This is absolutely my holy grail concealer. For me, concealer is the single most important makeup product. I have dark undereye circles which make me look exhausted and ill if I don’t cover them up. I also have quite dry skin under my eyes and a lot of concealers end up looking patchy and creased. It’s hard for a concealer to do the job of concealing without making the whole eye area look ‘flat’ in the process. Brightening and illuminating concealers aim to address that issue but rarely deliver – coverage is usually too sheer and difficult to build. Sometimes they end up veering into color correcting rather than concealing, which rarely turns out well, at least in my experience.
By Terry’s Touche Veloutee is none of the above. It’s really in a league of its own and since I first tried it 3 years ago, I’ve never really strayed from it (ok, I’ve dabbled in some other concealers but in the end I always come back to the Touche Veloutee with even more appreciation for it.)
Detailed overview of my thoughts below:
SHADE: I have the Touche Veloutee in both Porcelain #1 and Cream #2. I first bought it in Cream based on swatches online and reviews which seemed to indicate Cream was a pretty universal shade for fair/fair-medium skin. In the end, Cream ended up being too dark and yellow-tinged for my very neutrally undertoned, leaning towards cool N15 skin. It wasn’t unworkable – I still occasionally mix a dab of it with Porcelain to conceal darker blemishes – but it ended up making me look sallow in the undereye area and didn’t blend into my skin perfectly. One thing I would recommend keeping in mind if you buy Cream is that I noticed it has a tendency to oxidise once you open the tube – not on your face but in the tube itself which obviously then affects the colour on your face. So it ends up a shade to a shade and a half darker (in MAC terms) after a span of six months or so. By that point, it’s practically ochre and totally unworkable for me.
Anyway, I loved the formula, and so I moved on and tried Porcelain, the lightest shade. It has a petal pink cast to it but the base of the formula itself is a pale creamy ivory, so the pink tones are muted and don’t dominate. In fact, the little touch of pink brightens up the undereye area and really makes me look ‘fresh’ in the glowy, youthful sense of the word.
One thing to note about pink based concealers is that there’s a big difference between the light petal pink in the Touche Veloutee Porcelain versus the warm salmon-pink verging on apricot colour of the other By Terry concealer (Touch Expert) in #1 Fresh Fair. The latter is flattering on almost nobody while the former is great at delivering an illuminated, brightened effect, regardless of whether you have cool or warm skin.
FORMULATION: This is a lovely satiny texture that is neither luminous nor matte in finish. It is extremely easy to blend (I like using my fingers) and really melts seamlessly the skin, provided of course that the shade is a good match. It’s also quite buildable so you can achieve a pretty high level of coverage if you need to (although I do find that too much layering sometimes ends up looking powdery).
I mainly use this under my eyes and it’s great not just as a concealer but as an all around eye primer, evening out the colour of my lids and providing a nice base for eyeshadow. It’s also very good at evening out redness around the nose, mouth and chin.
For blemishes, I don’t think this is the ideal concealer (I prefer a stick concealer for that). But if I’m in a pinch, I dab a bit on my hand – not on the blemish – and then apply directly to the blemish with a precision concealer brush.
Whichever part of my face I’m applying it, I set afterwards with a light dusting of translucent powder to set it in place. I live in a humid climate so that’s necessary for me, may not be for you.
PACKAGING: I love click wand packaging so I’m a little biased but gosh, this is good. First of all, the amount of product you get is fantastic – there’s easily 3x the amount of the By Terry Touch Expert, the YSL Touche Éclat or the Chantecaille Le Camouflage Stylo. Yes, this is expensive but I think in terms of cost per ounce, this one is actually a good deal.
It has a paddle-shaped brush applicator which the product is dispensed through (one click is more than enough for my eyes, btw) and which theoretically you could use to apply directly. Personally, I find the brush a little stiff and in any case prefer my fingers anyway, especially in the delicate undereye area. Another thing about the applicator brush is that it will splay out if you don’t replace the cap properly so mine tend to look a little mangy towards the end of their shelf life.
I find that the tube itself is a little bulky/heavy but that’s because it simply contains more product so I can live with it. I do leave this one at home and keep a less weighty concealer in my purse for any necessary touch ups (which are rare).
Aesthetically, the packaging of the Touche Veloutee is in keeping with its price, as it should be. The tube itself is luxurious and golden and the gold doesn’t corrode or peel off or anything like that. It is unfortunately very prone to getting smudgy, esp if you apply with fingers like I do. Can’t have everything though.
Bottom line: I love this concealer and I highly recommend it – it is WAY better than the other concealer in the By Terry line so for any of you who are debating between the two, go with the Touche Veloutee! Colour matching with By Terry products in general is frankly not the easiest thing to do and it may be best to try and have a look in store before buying (or else rigorously pore through the online swatches!) That said, I say it’s worth the effort and the price. I have FOUR backups of the Touche Veloutee in Porcelain (just counted!). That’s how much I love this stuff.

I use this concealer to hide occasional break-outs and for this purpose it is brilliant. It is very light but blends well covering my imperfections and stays put all day. since I use mineral powder foundation I need my concealer to be light but efficient. I have not tried it as a under eye concealer. It is pricey but the product lasts forever making the price more reasonable.

I was very disappointed by this product as an under eye concealer. As background I am 32 with a few fine lines under my eyes and ALOT of dryness – Im always on the hunt for an under eye concealer that doesnt highlight lines and dryness – this really does 🙁 It sits really badly under my eyes, creases, and just cakes horribly! I was so surprised such a luxury brand looked so bad.
However – this is a decent concealer for elsewhere on the face – it covers redness on my cheeks well and it blends in really well. However I wouldnt say that it justifys the price tag.
there are lots of good reviews here for this item and by and large By Terry is a faultless brand – I’m a huge fan – this product just wasnt for me.

Expensive, but the tube is massive (at least twice the size of ysl touche eclat). If this concealer were only for covering uneven skin tone and blemishes, I would give it five stars – it’s amazing on that front, as it blends seamlessly and provides high coverage without being greasy/obvious. However, using it on my under eye area is disastrous as it sets to a powder finish and settles into every crease and wrinkle. I will repurchase though, and use as a straight forward concealer – defo one of the worst under eye concealers, but one of the best spot-covering complexion smoothers.

Oh this concealer is just divine! Apparently the same person is also the genius behind YSL Touche Eclat. I’ve been using it for approx the last 2 years and I’m currently on my 3rd tube (or is it pen?). I use it pretty much every day so it really does last. I buy it from Space NK.
The concealer itself is a lovely creamy texture that glides smoothly onto the skin. Once blended, you don’t even notice it’s there (well apart from the obvious fact that it’s covered the things you want to hide). I have pretty light skin (NW20) and use it in Cream. I use it with my foundation or on it’s own to cover the odd few blemishes and to hide the minimal discolouration I have under my eyes. The coverage lasts all day too and never goes blotchy or slides off the skin.
The only thing I honestly dislike about the product is that the brush is too big and using it applies too much product on my face. Instead I use my finger or a concealer brush to apply, which honestly isn’t an issue for me.
Tip: When you think the tube is empty it’s really not, there’s still LOTS of product left! I struggle a bit to get the brush end off, to get to the inner tube. Not very travel-friendly after this but definitely worth it for the extra product.
Update Sept 2016:
Still using this, it’s just as beautiful, luxurious and silky as ever. But I have a mini rant – the price has went up so much! I bought one around Christmas 2015 for £33 I think. I ran out recently a bought another for £38.50! What the hell! How can a product go up in price that much in less than a year? Might start looking around for a cheaper one. This tube will last me for another 8/9 months so plenty of time.

My very first high-end concealer, purchased on a whim at Covent Garden’s Space NK quite a few years ago. It holds quite a bit more than YSL’s Touché Eclat, and is also more pigmented, making it more of a concealer than Touché Eclat. I only have a small gripe though, the brush is a tad too big for what I use it for – under the eye, but apart from that it’s a lovely product and I’ve since repurchased another! My first Touché Veloutee click pencil lasted me two years with almost everyday use, which means a little goes a long way and it gives the most natural finish! I wear shade 01, and I’m lighter than NC15.

I’ve been searching for a highlighter/concealer for my underye area to look more awake. I’ve tried YSL, MAC, Dior, L’Oreal, Armani, Tarte – pretty much every notable one out there. I was ready to go back to YSL when I came across a blog talking about By Terry. Apparently, the creator for YSL is now her own company, By Terry. I wanted something that would be moisturizing, highlighting, concealing and lasting. I bought it in #3. I’m about a NC 37 and this color was perfect. It’s a little thicker and a little more concealing that YSL making it perfect! No glittery effect like some luminizers, just enough to make you look awake. It lasts all day without creasing.
It’s expensive but you get a lot more product than you do with YSL or Dior – so it’s probably comparable, but still pricey. It’s a giant pen. My one complaint is the big brush tip. It’s a little stiff and large for using undereye, or for highlighting. I suggest using it to place the product but then use another brush or beauty blender to blend. It’s my HG for sure. I took off a lip pie for price and packaging but really it’s awesome.

I’m OBSESSED WITH CONCEALER. I have the Nars Creamy one, La Prairie, Estee Lauder Double Wear, La Mer’s cream compact one, the Cle de Peau stick and Mac Pro Longwear.
I purchased this after I saw an immaculately made up lady in my hairdresser’s in London applying it in a mirror. It’s regarded as the best hair salon in London so I always like to snoop around at other ladies fashion etc in there! Her makeup was exactly what I like- polished, groomed, flawless coverage yet still natural and glowy, so I was sold! I got it in shade #2 and for comparison I am an NC15-20 in Mac. I also love Nars’ Creamy Concealer in Vanilla but that photographs quite white.
This is very very good but irritates my skin which is such a shame! So if you have sensitive skin/rash prone/breakout prone try any of the others I have mentioned in this review.
This one looks great in photos as well as real life and is no doubt one of the best on the market in concealers. Applies like a dream and stays well, doesn’t crease in my opinion.
Negatives- strongly fragranced in a typical powdery-perfume-makeup smell, you know the one. Also it gives me breakouts if i wear it too long or in consecutive days – but that means it’s probably great for drier skins. My HG is still my La Praire concealer, the La Mer and Estee Lauder. Not sure if I’ll repurchase because of the skin irritation…

I went to the Space.NK department at my local Bloomingdales to purchase another By Terry product. I heard a great deal about their concealers and on a whim, I just happened to apply the Touche Veloutee concealer in Cream under my eyes. I just used my fingers to quickly blend it in and then went on with my other purchase. A few minutes later I happened to glance in the mirror and did a double take. I was surprised to see that the puffiness and red discoloration under my eyes was gone. It seemed like the concealer lightened the area and almost airbrushed it. I have grown increasingly skeptical of makeup products that promise too much and never seem to live up to their promises. But in this case, seeing is believing.
This product definitely gave me coverage as well as some highlighting. I have used YSL’s Touche Éclat in the past when I was quite a bit younger. As I got older I had to stop using it because it simply did not give me enough coverage. I think the By Terry Touche Veloutee does much more. They are not that far apart in price right now. At my age I definitely need some coverage. However, full coverage concealers are far too heavy and seem to only emphasize the areas that I want to hide. The shade was perfect for my NW25 skin. The application is quite easy. I had no problem with the big brush. I find with one click you can get the right amount of product and just sweep it under the eye area. Then I blend it out with my Sephora Pro Airbrush Concealer Brush. The staying power is excellent.
I never thought that I would pay this price for a concealer, but the results are there. Nothing gets rid of under eye bags. However, I do find the whole under eye area softer and lines are diminished and even the appearance of my eye bags isn’t as obvious. That’s why I bought this product. I have combined it with my current concealer, Maybelline Age Rewind and the results are very good.
There are great concealers that are reasonably priced. I cannot speak to how this product works on dark circles because I don’t have that problem. I can only state how it met my needs. It’s insanely expensive but every once in a while I will splurge on a product that gives me outstanding results. This is one of those products.

This isn’t a full coverage concealer, so I don’t use it on days when my undereye circles are especially prominent. I have bluish circles from allergies and insomnia and while they’re not extremely dark they do stand out because I’m so pale (NW10). Usually I switch around between Cle de Peau in Ivory, and Armani High Precision Retouch but have also been using this for the last year. I love this for the silky, extremely smooth texture, lightweight consistency, and because it melts into skin so beautifully. My skin is normal but dryish sometimes, especially in winter, and this doesn’t cling to the dry areas or look like it’s sitting on top of my skin. I occasionally use it around my nose area when allergies turn my nostril area pink. It’s as thin and liquid as a sheer foundation, so it spreads so well and is incredibly easy to blend out.
I have this in Porcelain and it’s a perfect match. It’s slightly brightening but in the most sophisticated, subtle way possible. I like that it doesn’t shimmer or look typically light reflective like the Armani or Clinique’s Airbrush Concealer. Honestly I think this has the best finish I’ve ever seen in a liquid concealer. Sets well and sinks in quickly and doesn’t retain the original creamy texture once it’s on skin, so if I set it with a little loose powder it doesn’t cake up at all. Best of all I can build it up where needed without it pilling or looking unnatural. I dislike fragrance in any skincare/beauty products but I don’t mind the light rose scent in this. It dissipates fast and doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin.
I never use the attached brushes on these types of products for hygienic reasons. I dispense it on the back of my (clean) hand then use my fingers or a concealer brush to apply it to my skin. I wish this came in a pump bottle or with a doe foot applicator so I could control how much is dispensed. A full click is too much and I always end up wasting some.
This is amazing if you’re a fan of lightweight concealers or if you aren’t a fan of heavy products on your skin.

For reference, I am mixed race (caucasian & south-east asian) and about NC30-35 with warm yellow undertones. My skin tends to be combination/oily but can experience surface dryness and my eye area is pretty dehydrated (with oily lids of course – awesome). I love undetectable makeup, like the kind you see in photoshopped magazine editorials, and I balk at the sight of obvious pigment creasing or mascara clumps!
My under-eye area is my primary beauty concern because I’ve had bags ever since I was a little girl (made more prominent by an epicanthic fold), and a couple of years ago I was in a car accident that left me with two black eyes for weeks, which have never completely gone away – the blood kind of pooled at the bottom of my eye bags. Sounds pretty, right!
I have trouble finding the right under-eye concealer because nothing can eradicate shadows caused by bags unless I have surgery or filler, and the worst of the darkness is not immediately under my eyes but low (level with half-way down my nose), which would make anyone look 20 years older or like a drug addict. Other concealers I’ve tried are Laura Mercier’s Secret Concealer (looked obvious in photos, too cakey and gave me milia-like bumps on my skin, common with overly emollient eye products), NARS Radiant Concealer (good but a bit dry and cakey, and Ginger was too dark for me), Dermablend (pretty good but cakey), Revlon Age Rewind (dry, bad shade selection), Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage (not suitable for under-eyes at all), MAC Studio Finish (similar to Dermablend but too waxy and cakey, and wrong colour), Sephora Smoothing & Brightening Concealer (most similar to Touche Veloutee, but bad shade selection).
For the record, I dislike YSL’s Touche Eclat, just because it doesn’t do anything for me and it’s best to not add makeup when it has no benefit, and also because the shades are ashy. Touche Veloutee is very similar, however the formulation just seems more elegant and the coverage is much better. The texture is whisper thin and this is great for the inverted triangle method to brighten the centre of your face if your skin is good. The packaging is pretty and I think it works well – you just press the button once and immediately enough product comes out for both eyes, but I find it hard to open sometimes if my hands are sweaty. The problems I have are that the finish is semi-matte and slightly dry, so it can catch on the dry parts on the surface of my skin. It really isn’t the worst offender out of all available base products though – my eyes have been very dry lately and when I smile they crinkle horribly, but this doesn’t make them look as bad as the NARS Radiant concealer, for instance. It also doesn’t exacerbate the little bumps under my eyes, but it does settle into fine lines a little (not as badly as Laura Mercier Secret Concealer). I use #03 Beige, and it’s a little too light for me so I look “made-up” as opposed to natural, and as it dries to a semi-matte finish, it can just generally look dry and flat. The worst problem for me is that it doesn’t provide sufficient coverage. It blurs the darkness a little, especially near my tear ducts, but I have to use Armani’s corrector underneath and even then the darkness shows through. Because both are thin and watery, it doesn’t look cakey but they both dry matte and cling to the skin so I just wish I didn’t have to wear so much product!
I swatched Ellis Faas’ concealer at Mecca Cosmetica and they’re very similar, though Ellis Faas seems more of a satin finish and looks slightly sheerer in coverage.
I’m glad I own this but it’s not totally right for me. I’m still searching and will try Armani Retouch, Cle de Peau or La Mer The Radiant Concealer next. I will report back!

I’ve tried so many of these types of products and they either dry out my under eye area or they fall into small creases. This is the best. It stays put, I don’t need to reapply & doesn’t dry my skin (Armani’s under eye concealed does, ysl falls into creases, so does Givenchy’s & that one has larger light reflecting particles that look noticeable on day light). By Terry’s is perfect & while there are only 3 colors, it works great for me & my dark circles (& bags from working too late). Runner up (& more budget friendly) is actually origins- I tried it on a fluke. By Terry might be more costly, but it’s both a concealer & highlighter/brightener . So you get a 2 in 1. The texture is smooth, and light (not too heavy/cakey). It applies really easily & a little goes a long way. I don’t use the brush to blend it in, instead I apply with the brush in dots in key areas, then blend. I don’t even need to touch up at the end of the day. I like the packaging a lot, it’s beautiful, but large so I gave it a 4

I set this product a huge challenge today (it just arrived this morning) as I was out late last night and had a couple (ahem) of glasses of wine, then had to get up at 6.30am. So far I am very impressed with the product as an under eye concealer. It doesn’t seem to cake – I find that YSL Touche eclat can gather in those tiny creases (I don’t really have wrinkles yet) and looks too cakey if you’re trying to cover really tired circles – but this doesn’t. It is a lovely silky texture, which turns to a matte finish. Possibly if you had very dry skin you might find it a little too dry, but for me (I have normal – combination skin) it is great – and the packaging is nice. Definitely pricey, but I think you really do get what you pay for with under eye concealers as they have one of the trickiest jobs on such delicate skin! I would definitely get this again and will be recommending it to friends and sisters! The only thing I would say is that I am confused by another reviewer saying it runs dark. I bought it in Porcelain (the lightest shade) and it is VERY light. I have fair to pale skin, and this is almost TOO light on me. It’s ok, but I’m pretty sure the next one down would be slightly better, certainly if I had any tan at all.

I love this product. It is so much better than YSL Touche Eclat. It is more expensive, but you get twice as much product. I put it under my eyes and everywhere else on my face where I need concealing. It stays put, does not crease. I will say that it runs dark. I usually wear a light, but in this product I purchased porcelain. I will never be without.

This highlighter/concealer is an excellent product in terms of coverage and value. For example, while the price is higher than YSL’s Touche Eclat (which the Terry in By Terry originally designed), one gets a lot more product, costing much less per ounce. It covers my under eye circles well and I also use it to cover up any redness around my nose and mouth. The color I use is Porcelain, the lightest of the bunch, and it is a perfect match for my fair skin. I apply it before foundation, and it helps to use an eye cream first to reduce dryness and product creeping into fine lines. Just a dab applied to the corner of each eye completely transforms your entire face.
My sole complaint is the brush. I don’t use it. Rather, I only use the brush to place the product in the corner of each eye and I then use my Trish McEvoy Cream Blender brush #66 or my ring finger to blend the product because the attached brush is too large and imprecise. Also, a little goes a very long way, making it even more economical. Creasing is minimal, leaving a powdery matte finish behind instead. It definitely was an excellent purchase, a real problem-solver for me.
EDIT: My needs from a corrector/concealer have changed since I first reviewed this product. I still believe that this is a good value: for $65, you get a lot of product (I have a great deal left, and it’s still my first tube). But the brush makes it essentially useless: it’s far too large to efficiently target the inner corner of my eye. Also, with the passage of time, I have developed a need for more coverage. It’s really a highlighter as opposed to a concealer, despite the name. I’ve switched to Bobbi Brown’s corrector which provides a lot more coverage and takes only a tiny bit of product.

I am a concealer addict so I didn’t hesitate to try this one out when recommende by the ladies at Mecca maxima – but boy am I soooo disappointed in this over hyped over priced supposed “best non creasing under eye” concealer. The brush is so stiff and I feel like it absorbs a lot of the product rather than applying it onto the skin. The product feels watery and then slightly oily when blending out with my finger. The Mecca lady matched me to the wrong colour (number 4) which turns out very pink and makes me look like I hve a rash when wearing. It creases pretty much immediately, even when setting with a powder (also without setting). Have tried it with eye cream, eye primers , other concealers and I have to say I actually hate this product. For $80 I could have bought my favourite revlon anti age eye concealer 5 times over. My favourite concealers this far would be nars creamy concealer, Estée Lauder double wear concealer and revlon anti aging eye concealer. This by terry one would be on my “never buy again” list- but majority of my opinion comes down to the ridiculous price for such a mediocre formular that dupes it’s buyers into believing it’s amazing from the over pretentious packaging. Would highly NOT recommend this

I had quite high expectations on this highlighting concealer but sadly I was disappointed.
The concealer is quite expensive however you get much product. I did not care for the packaging – the brush is useless both for distributing the product directly under the eye and just to pump out the product onto the hand. The pump on the pen get stuck after every pump. So everything just becomes a mess.
The color range was not that great for my skin color because I was between two shades. And the colors are unforgiving on your skin so you have to have the color-matching on point.
The concealer creased easily and you really have to work the product into the skin to get some what of a nice finish. I think the matte effect made it worse and I don’t think that it had that much of a highlighting effect.
Overall I think it’s not worth the price at all and I am not repurchasing.
