This is a dense oil-based balm cleanser that is formulated after cleansers that have been popular in Asia for effective make-up removal.
It contains basically oils that are thickened and an emulsifier that will dissolve even the most stubborn water-proof make-up when water is added. It does this very effectively and gently so the skin’s fragile lipid-barrier will be left intact.
This cleanser is indeed an extremely mild and gentle yet effective product.
It is elegantly packaged (though a jar is not so practical), has a somewhat strong fragrance and a very elegant appearance.
Where La Prairie did a good job is that this balm is easy to pick-up from the jar and very easy to smooth on the skin without feeling coarse or hard (as many other Western beauty balms tend to be, like Estee Lauder Advanced Micro Cleansing Balm or Clinique Take the Day off Balm).
The product contains some active ingredients in a minuscule amount though.
Even though this cleanser feels somewhat heavy at application, after rinsing it off it leaves a light natural feel without any residue.
The skin does not feel tight and pulled (like it is often using surfactant based cleansers). The skin is perfectly free of any make-up residue too 🙂
I think it is an excellent choice in colder months or for people with sensitive and/or dry skin.
