It’s a truly horrible product and I’m really disappointed with it. The product is dry and crumbles when I put it on, going into my eyes and onto my face so I have to clean my eyes and then throughout the day it continues to crumble onto my face or into my eyes. Nor does it come off smoothly, it rolls into balls – I have to use four times more eye make up remover and cotton pads than I usually do with YSL mascara products.

I bought this from the ysl site recently when they had the 20% off sale and free engraving- it was neat to get it personalized. I got the violet color which doesn’t really look violet just kind of dark. It has a slight floral scent that doesn’t linger. It builds up nicely, doesn’t clump or smudge and looks good at first but doesn’t hold the curl and at the 8 hour mark it starts to flake like crazy. I can’t return it because engraved items are non returnable so I use it on short work days or weekends. I would not repurchase but would get other ysl mascaras in the future.

A couple of years ago I moved on to YSL mascaras (from Clinique Lash Power – the ONLY one that did not smudge on me!) and after using about 4 tubes of Le Shock I’ve heard about this new one, that is supposed to be smudge proof and that holds curl really well so I decided to move on sideways, this time within the brand.
If you are moving to this mascara from a regular volumising YSL one be prepared for a plastic wand… that is pink and curved. I’m a big fan of traditional bristle wands, they simply work better with my long but delicate eyelashes, and The Shock was giving me a TON of volume, it sadly was also smudging on me just a little bit later on in the day, dow-three months down the tube (you can keep it open for 6 months, I did maximum 4-5 months).
The design of the wand used in this latest YSL mascara is a puzzle to me. It is supposed to help you curl the eyelashes but at the same time it has a kind of container for the mascara in the depth of the ‘canoe’ that creates a CLUMP CITY if you go for it and apply it like a regular mascara. You need to delicately angle the wand so that that extra lump of mascara gathered in this space of the wand stays the hell out of your eyelashes. When you learn that, you are good, then it is perfect.
It truly gives full, jet black, magnified eyelashes that stay smudge free all day long. If you however go ahead and apply it without care or, God forbid, decide to re-apply/add some more even a couple of seconds later – CLUMP CITY. This mascara sets within SECONDS. There is no going back (I tried once to comb through with an old, washed with some soap and water wand from Le Shock), you have to get it right at the very first attempt.
As to the curl holding, I think that the mascara’s texture is so dense and heavy that the curl disappears as the day goes on. However, no smudging so it is a winner in my book. Why not 5 lippies then, even though the pinkish, metallic packaging is a beauty? I just wish it came with a different, less gimmicky wand and was not perfumed – no-one needs fragrance near their eyes. Luckily I did not have any reaction to it.
It comes off relatively easily with a cleansing oil and some gentle nudging with a warm, wet cloth. I did not loose any eyelashes in the process, neither I noticed any strengthening. I will probably repurchase, unless it starts smudging on me as the tube progresses (had it for about two months now and I’ve been using it every single day).

I have the habit to read reviews before buying a certain product as I usually don’t like to test the products myself, especially mascaras because of hygienic reasons. This time, however, due to the many negative comments I decided to risk and I tried the tester mascara in the shop hoping that no-one with a serious eye infection has used it before and I think I was lucky. I was surprised that from the very first time I could handle the wand easily and the result was excellent! My lashes were longer, fuller and immediately well-separated.
I should mention that as typically I apply mascara mainly on the outer lashes to achieve a cat-eye look, I was holding the curler mascara with the arch of the brush towards me and the small combs up. I don’t think this is the best way to achieve lifting and whether everyone would like it but for me it worked perfectly.
I bought the violet one which actually does not look that violet at all when applied. Removing it was also much easier than what I expected. I tested this also in the shop.

So I’m the first positive review- interesting. First off- mascara is an individual thing. I tend to be lucky with YSL mascaras and don’t find them to be drying, flaky or irritating on me. If anything, after Faux Cils they have just been underwhelming. The brush on this one looks like a paddle with little teeth attached and it can feel too wide for easy application (a little smudging that I wipe away without issues) but I’m ok with it. The black shade was definitely a brighter black but I went with the brown. In Rome where I got mine- (it’s not available in the US yet) it’s only available in black, brown and a violet shade. Applied, my lashes look like a heightened version of natural. I don’t want to look like the YouTube Instagram girls with a row of false lashes and this *might* do that (maybe) but only if you seriously pile it on which I don’t want to try to do. I find my lashes look longer, a bit thicker and very pretty. I don’t think it’s clumpy- but that’s also me understanding how tto use the wand better. You just have to play with it a bit to see how it works. The packaging is lovely and it’s up to you whether it’s worth the YSL cost- to each his own. I’m pleased with it!

This is the worst mascara I have ever used!
I never usually leave reviews but I am so displeased with the product that I had to say something!
I used babydoll mascara for years, when went on to re-purchase it a sales lady said it was discontinued and offered me this one. She was so excited about it, pointed out that she was wearing it and it looked awful (that should’ve been a red flag) I bought it anyway.
It is absolutely impossible to apply it as you have to go over and over the lashes until it all ends up in clumps. Then it dries out and so difficult to take off, I feel like I’m pulling my lashes each time.
It is a lovely brand and I love other products, but this one is a major miss.

By far the worst mascara ever: the mascara does not stick to lashes at all upon appplication. One needs to reapply and reapply over and over to get any mascara onntge lashes. Despite this, the mascara still manages to create awful clumps. The wand is very long and curly, therefore it is very easy to poke the eye and make a horrible mess. And lastly, the mascara has a distinct perfume added. Who puts perfume in a mascara? Hello, allergies and eye infections!

Omg, this new wand is awful to apply. The brush is too long, and I end up with mascara all over my face. The lashes look like falsies, but I do not like this style of volume: dramatique, clumpsy, spiky and way over the top. And it smudges. One of the worst mascaras I have tried so far.
