After being suggested to try this product, I found that it did exactly what charcoal does, which is to draw impurities from pores. Normally, I don’t usually use charcoal as I don’t like how to brings dirt and impurities to the surface resulting in pimples. However, using this cleanser on a regular basis I found my skin feeling cleaner.

I found this soap just a little too harsh, even on my very oily, prone to acne skin. After using this, my skin always felt a little tingly almost, a little wrung out.
I suppose it controlled my acne, it didn’t break me out but I don’t feel like it improved it very much either. The scent is mild. Like most Lush soaps I’ve used, this didn’t really lather very richly, which means you end up using more soap and it finishes quite quickly for it size. I used the whole soap and my skin didn’t come out worse for wear, but I won’t be repurchasing this soap. I would definitely not recommend this for sensitive skin.

Oily-combo and acne prone skin. Used this as a second cleanser, took away that “oil” film nicely but really stripped my skin. I thought it felt nice and clean until I tried something more “gentle” (neutrogena ultra gentle daily) and my skin felt so nourished and normal. my skin wasnt so parched for moisturizers! remember, your skin shouldn’t be feeling so tight after you wash your face.

Honesty this is the best face soap I’ve ever used on my skin. My face gets only, and I do get a few spots here and there. I use the coal face soap in the morning and at night. It keeps the oil on my face controlled and it actually helps reduce my spots! I love this stuff and will definitely be repurchasing since it does wonders to my skin. I do recommend this to oily/acne prone skin.

I never leave reviews. But Lush’s Coalface deserves to be praised. I suffer from oily, acne prone skin. I get bad cystic, hormonal acne as well. I’m 32 years old and it is an ongoing battle. *sigh!* I’ve literally tried everything. A few years ago, I even tried some other Lush products and they didn’t work so I won’t mention them here. However, I decided to recently try to go more natural with my skin care and Coalface has played a big part in clearing up my spots!! Within less than a week of using this soap, my acne started to diminish. It doesn’t overdry and I use it am and pm (and I use Lush’s Dark Angels about once a week in the pm) I follow up with Witch Hazel on a cotton pad am and pm and then Lush’s Greased Lightening if I do get a new pimple and then for moisturizer, Lush’s enzymion!! This combo has helped my face so much!! I will be repurchasing Coalface the second I run out of it because I honestly don’t think my face can live without it. If you have oily/combo/blemished skin, I could not recommend this product enough!!!

When my skin is misbehaving I always turn to Coal Face to get it back to normal. I use Coal Face when my skin is breaking out. It cleans out my pores and reduces my acne and also helps counteract any oiliness I may have. A smal bar lasts forever! I simply wet my face, rub the bar over my face and the gently massage into a lather with my fingers before rinsing it off. It does not dry out my skin or irritate it. It has helped my skin improve and my spots have disappeared! I break out less often when I use this product too. I have combination skin and really enjoy the benefits of this product. I would recommend to anyone getting a breakout – whether it is horrible acne or just a few pimples. Coal Face will definitely help!

Do not recommend! As i am a new to lush I asked the sales lady what facial cleanser would she recomend for oily and acne prone skin and she introduced me this. I heard charcoal n immediately assume it will be all good as charcoal products are widely used in east asia for their ability to absorb junk and kill bacterial. I now wished i had asked for a sample before i bought a full sized bar. One week of using this, my skin is breaking out even more. Before coalface, i was using mask of magnaminty and my chin acne was getting better and redness was less but now my cheeks has gotten painful cluster of pimples, even my forehead which rarely get pimples are gettimg them too. So i decided to read the ingredients and am shock to see coconut oil and sodium laurath sulfate which are 2 no no for oily acne skin! I should have tried dark angels, herbalism or angels on bare skin instead. This taught me a lesson to always read ingredients throughly before buying anything for my face ????I trusted lush to know more!

I had been looking for a good facial cleanser that kept my age in mind. (I’m not the noxema girl anymore if you know what I mean.) I was already an avid fan of LUSH, and the coal face only reinforced that. since using the product my skin tone is more even, brighter, and I no longer have any breakouts. It is a coal soap so it doesn’t lather In the traditional sense, so I recommend a facial cleansing brush if you don’t already have one. LUSH is also an amazing company because thee are a more natural and environmentally kind brand. This means no harsh sulfates in the soaps! YAAY!! LUSH has done it again, Coal Face is a great facial cleanser, and may even help those of you who may have troubled skin on the body (i.e back) as the soap is sold by the lb. and can be used for the body as well.

I have very sensitive and oily skin, this cleanser made me breakout more and it was too harsh for my skin. I couldn’t continue using it.

At first I was skeptical about trying the soap because I’ve been a loyal Clarins customer for my skin care since I turned thirty, but because I have fallen in love with most everything else LUSH sells, I decided to give it a try, and like everything else they sale, I’m hooked. My skin has never been so clear or bright with just one skin care step. The bar is odorless, so its good for people who are sensitive to scents. The soap doesn’t really lather, so I find it helps when I apply it directly to my face, then cleansing with a facial cleansing brush. I will be buying this soap until they no longer make it. (hope that never happens!! Thinking about taking a stroll down to LUSH now for an impromptu shopping trip…one of the perks of living next to union square!
