I bought this product because I watch too many dang YouTube videos, and mostly wanted it for the illuminating effects, forgetting for a moment that I hate the way my skin looks when I have too many layers on it. Anyway, this got some good reviews on YT, and I figured I’d give it a try. It did nothing for me, and I gave it a chance and tried it several ways. Because I am a stickler for wearing an original base of sunscreen, I have that first layer to contend with. A primer on top of that, and then foundation, then bronzer, blush, powder…it’s just too much. I was done with all my layers and applying setting powder when I looked closely at the cheek areas, and it was all mottled little yellow patches, bits of glitter and pink patches where my blush had caught. So for me, it’s not smoothing or a good prep for my foundation and other makeup. I had to wash my face and start over.
I’ve tried it on top of foundation, with a sponge, applying it to areas I wanted highlighted. It looked ok at first, then sort of disappeared into my skin and that was the last I saw of it. I tried wearing it alone, too shimmery, accented every little line and imperfection. Lots of teeny tiny flecks of gold glitter. I tried mixing it with my foundation, and I suppose that was the best look I got, but my foundation had less coverage, and really, it didn’t look all that great. I didn’t look like I had a glow from within, I looked like I had highlighter on.
Possibly you need the right mix of products for this to work. Maybe it would work perfectly under one foundation but not another, maybe my layer of sunscreen interferes..one should take all those things into consideration. I may try it with different foundations, and see if I can get better results, or I might give it away, but I definately won’t repurchase.

I love the packaging! It feels so lux and good quality! I would say this is much more intense than the Becca backlight priming filter; I tried this as a primer and I looked like I smeared metallic liquid highlighter all over my face. I don’t think this hides pores; for me, it emphasized them and even when I rubbed it out, I could still see metallic shimmer all over. This seems more like an actual liquid highlighter than a primer; it’s also way more metallic and pigmented than the Charlotte tilbury Hollywood flawless filter, which looks more like a skin toned based highlighter. This also isn’t hydrating at all

I’m going to try to find something nice to say about this. The packing is very nice-it’s pretty and feels luxurious. They got that right. I guess my makeup goes on smoothly over it. Ok, that’s it. That’s all I can say that’s nice.
I hate this stuff. What a bizarre look when I put this on my face. Just gross, that’s all I can think of when I see myself in the mirror. Maybe because I am pretty fair, the look is exaggerated. But the illuminating effect is so ridiculous. Then you put makeup on over it, and I think it just makes my makeup look greasy. And it wears greasy throughout the day. Maybe it’s just the illumination coming through. I had to be really careful to blend the primer into the foundation, so it didn’t show at all. Because it was crazy looking. I tried adjusting the amount of primer I used, but it was just bad. I wouldn’t call it illuminating. It’ like a really intense, bad, pearlescent beige liquid highlighter. You might be able to find a use for it as a liquid highlighter, I guess. Not for me, though.

This isn’t what I would call luminous, it is shimmery mica. And I mean shimmer all over. I looked like a like a bottle of craft glitter spilled on my head. I really wanted to like this. The packaging claimed that this would blur, protect skin and cover redness. It did not do any of these things. In addition, the mica shimmer accented my large pores.

I purchased this a couple of weeks ago and it has become the only thing I use on my face, except for underye concealer and cream blush! I love the glowy look of this. It works best for me if I pump a little and blend it over my face in sections. Tried using one entire pump and applying all over and it was too much. Love that this is not drying.

I know a lot of people, especially YT’ers claim that this is a dupe for the Becca Backlight Primer but having tried both I’d say that while similar, this is not a dupe. Becca is sticky and looks practically holographic on my skin but PF is both illuminating and moisturizing, absorbing into my skin. I prefer the PF formula because it feels nicer and is not as intensely illuminating, which is my personal preference. The packaging is much nicer than some of the PF packaging in past. Like the Healthy Foundation, it looks a step up from typical drug store brands but it also costs more so it stands to reason some of the cost is for the packaging. I’ve been loving the pairing of this primer with the foundation as well, they make a great combo. I was kind of surprised that I liked this since I haven’t been loving primers for the last couple of years even though I continue to try different ones out. I mean, I like them fine, I just don’t feel as if they make enough of a difference to warrant the extra step in my routine.

Fail. Primers aren’t supposed to be thick like this. It’s really really thick…so thick the pump can’t pump it without huge effort, and when it does it just plops out a big glob. It blends over the skin nicely, props there. But it doesn’t absorb in, know what I mean? It kinda sits on top and looks an odd shade…not light enough for pale skin, not the right tone for darker skin. Under makeup it does ok. It primes enough to make foundation go on smoothly and last all day, but it doesn’t make it look more luminous. And you can feel it on your skin, like it just feels really heavy. I think I’d buy it in a regular non-luminous version bc it’s not terrible and it didn’t break me out. They prob need to rethink the pump tho bc being so thick, the pump just struggles to work. Overall there are far better primers out there, but I think this would be able to compete if it was just a plain primer.

It delivers the most beautiful glazed glow when you swatch it and it spreads easily across the skin. But the smell of it is so off putting to me. It smells very heavily like old ladies face cream gone bad and that smell lingers on for far too long. As for the performance of the product: it interfered with my foundation. The foundation formed little rolls on top, didn’t attach well, never had that problem with any other primers. Also with the foundation on top not a trace of the glow left. However, it does look great on its own on a good skin day when you pair it with a powder foundation slightly dusted over it. So I’m on the fence about buying it again. Have to play with it a little more. For now it leans more towards NO mostly because of the scent. Do wish PF would stop over-perfuming their products.

A Youtuber recommended this primer. My skin tends to get oily by the afternoon. This did nothing for my pores, and my skin looked oily earlier. Also, it was hard to put my foundation on. Would not buy again.

And I have bought it again! I wear this primer frequently alone. I will use 2 layers to get a nice soft glow also. It makes your tan look sunkissed delicious! I will use it on my chest, neck and upper arms. the antioxidants keeps my skin looking dewy and moist. This is one of my favorite makeup products. CVS frequently has deals on Physician’s Formula.
