Found a couple of 6 oz. bottles of this at Marshalls for $15 CAD and snatched them up right away even though I had never used this before. First time I used 2-3 pumps. Talk about overkill! One pump is all you really need to breakdown makeup sufficiently, thank goodness else I’d be done the bottle in a couple of weeks. This has a mild scent and feels nice on the skin. It removes all makeup including waterproof mascara easily, without any tugging on the skin and it doesn’t sting my eyes or make them cloudy like some other balm / oil cleansers / makeup removers do. I probably wouldn’t pay full price for this but if I saw it at a discount at Marshalls or Winners I’d grab it again. It is a really nice first step in my evening skin care routine to remove makeup and sunscreen. I follow up with a gentle cleanser and the rest of my skin care. I’ve never had an issue with clogged pores using this either.

An excellent and exceptionally mild cleanser that will not strip the skin for precious moisture. It will leave the skin fully cleansed and supple with no feeling of tightness or any uncomfortable feel as other surfactant based cleanser can do.
It is supposed to be applied on dry skin, massaged in and then rinsed with warm water. It will be fully removed from the skin along with make-up and dirt without leaving an oily residue.
Some people have pointed out that it is “overpriced mineral oil that you can easily get from the pharmacy”.
I would recommend doing so and see what happens when you try to remove the oil from your skin with (warm) water. It will stick and will not be removed. Make-up will be smudged and “sticking to the skin”.
While the price is high is because you pay for the technology.
This is not pure oil. It contains surfactant(s) that will aid the effective removal of the cleanser and make-up. This technology (or even invention) generates from Japan and has been used for several decades. (Just as an interesting fact, even US-based companies tried to launch some oil cleansers back in the 1990s. Unfortunately without greater success -ref. Origins Liquid Crystal from 1996.)
Why the Shiseido Cleansing Oil is the right choice for all skin types is because its hypoallergenic formula. It is also a misconception that Mineral Oil will clog pores and cause acne.
Mineral oil’s molecular weight is higher than what is necessary to penetrate the skin, which should be under 500 Dalton.
Mineral oil has no possibility to cause allergy hence it is inherently safe for people with allergy, dermatitis etc. The formula contains no preservative hence further minimizing possible allergic reactions.
The formula contains a light fragrance that is undetectable after rinsing and has no added colorant or preservative.
What I really like about this product is its lightness, even in warm, humid weather, it never feels oily and rinses completely without leaving any residue. Yet skin is completely clean and free of make-up residue and feels fresh.
Since the lipid barrier is not damaged after using it (unlike it can be the case with surfactant based cleansers), skin regains its health and looks luminous and healthy glowing.

A cleansing oil with Shiseido’s original Gentle Quick-Removing Technology. It rapidly reaches deep down into the pore to thoroughly remove dirt and makeup, with no sticky feeling. Excellent for all skin types.
My Review: I purchased the 300ml bottle at the Hudson Bay when my usual Clinique take the day-off cleansing balm was out of of stock. The price was a bit extravagant for my liking $57.00 + tax (CAD). However, after trying the product I did like how it removed my waterproof mascara and Estée Lauder DoubleWear foundation with just half a pump. My skin is oily, sensitive, and prone to breakouts but after using the product religiously before cleansing my face with a cleanser. I can actually give this product a good review because it has not clogged my pores and given me any breakouts. Also the cleansing oil dissolves the layers of makeup in my face immediately unlike the Clinique cleansing balm that needs to be rubbed in.
I believe the shiseido line we see at high end department stores (example: Barney’s, Nordstrom, Hudson Bay) is totally different from the shiseido line you see in the Asian supermarkets/drug stores.
My verdict: it is worth the splurge and I would purchase again; but the only time I would purchase this product is when there is a gift with purchase promotion or if I come across it at a duty free store while travelling.

I was excited to try PC Perfect Cleansing Oil when it first came out, and now I can say after using two bottles, it is a no-go for me. I can get past the expensive price point (50% more than Clinique TTDO Cleansing Oil) and the funky gym sock smell (similar to Clinique). I can appreciate that UNLIKE Clinique TTDO, it contains real plant oils with nourishing properties that don’t dry the skin like the Clinique can do. I can also appreciate that in a field full of cleansing oils that contain irritating ingredients like essential oils and fragrances, the PC cleansing oil is a rarity in that it contains none of those. PC cleansing oil actually has a pretty impressive ingredient profile, and performs quite well, dissolving waterproof makeup and physical sunscreen. What I can’t get past is the mystery of why the PC cleansing oil irritates my skin with regular use. So, once my stash is gone, I won’t be repurchasing. My go-tos remain Clinique TTDO Balm (perfect for travel), Silk Naturals Apricot Cleansing Oil and Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil.

Paula’s Choice Perfect Cleansing oil

This is a gentle moisturizer with out any harsh detergents . (If you’re worried about sulfate it has some but not ‘ lauryl sulfate’). It has vitamin E and grape seed extract as antioxidants, but they don’t get to do much as they’re washed down the drain.
This is recommended for all skin types. Obviously it would be best for dry skin. My skin is normal. This felt like micellar water. It felt like it already absorbed when I was rinsing my skin.
Can this take off makeup in one step? No, it removes a lot, but for heavy eyeliner, mascara or matte lipstick you will need an extra product.
The sample is 3.5 ml/0.12 fl. oz. For 0.80 cents and $25.00 for 4 fl. oz.
For those wondering this product is cruelty free and vegan.

Unfortunately it is too hard for me to get past the terrible smell. I understand that the line does not add fragrance, but the mixture of the oils stinks to high heaven. No way I could use this regularly unless they reformulate with some sort of masking fragrance. Considering how expensive this is, I would suggest using an oil from your kitchen (olive, avocado coconut or any other), just like Paula used to recommend until she cashed in on the oil removal method bandwagon.

The first thing I noticed was the unpleasant smell – to me it smelled slightly rancid or like an industrial machine oil. Application and removal of makeup was fine. However, upon rinsing, I did get slight burning in my eyes. I’m glad I tried a sample of this first because I would not purchase this full-size.

This removes most of my makeup in one pass. Some of my waterproof eyeliner remains at the base of the lash. I think if I used eye makeup remover first, I could use it as a stand alone, one step cleanser.
It’s very light and easy to spread. It washes off easily enough once emulsified with water but not instantly. I think my DHC cleansing oil can be removed faster. That said it does come off without the aid of a washcloth, and leaves the skin feeling very smooth.
This is just as good as my DHC cleansing oil and better than my Clarins cleansing oil wich irritates my eyes. I can’t say which is best because I ran out of my DHC before trying this one. All of my cleansing oils have trouble removing regular mascara and don’t fully remove eyeliner. This one didn’t do too bad with that issue, but still didnt fully remove every trace of eye makeup in one pass. I imagine it would be more effective on waterproof mascara.
I used it around the eye area and had no problems with irritation, my eyes becoming cloudy, or makeup migrating to the waterline. I’m surprised some reviewers said it burned, I did not experience any irritation and I have SUPER sensitive eyes, and I use acne medication daily that makes my skin sensitive.
I like it and would repurchase.

I have just used this for the first time tonight and really liked it – it took all my makeup off easily. I opened my eyes while using it (with it all over my eyes) and it didn’t bother me one bit – no burning sensations or anything, I was surprised at all the reviews that said it burned. Rinsed off nicely and my skin felt clean and smooth, barely needed to apply any moisturizer. I’m hoping this doesn’t cause any breakouts, will update if it does.

I used a sample, so I can’t comment on the packaging. Like others, I found this burned my eyes. I don’t typically wear a lot of make up (just mascara and blush), so I can’t comment on how it removes heavy makes up. It seemed to remove my sunscreen well. Given the cost of this product and that it burns so many people’s eyes, I can’t recommend it. There are many better oil cleansers out there.

This is a nice, light cleansing oil. I use this as a first cleanse. Spreads easily, breaks down makeup effeciently, and rinsed cleanly with the aide of a flannel. I follow up with a second cleanser so I cannot comment or residue. Decent price point. No scent. On days where my skin needs something more nourishing, I’m more likely to reach for a balm, but this is good for most days.

Dries out my skin. Which is quite the feat given the fact that it’s an “oil”. Although do take a look at the ingredients, and you will note it’s not a pure “oil” like it leads one to believe. Makes my skin feel and look worse after use. Don’t recommend.

The Paula’s Choice Perfect Cleansing Oil is a fragrance free face cleanser and makeup remover that does a great job removing makeup, oil, and impurities from your face. The directions say to use it on a dry face if you are removing makeup and use on a wet face if you are cleansing a makeup-free face. I must admit that this is one of the first oil cleansers I’ve used that actually removes every trace of makeup without leaving a filmy feeling on my face. The other nice thing is that this leaves skin feeling soft and hydrated. The other nice thing is the $25 price tag- a little goes a long way so one bottle will last you quite a while.
