I purchased this primer at the beginning of the wedding season this year. I wanted to put together a full face of makeup that would not budge all day in the summer heat. I love the other Cover FX primers and the brand description of this primer was to perfect to not purchase, as they describe it as “A primer with a jelly texture that visibly firms the look of skin, creates a glass-like finish, and grips makeup for long wear”.
The GOOD: I feel the primer does live up to some of the promises that it will improve the look of skin. The primer is a jelly texture that is wet and slightly sticky. The texture does appear to improve the look of skin and help to cover imperfections. I don’t know about a glass-like finish. I wouldn’t say my skin looked textureless but I did feel like it held the makeup in place all day.
The BAD & UGLY: I was pretty satisfied with the primer until I removed the makeup. My skin looked very dry and dehydrated. The next day my pores looked larger and red. I wore this primer on a couple of different occasions for different periods of time in different conditions and my skin hated it equally both times. I gave this primer to a friend and warned her of what could happen. She used this primer only on her nose where she has the most oil and makeup breaks up the worst. She liked the primer and did not have issues with it worsening her skin. She felt it improved how long her makeup stayed on her face but after a full day, there was still some breakup.
The Bottom Line: Because of my own experiences with this makeup, I rate this a 2. I hate what it does to my skin the day after but would take the chance for specific days, like weddings, where I am willing to take a hit to ensure the pictures are great. I would suggest picking up the Milk Hydro Primer instead if you are looking for a gripping primer.

Definitely prolonged the wear of my makeup. There was no breakage and hardly any would come off after blotting. Great for oily skin. I find that this one requires a little more effort to apply vs my other gripping primers, but you still don’t need much product for the entire face.
Will repurchase.

I’ve only reviewed a few Gripping Primers, J. One Red Jelly Pack and the new Milk Makeup Hydro-Grip Primer. Cover FX recently released their version of a Gripping Primer. The new Cover FX Gripping and Firming Primer does a great job of gripping onto foundation and extending wear time. The firming claims were a little unimpressive, but I judged this primer based on it’s gripping ability.
The clear jelly applies easily if you apply it to one area of your face at a time. Apply the jelly to the tips of your fingers and pat onto skin, spending about a minute per area of your face. This is process takes a few minutes which is to be expected with a gripping primer. Once this is applied skin looks nice and is a great canvas for foundation application.
The Cover FX Gripping and Firming Primer most definitely extends makeup wear time by several hours. The Gripping Primer helps prevent skin from looking oily. The Primer also helps prevent makeup transfer. I love that this Primer is fragrance free and is a nice option for sensitive skin.
The price of $38 may seem a little pricey, however a small amount goes a very long way. I expect with daily use that a bottle would last 3-4 months. My only issue with this primer is where exactly does sunscreen fit into the morning routine? Applying sunscreen over the primer seems to be a little annoying. When I use the Cover FX Gripping & Firming Primer I use a foundation that includes sunscreen to prevent having to use another layer on my skin. My video review can be seen here: w
