High hopes for the Kenra Moisturizing Shampoo dashed due to the smell and hard tangled hair after use.
The smell is like Blue Magic – the old school pomade (hair grease).. so it’s like shampooing w liquified hair grease
The bottle shape isn’t shower friendly and you have to squeeze to get the product out
Left my hair awfully tangled.. so I followed up w lots of their spunky smelling Balancing Conditioner (which I’ll review separately)
No. Just No on this. Regret not returning it to Ulta for a refund.

I have tried the Liquid Blow-Dry & Color Care shampoo from Kenra both of which left my hair straw like. Still wanting to find a Kenra shampoo that worked for me I purchased this thinking that it would be really drying on my hair as most of the reviews have stated. For reference I have short super straight but really thick oily roots with dry ends & a tendency to get real frizzy with static. This shampoo provided such a soft, cushiony lather that made my hair clean but not stripped in the slightest, added shine & smoothed out my strands. With the matching conditioner I can comb out my hair after the shower without any detanglers or leave in conditioners with such ease. The smaller bottles is $15 each which is a lot more than I’d like to spend on shampoo & conditioner but I also color treat my hair every few months so I think it’s worth it for the quality of the product. If you have had a hard time finding a Kenra Shampoo that works for you or if you’re just wanting to explore this brand I would give this set a try first. It doesn’t cause any heavy build up so I feel like thinner hair can still benefit from this.

Ugh not moisturizing as advertised. Leaves my hair feeling stripped. Not any better than pantene pro V and others in that peoce point. The smell isn’t any good either. Wasted my money at ulta but now I know! Do not recommend in the least

While I’m not overly fond of the smell, it does clean well without stripping or drying out my fragile hair. I find it as moisturizing as a shampoo can be without silicones. Doesn’t leave my hair feeling brittle and coated like the sulfate free Platinum shampoo did. I bought the liter bottle from Ulta and used the pump I bought from Curl Mart’s site. Kenra’s sister company Elucence has a shampoo called Moisture Benefits that is very similar.

Smells amazing but irritated my scalp like woah! And my hair didn’t very moisturized. I won’t be buying again.

Kenra Moisturizing Shampoo is excellent on my natural 4A hair. I have been using this product since 2000 it moisturizes, and cleans perfectly. The conditioner is even better, it gives a creamy soft lather after I’m done I spray Tui leave in conditioner and seal with olive oil or coconut oil and finally cream shea butter. This combination is awesome when retaining moisture. I alternate Aphogee green tea spray with Tui when I need protein.

This shampoo is the worst I have ever used. I like to switch up my routine to keep my hair healthy and happy so I thought I would give this one a try. I thought it was a little runnier than I like but it smelled nice and I had heard good things.
This shampoo and conditioner changed my hair. I have curly hair that I straighten about every three days or so, and in the month I was using it about two inches of hair broke off, it took me about that long to realize that it was this product that was making it happen. I was livid to say the least.
After just a week of switching back to Kpak my hair already felt better and was on the mend. I have never been so upset in my life.
I am now doing all the repair I can and mending it back to health NEVER buy this product it ruined my hair and took my length.

Once in a while, I have to change my shampoo because it gets discontinued or doesn’t work on my hair anymore. For more than a decade, I used a shampoo from Creme of Nature until it got discontinued. Then I used a similar product from the same brand that did not work at all. It left my scalp itchy and irritated. On top of that, I had a lot of hair shedding. So I went to Sally’s and since I know everyone there, I talked to my old buddy who asked me to try this. Not sure why my co-reviewers are so critical here but this does not make the roots greasy or leave it dirty. What you feel is true moisture. As soon as you dry your hair, it feels very clean and moisturized. Within the past couple of months, I have tried lots of shampoos and this is one of the best, if not the best. It has helped the itching and irritation. Most importantly, it takes very little effort to style my hair. Highly recommended!

I think this may have been reformulated for it is now in a different bottle than the picture. The photo here is very out dated. Anyways This is the best shampoo/conditioner. My hair is very moist, shiny, strengthening and the best bart is the scent is so light it doesn’t bother me. I am scent sensitive and most shampoos are too strongly scented but this is not. I simply love it. I have a closet full of shampoos and I am tempted to toss them all out given I like this shampoo/conditioner so much. I find I do not need any hair leave in conditioners
joyfulCamel8
I really wanted to love this shampoo because it is sulfate-free but I am sad to report that this just didn’t work for my hair. It does not moisturize well, leaving my hair looking dirty and nasty. I don’t have a problem with the smell. It just didn’t clean very well and left me with SO MUCH DANDRUFF. I have NEVER had a dandruff problem but this created such a mess. Mind you, I used 3/4 of the bottle and didn’t change anything else in my hair regimen so I am 100% this shampoo gave me the dandruff problem. So embarrassing to have to dust all that dandruff out constantly throughout the day. I gave this a fair shot but I won’t be repurchasing ever again.

I’m writing down a review of the new version of this shampoo (Blue letters)
My hair had been feeling so dry and spongey. I saw it at Sally’s and thought why not? I didn’t want to buy a drugstore shampoo since they don’t clean the hair well. Ion is a good brand so I thought this would be it.
As much as I wanted to like this shampoo, I just didn’t. While it did tame my sponge, it didn’t clean my hair well, I felt a residue in it even after washing. It gave my hair some frizz (minimal) and my scalp just didn’t feel right.
Pros:
Pretty Packaging
Tames sponges
Gives hair some shine
Cons:
Doesn’t clean hair well
Leaves hair a bit dry and sticky dirty.
Leaves scalp dirty even after showering.
Frizz
Smells like vomit
This is probably one of the worst shampoos I’ve ever tried, I even think that the only pantene shampoo I used was better than this.
morbidIguana4
Luxurious…..this is heaven on my dried out hair. Doesn’t weigh it down and works well with the color save conditioner. I am so glad I found this!
chicRuffs4
I got this for free when a Sally Beauty ION promotion was sent to me by mail allowing me to try one free shampoo from the store.I was really caught between choosing this one and the sulfate-free one, and I’m glad I picked this one. This smells like a delicious orange creamsicle and works amazingly on my hair! I definitely saw an improvement in the condition and softness of my hair just by trying the shampoo, and it made me interested in trying more products in the line. I’m unsure about rebuying though because the bottle is like 8 dollars for its fairly medium size, and I am looking for a better value for my buck when it comes to shampoo and conditioner that ends up going down the drain after use.

My hairdresser could not believe how healthy my hair was. It had been 8 weeks since I had my last coloring due to me being on vacation and then her being on vacation. My hair is dry and tends to be frizzy. This shampoo helped to add moisture to my hair. I would recommend this to anyone with dry or color treated hair.
holisticBustard4
This shampoo wasn’t bad, though I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. It had a very smooth and silky texture and it smelled delightful, but overall I didn’t really see much of a change. It did do a good job of cleaning my hair and giving it some moisture.
I don’t think that I would buy this again though, mostly because I didn’t get amazing results.
mellowFish2
So i have really dry hair and was looking for a moisturizing shampoo/conditioner … I ran into sallys and seen they had one liters 2 for 18$ after a couple tries i stopped using it…. It seemed to leave my hair even drier and no shine… Switched to a different brand and eventually ran out of that one…. I ended up retrying this one (since i had so much leftover) and the same result … I would not reccommend this product to anyone as it makes your hair worse 🙁
goofyCockatoo5
This wonderful smelling dupe of Biolage shampoo actually works much better at moisturizing my dry, color-treated, fine hair.
eagerLemur8
I really enjoy this shampoo and I also use the matching conditioner. It is very comparable to Matrix Biolage, only unbelievably seems to work better and smell better!
The smell is heavy until the hair is dry then it is quite pleasant, almost like a light perfume. My boyfriend loves smelling my hair when I use this 🙂
My hair feels light, weight free and less damaged. It’s soft and manageable. I definitely recommend this product and would buy again and again.

I went to Sally’s to get the GVP version of Biolage Matrix Hydrating Shampoo. That one smelled funky and as I was debating, the sales associate said I should check out the Biotera version. It smelled MUCH better to me. That and the fact it was on sale decided it. I am so glad I went for it! I have been using the shampoo and conditioner for 2 weeks now and I feel like I had a hair make-over. I heat style my shoulder-length hair almost everyday and typically have half an inch of dry, split ends. My water also has a lot of calcium. Prior to this I used Garnier and Dove, and my hair was never shiny – always kind of dull and crispy. Well, now it is smooth and shiny. I still have my split ends, but they look much better than before – I don’t have that frizzy dead look anymore! I am getting this for my mom on my next trip to Sally’s.
excludedThrushe3
Love the whole Biotera line! Exactly like Biolage. Moisturizes hair, leaves a beautiful shine, and smells fantastic. I will always purchase these products.
panickyApricots9
This is my favorite shampoo in the world it makes my hair soft and smooth and it smells good and makes my hair grow healthier i use it with the conditioner
dopeySausage5
I LOVE this shampoo so much. It is probably one of the best I have ever used. BUT someone pointed out that this contains diazolidinyl urea, which is a very questionable ingredient. I hope that Shikai uses it at the low amount of <0.5% which is considered safe. I am assuming it is considering how low it is in the ingredient list.
However, it still deserves a 5 for function. It cleans hair nicely, great lather, smells good even though it is artificially scented. It leaves my hair feeling great after rinsing and does feel moisturised.
I may buy this again but for now, I will just finish it off and move on.

I love this shampoo so much, that I sent a gallon of it to my sister-in-law in India as a gift. Yes, literally a gallon because we purchased the large size on Amazon.
This shampoo is super gentle – no harsh detergents – but cleanses the scalp well. It leaves hair shiny, bouncy, hydrated, without any product build-up. I don’t have to wash my hair every day anymore because it keeps the oil production on my scalp balanced. It’s sulfate and silicone free, too. Added bonus – it’s affordable! A win-win!
Note – my hair type is fine, thin, color treated, but with an oily scalp. That means I can’t have products that weigh it down, but it needs to be hydrating for my thirsty color-treated strands, and it can’t be too oily for my scalp. I’m picky, but this shampoo is a keeper 🙂
peskyRhino3
I really love this shampoo, so far. I’m pretty picky on hair products, its hard for me to find something that I can stick to. My hair is baby-fine, highlighted, glossed, and usually pretty thirsty. This shampoo is not heavy at all, it smells amazing, washes my hair thoroughly, but definitely adds moisture to my thristy tresses. Lather is thick, and I do look forward to washing my hair! When dry, hair is soft as butter and shiny.
kindQuiche6
I have tried both this and the Everyday Shampoo – they have the same fragrance which I love. The ingredients are exactly the same, but I found the Everyday too drying and this one too heavy – and both made my hair really dark. They lather well, I didn’t need much, and they rinse well. But for me, this was one was just way too oily – and my hair is somewhat dry.
gutturalMagpie3
I think they changed the formula since the review from 2002, does not have S”m”S as stated. Smells natural, makes my indoor heating ravaged hair feel much nicer.
brainyGatorade2
I remember this stuff from 25 years ago, when this company had a booth set up at the New York State Fair. My sister and I bought a bottle of the shampoo which was not even in the stores yet. We later saw it for sale only in our local health food co-op. Used this throughout college. Sounds as though it’s formula has changed because it was very very tender and moisturising.
empathicBittern1
I have mixed feelings about this. First, the positive: this is scented with natural fragrance and I love the smell of it.
Second, the negative: “MOISTURIZING”???? Ehh, not in the slightest. This contains no SLS but does contain sodium “myreth” sulfate which is also a detergent. When you think of natural you assume it’s somehow milder (at least I do) but this shampoo strips my hair terribly. I had high hopes for this since I love the ShiKai body wash and lotions. Fortunately it was an inexpensive mistake as all ShiKai products are very reasonably priced.
crummyTeal3
I tried this and the Volumizing and as crazy as this sounds, I think the Volumizing is more hydrating than this one. This made my hair fluffy and it felt dry and seemed to continue to get a little drier as the day went on. The Volumizing seemed more moisturizing, and my hair felt silkier verses the softness of this one. I also much prefer the Volume scent to this one. Sometimes when I smell this, all I smell is orange blossom, other times, it smells like suntan lotion like another reviewer mentioned, either way, I don’t care for the scent at all. I also had a reaction to both, but if I could use this line, it would be the Volumizing – but then again, I don’t know what continued use would do.

First of all, thanks to SherryL for listing the ingredients. I’ve used this shampoo off and on for several years. I decided to revisit it when I saw Trade Secret had the liters 2 for $30. I purchased the matching Moisturizing Conditioner to go with it. This shampoo foams up nicely and smells wonderful. It doesn’t leave my hair tangled or dry feeling like some other sulfate-free shampoos I’ve tried. My hair is 2AB, fine, highlighted (though mostly natural blonde) and somewhat fuzzy. This shampoo gets my hair just clean enough and does remove product fairly well. My only complaint, as I listed on the conditioner review, is that I wish the liters would come with a pump like Bumble and Bumble liters do.
aloofLion5
Decent basic shampoo for those who want to use a milder sulfate shampoo to use on a regular basis and have color-treated or chemically-treated hair. Leaves hair soft and clean, and you don’t need much product for a lather. I’ve not yet crossed over to sulfate-free shampoo products, and this is gentle enough that I don’t think I will need to. I am saying I would repurchase this, but realistically I have way too many shampoos to use up before I’ll get to do so.
exactingCoconut7
This was the best shampoo I have ever used. I used it when wanted my hair very healthy because I was going to use harsh chemicals on it. It did the job better than i could have imagined.
My hair, especially a few years ago (due to a lot of abuse) would fall out during washing. When I used this, it stopped falling out. I’ve tried countless types of shampoos and none ever did what this one can.
Left my hair feeling and being healthy, moisturized and no split ends…really. It was the first time in my life my hair was so amazing. And I love how you can buy a huge 30 something ounce bottle. That bottle lasted me several weeks.
I recommend this to everyone, especially people who use a lot of heat styling like me. It’s so cheap and better than all the mainstream products.
Once i’m done using up my pantene shampoo, I’m going to switch back to Ion products. I’m kicking myself for even stopping in the first place.
gutturalPudding5
I love the smell of this stuff! it smells like orange cream, compared to salon shampoo this is nice stuff! it so much cheaper then salon stuff and works better. i would be again.
gleefulCamel5
Great shampoo if you need a boost in the moisture department. My hair isn’t overly dry, but I like to get some more hydration when it comes to my ends (they are sun damaged).
My hair looks so soft, and shiny after using this stuff. A little bit goes a long way too, so please keep that in mind. I follow up with an anti-frizz leave in condition by Ion as well, which helps my ends look even silkier and healthier.
I LOVE Ion products. I can’t see how this won’t be a new love for anyone.
wakefulRice4
It is hard for me to review just a shampoo, because I always use a conditioner or treatment after. So really, my results are based on using this with the matching conditioner. I used the ultra moisturizing version of both shampoo and conditioner. As I mentioned in the conditioner review, this stuff is HG worthy. It leaves your hair soft, shiny and ultra moisturized, without weighing it down. I have tried so many HE products over the years, that promise so much, but are just okay. Who knew, there are products that delivers what they promise!
awedOtter7
This product claims to “hydrate dry, damaged hair” but it had the opposite effect on mine. In fact, I now suspect that the brittle, frizzy hair I had over the winter was a result of this shampoo and not my highlights. I stopped highlighting my hair this spring, got a conditioning treatment, and also switched shampoos and my hair was doing fine. I ran out of the other shampoo (Paul Mitchell) so got this to use in the interim. After two weeks, my hair looks and feels as bad as it did over the winter when I was still highlighting it. And I know it’s the shampoo because my husband noticed the same thing with his hair, and neither of us changed the other hair products we were using. I don’t know what it is in the shampoo that causes this problem, and maybe it’s only a problem for some people, but bad hair days were pretty much the norm for me when using this product. it made my hair feel like straw.
pacifiedOatmeal0
I was introduced to this brand through my sister, who had recently purchased it. I gave it a try and immediately loved it! It reminds me of Matrix’s Biolage line of haircare products. It lathers a lot and leaves my hair feeling clean without drying it out. I also use the conditioner. Great products, size and price.
