloss = five years off my age without looking or feeling made up.
I hope they never stop making this pen. I’m in love.
