I was white platinum blonde, but starting self tanning and HATED the look (and the fact that it is nearly impossible to not get the stuff on my hairline no matter how careful I am). I am light/medium and cool toned untanned, but tanned I’m an nc42 and warm or dark tones look immensely more flattering on me. I used this 6.5g amber shimmer to start the darkening process as not to be overwhelmed. Obviously, if you have white bleached out hair, you need to do a warm color – an ash can and probably will give your hair an unflattering greenish cast. This took me to a dark golden blonde. No red at all – pure dark golden blonde. I’ll probably still have to “fill” before going dark brown/soft black which is the ultimate goal. By fill, I mean add some orange pigment in before dying with a semi, demi, or regular hair dye from a box. This dye didn’t put in enough pigment you need for a rich brown coming from white blonde.

i have natural strawberry blonde hair but was feeling a little dull. Wanted to brighten it up and warm up my face a bit. The result was beautiful rich color. I never use sulfates or colors anymore so i was nervous about damaging my hair, but this made my hair feel smoother and shiny! the color refresher did nothing.
BUT– This color washed out 1/2 after my first shampoo (waited 3 days) in cool water with non sulfate shampoo..and now my natural color is almost all the back after 4 shampoos total. I got the 28 shampoo box because i don’t want to damage my hair with the perm kind. I only wash my hair 2 x a week so this is pretty dissapointing. I am still not sure if it was the shampoo that did this because i had just bought the new shampoo to try.

This is probably the best hair color I’ve ever used — and I’ve been nearly every color under sun (save for black!). About me: Natural level 7 (dingy dark blonde) and I was most recently a faded out level 9 blonde. It’s funny how I got to this hair color. I bought extensions at Sally’s and the SA matched me to a “Caramel” color. They’re beautiful. I get home, look at them closely in a couple different lights — they. don’t match. Like I can’t even TRY to get them to match. I figured the extensions were more money than the last trip for my hair, so I’ll fix my hair to match. I picked this up and it’s perfect (cheap too, at hardly $6/box). I realized this is basically a polished version of my natural hair color – lots of warmth and shine. I wouldn’t say it’s red, but it’s definitely a gorgeous amber tinged hue. I love that it’s ammonia-free so I can continue to use it for upkeep without worrying too much that it’s damaging my hair, either. Note: the dye oxidizes fairly dark while processing. So much that I got worried my hair would be chocolate brown — relax, though! It washes out just right and my hair really is a shade of lovely caramel.

I used the color 11G, Lightest Golden Brown (aka, Amber Shimmer) Before coloring, my hair was a medium-dark golden blonde… I didn’t think Amber Shimmer would be much of a change.
Well, surprise! It’s a bigger difference than I expected! The emphasis should definitely be on the word AMBER, because my hair is red! And I don’t mean a reddish tinge. I’m talking full-on light auburn.
But it’s gorgeous! Back when I was trying to achieve auburn hair, I used Natural Instincts Spiced Tea. Now THAT color was crazy red. Spiced Tea was an unnaturally bright red. But this is actually the red of my dreams. And while it’s not really “lightest golden brown,” I’m very happy with the color. And as always, Natural Instincts left my hair soft and shiny.
In a nutshell.. if your starting color is light, I wouldn’t use this unless you want a natural red color. But if you DO want a natural red, this is perfect (better than Spiced Tea)
