The BEST of all purple shampoos! I dyed my naturally-black, Asian hair dirty blonde and then transitioned to platinum, and this shampoo aboslutely saved me from looking like a stack of hay.
PROS:
– not expensive IF you buy it on Amazon at the appropriate time. Every now and then the price *sinks*, and I got the 1000mL bottle for $17…and its huge! Even though I have super long hair and use the shampoo all over, it’s lasted me at least 4.5 months (as of the time of this writing I still have at least 2/3 of it left)
– it’s super concentrated. A little goes a very long way and it lathers a lot even though its texture is a little on the thin side.
– the effects are pretty long lasting. The toning lasts at least a week and I use it once a week, maybe twice if it’s humid out
– unlike other purple shampoos that deposit hair color, I feel like this one acts almost like a toner. When I compare my unwashed blonde hair with my hair after this shampoo, the “after” hair looks a little lighter!
– especially ideal for people who want to maintain a purple or gray hair color. If you choose to leave the conditioner in a little longer, it’ll give your hair a cool lavender tinge (only on hair colors levels ~9+).
CONS:
– stains hands and nails. It works that well! I personally don’t mind, to be honest.
– the smell is kinda chemical-y but is not overpowering.
– a little difficult to get all over your hair evenly, but that’s just the dilemma of having long hair!
– dries out hair due to its very strong, toning nature. This shouldn’t be a problem if you use conditioner.
All in all, this is a fantastic product that has wonderful value for its price! All of the aforementioned cons are very minor ones, and I got lucky with Amazon’s promotion. To get the best deal and know how much you should be paying for, do not buy this for more than $25 USD.

I transitioned my hair to grey with some bleaching. Keeping this on my hair for 5 minutes got all the yellow out. My hair is now silvery blue and I get lots of compliments on the color. It has a strong floral smell which I don’t mind.

ONLY use this shampoo if you want straight up ash tones. No warmth will be left behind. It turned my brass to silvery hues within minutes. I would say this is even more pigmented than Blond Brilliance’s Lathering Toner…and that’s saying a lot. If you bleach your hair and want a ashy platinum – you can skip traditional toner and just use this. It’s cost effective and less damaging. This shampoo does not lather much so it will not strip your hair. If you need extra cleansing, use a traditional shampoo in addition. I like that it doesn’t clarify much as I have bleached/damaged/dry hair.
Now with all that being said, your hair has to be an even shade of yellow before using this. Otherwise you will end up with patchy tones of ash. Fanola No Yellow shampoo is darker than a lot of the purple shampoos on the market. This is violet toned with a fair amount of blue however it’s definitely still violet. If your hair is straight up orange – seek out a blue toner/shampoo or simply lighten your hair to a yellow hue. Another note – this shampoo can stain your hands, your tub, and your scalp. So be careful with the application.

I ADORE this stuff! It seriously works better than any other purple shampoo I’ve ever used (even the ones I’ve bought at the salon). If you leave it in your hair for 5-10 minutes it strips out basically all the brassy tones and it’s incredible. You just need to make sure to apply it evenly across your hair which can be a bit difficult but once you get the hang of it you’re good to go.
It stains the skin a little so you’ll need to thoroughly wash your hands after use. It makes my hair a little dry so whenever I use this, I put on a deep conditioning hair mask to help nourish my hair.
It smells alright – not horrible but also not amazing so no real complaints there. Would definitely recommend!!

I have been bleaching/highlighting my hair for the past 30 years or so. I always thought that the yellowing of the highlight was perfectly normal and never have it much thought. Last year, my colorist helped me decide on a more natural look and my highlights were much less intense, but far more yellow (which made my face, in contrast, look more red.) I hated it and started an expensive quest to tone my hair to an ashier level. I finally stumbled upon Fanola after watching hours of youtube. It worked quickly and perfectly and became a staple in my hair care routine. BUT…the reason I am writing this review is because of how I am using this shampoo now. I have decided to let my natural hair (dark, cool blonde) grow out to see how much gray I have. As I have coarse, frizzy, bleached hair, the demarcation line between natural and bleached hair is pretty horrific. I decided to try Fanola a little differently. I put it on DRY (important!) hair, really worked it into the strands, and put a cap on it. I left it on for approximately 3.5, almost 4 hours and WOW!! I have the most incredible smokey, lavender gray hair. My husband, a man of few words, has told me repeatedly how much he likes my hair color. It looks incredibly modern, sleek and brings out my green eyes. It’s not an “in your face” purple, just strands which shimmer a bit purply. The ashy smokiness of the blonde is beautiful and I feel like a genius for coming up with this super simple solution! Fanola is so inexpensive and easy to find online. This little trick will make growing out my highlights a whole lot easier and prettier!

This is the best for toning down brassiness. I left it on for 10 minutes and noticed an immediate difference … by removing the yellow (I dye with Nutrisse 101) my hair appeared lighter. The tone is beautiful and led me to 5 star review on that alone. However to reiterate ALL the other reviewers:
-Yes, it is drying. I used Nexxus Humectress and a leave in and had no dryness but my hair is resilient. Use either caution if yours is fragile / brittle
-It WILL stain. I washed my hands immediately after application and avoided staining the first two times. This time I piled more on for more toning and my nails are purple. Oh well.
Despite these issues, I am still totally in love with this product and going to try to the mask and no orange line as well.

I’m going to begin a series of reviews on products to enhance cool, platinum tones in blonde hair. Most of these products will be anti-brass. I am trying EVERYTHING. My hair is fine, wavy, blown out every other day, and colored using a 7a base with extensive blonde fills to a 10a highlighted effect. As anyone reading this knows, that great ashy tone is tough to hang onto, so in between salon appointments, I turn to color enhancing toners. I’m after deposit only, temporary toning. This will not cover the Wella toners; they’re actually color, and my hair stylist has forbidden me to touch that anymore. I’m after things that make the hair shiny, don’t weigh it down, and don’t give dull, charcoal tones. So, here we go……
The reviewers below have pretty well covered it….to reiterate, yes, it works, it will stain to lavender if left on for more than 60-120 seconds, and it will stain your hands and cuticles far more than Fudge.
It’s worth noting that this line has a blue ‘no orange’ shampoo which I also use-it’s nice to mix the two if you have multidimensional color. Both are available on Amazon, pretty big bottles, for about sixteen bucks each.
The consistency is gel-like, thin and runny. It was, to me, very drying. I finished up with L’Oréal Damage Erase 5 minute conditioning, and was still pretty straw-like. For that reason, I won’t repurchase, but this will be great for someone with less dry, stronger hair.

This is by far the most pigmented purple shampoo I’ve ever used. I was able to remove about 6 weeks worth of really gross hard water brassy tone in one wash!
The consistency is pretty creamy, VERY dark purple almost black in colour. Lathers better than most high pigmented shampoos. I left it on for 3-4 min the first time and it did the trick! It has a floral kind of scent, which isn’t a bad thing personally.
After using other brands such as AG, Joico, Shimmer Lights, Redken, KMS (probably more that I can’t think of right now) – Fanola blows them out of the water.
Helpful tips: Wear gloves if you plan on a decent lather or applying it in sections – more then likely it will stain your hands, it will come out after a few washes though.
Use a hydrating conditioner after as it can be a little drying (but I’ve never used an effective purple shampoo that wasn’t)
Will definitely repurchase but likely won’t be for awhile as you get so much product for a reasonable price!

This is the strongest purple shampoo i’ve ever tried for toning hair. Its twice the pigment of shimmer lights and fudge. It turns my blonde hair completely white and doesnt dry it out the way other silver shampoos do however I still deep condition afterwards. There are a few things to be careful of with this though, wear gloves or your hands and cuticles will turn blue/purple. If you leave it on too long your hair will turn grey/lilac/purple. I have had this happen after just 4 minutes so i now only leave it on for 1 minute. It doesnt take as well on the root section of my hair even though that part is also bleached so on occasion I just put it on the roots. Price is brilliant for the bottle size and there is also a no orange shampoo that is for toning out orange in the hair however I have not used this as my hair is already a level 10 blonde. Some people say they hate the smell of this shampoo and cant use it because of that so bare that in mind. I actually love it but then again I also love all the old perfumes from years ago and this reminds me of them. Really strong old lady perfume lol. But i’d bare any smell to keep the yellow out of my hair. I’d suggest doing a strand test too just incase you end up with purple or grey hair.
