This is a beautiful color, I was afraid it would wash me out, but I think it would look beautiful on anyone. Unique with the same wonderful Besame formula. In doubt? Get it!

I have had such mixed luck with Besame lipsticks, but I really appreciate that it’s woman-owned and so inclusive, so I keep going back (Red Velvet, Wild Orchid and Dusty Mauve were massive misses).
The Besame formula is so unpleasant for me at first swipe, but this one especially. It goes on like a drying cling film. And I know it’s supposed to evoke Audrey Hepburn circa 1965, but its first swipe is radioactive peach. But it tones down to be a bright but pleasant peach, definitely bright though, and it definitely becomes comfortable. Yes, I’d re-buy this. It’s so delightfully unlike anything else I have.

Lovely color just released by Besame to replicate those worn in the 1960’s. The formula is creamy but not overly slippery to where it bleeds. Staying power was decent and I ate with it on with minimal transfer and no spreading of the color. On me it comes out a true neutral peach – not overly pink or orange. It’s one of the rare lipsticks where I actually have had people comment “Hey what is that? It looks really good on you!” The case is pretty too, gold metal with red writing and seems sturdy enough. At $22 USD it’s comparable in price to other lipsticks on the market while being closer in quality to designer lipstick than an indie brand. I own several lipsticks from this brand and I would encourage anyone interested in vintage looks to give them a try.

Besame Cosmetics lured me to their retro line with 1965 Portrait Peach, which was inspired by Audrey Hepburn. She frequently wore a pastel lip with dramatic eye makeup. The finish is matte, but it’s comfortable – not too drying. (It looks great with Charlotte Tilbury’s Portobello Girl Lip Lustre dabbed lightly over it, if matte is not your favorite finish.) Portrait Peach has a very faint but sweet vanilla scent that reminds me of a dessert. The fragrance is not strong and there is no flavor to the lipstick, but the tapered precision tip makes application easy as pie. Coverage is opaque. It wears well with no feathering around the edges. Portrait Peach survives a cappuccino better than most lipsticks, but I have to reapply after lunch.
I’m fond of this pastel shade but it’s definitely in the orange family, so if you’re not a fan of peachy or tangerine lipsticks, please explore Besame’s specialty: reproducing classic reds. If you want the glamorous sort of pout worn by the screen sirens of yesteryear, Besame has a crimson or scarlet for you. I hope they will expand the range to include more pinks and nudes, because currently they only have a few of those. But the reds are stunning.
The gold case is quaint yet somehow chic. It would look right at home in a formal beaded clutch. The size of the bullet looks modest. On the box it says it is 3.4 grams, but if you swivel it all the way up, it appears significantly smaller than the 3.5 gram bullet of a Matte Revolution from Charlotte Tilbury. However, Besame is cheaper. Portrait Peach costs $22 compared to the $34 you’d pay for Tilbury’s Sexy Sienna.
I love hummingbirds, so I also sprang for the cute vinyl “Spring Bird Bag” that was offered for $10 with the purchase of Portrait Peach lipstick. It measures 8.5″ wide x 5″ tall x 4″ deep. Shipping was fast. My packaged arrived within 48 hours of ordering.
The name “Besame” is Spanish. It means, “Kiss me.”
