I really like this “cologne” from Jo Malone. It’s unisex, but it leans towards the masculine side (I am a man myself). It has mandarin, grapefruit, lavender, basil, nutmeg and vetiver. It is fresh but has a woody under current. It reminds me a bit of pencil shavings (not a bad thing).

I like Jo Malone but I find the houses fragrances to be a) very light and b) mostly floral or citrus. This has citrus, but its more herb filled and spicy. It’s very interesting and leans more on the masculine side of things, which is why I like it. It’s not really like anything else in the line. Even though its a cologne, it seems to wear a lot longer than the other scents, very strong stuff.

154 goes on with a refreshingly sharp splash of citrus and lavender – invigorating as a cologne should be, but without any harshness. It develops fairly quickly, releasing more of that lavender, a touch of basil and a pinch of clean light patchouli, a lovely cooling summery scent. After about 20 minutes, on me it has lost it’s summery aspect and become a warm, comforting woody fragrance with a tiny dash of citrus. Until you get to the woody drydown I would describe this as genuinely unisex, but it gets more and more masculine as it wears. I have no problem with this personally but as the scent develops rather quickly you should be aware that it might smell decidedly aftershavey on your skin for most of the day. This is not to call it unpleasant. I will certainly be wearing it again (I only have a tester for now) but not entirely sure that I could be persuaded to buy a whole bottle. Lovely, but not quite my thing.

I never wear this alone. I layer it with Amber and Lavender and it smells heavenly on me.

JM named this fragrance after the street number of the first London. This is said to be herbaceous, with a myriad of other notes from citrus to basil, finishing with a woody base of sandalwood and vetiver. There is a lot going on with this fragrance, meaning a lot of these notes get “lost” to my nose, which is not all that sophisticated when it comes to identifying more than two or three fragrance notes. I really wish I’d sampled this first before making a purchase, but everything I ordered that day ended up being free because the SFA (I will not ID which store in which city here) shop sent my order to the wrong address and then accused me of trying to get free merchandise when I complained. Anyhoo, I digress…this will not be a repurchase, however I would like to try blending this with other citrus notes, as is encouraged by JM.

I love this scent. This ,I’ve found ,is the most complex of all JM scents. It is as deep and complex as it will get, but offers light crispness. Not deep like temple incense or lux hippie kind ,but wear-to- work kinda deep and musky. Without being too heady or monotone citrus-y. Right amount of complexity & sophisticated smell.
I’m happy with it and will wear it for a long time to come. Good everyday choice for me.

Based on the composition, found on basenotes.net, I ought to like this a lot more than I do. Jo’s 154 has the following: Top Notes: Bergamot, Grapefruit, Mandarin; Middle Notes: Lavender, Basil, Nutmeg, and Base Notes: Patchouli, Vetiver, Musk, Vanilla. You can’t smell the vanilla at all, so just forget that. The Lavender and Vetiver are the main things I smell. It’s not horrible, it’s just that it reminds me of my grandmother, who loved lavender, and I don’t want to smell like my grandma. My boyfriend hates this. I tried a sample of this once and yes, a man did compliment me on it, but the man was 72! So I suppose if I ever get desperate enough to date men in their seventies, I know which cologne to get! In the meantime I’ll stick to Jo’s lighter, less heavy scents and keep my 32-year-old boyfriend.

Ladies, I have a tip for you. If you have an interview, a presentation, or some important professional or academic event: Where this. Where this and a crisp dress shirt. A button-up that looks like your father’s. I’ve discovered that when women smell like men (in a good way), they subconsciously gain more credibility and power in this world, which woefully, still isn’t exactly gender equal. 154 is the perfect way to smell like a man subtly and beautifully. It’s masculine, crisp, clean, classy, but not too cologne-y.

154 is the only Jo Malone scent that I truly love. I find most others too sweet and fruity for my tastes, but this is a delightful unisex fragrance. I love the citrus opening, followed by lavender and basil. The drydown is mainly vetiver with a dash of patchouli on my skin. I love the fact that it’s woody but not overtly masculine on me. Unfortunately, like most Malone’s, longevity isn’t great. It will last 6-10 hours on me with a couple of sprays, whereas a lot of other fragrances will last 18-24.

I wear Bvlgari Eau Parfumee and love the green tea scent.
I was looking for something different and at first went for the lime and basil, but tested and got the 154. Quite an interesting fragrance and I like it a lot actually. I picked up the citrus, basil and some vetiver notes and probably because I prefer a green scent this was relatively easy for me to wear and enjoy it.
I do caution though it is like most of the JM range not cheap so test the scents, go back and keep trying as they are expensive and you don’t want to get stuck with something that isnt really you.
The other comment I would say is that I layer with the grapefruit body cream which keeps it fresh and zesty, but I do find that I reapply during the day with a few spritz’s but I dont know whether that is me or whether others can smell the scent.
Otherwise a gorgeous fragrance, modern, fresh and with a little kick. Could be unisex as well.
