First of all; I bought the shade “boy” when it first came out in its previous guise a while ago – firstly didn’t like it; then grew to like it a lot. Wind forward a year or so: I was bored at the airport and indulged myself in my on/off quest for a red lipstick that suits me – I have thrown so many away, cheap ones, expensive ones… – so as this is a very sheer lipstick I thought it would be worth a try. I have neutral to warm colouring so I chose the shade “pulse”, which is a lovely vermilion red. It looked great in the mirror when I tried it at the counter. Now for everyday reality.. I still do adore it BUT – the tip of it is very blunt so very hard to get a decent line; it is very bright so any mistake really shows despite it being sheer. If you blot it, it loses that lovely glossy, bright sheen and just becomes an ordinary red tint to your lips. So it really needs extremely precise application, which is what I don’t really need from a sheer lipstick like this (to me it should be just swipe on and go). So I am a bit disappointed (although when I get it right, it really does suit me!)

This lipstick is basically a tinted balm. The formula is very moisturizing and the coverage is sheer to medium depending on the shade you get. I got the colour Moment which is a very pretty pink nude colour. I pair this with MAC Chestnut to bring more brown into it to make it less light. The lipstick feels very good on the lips but the staying power isn’t that great. When first applied it looks glossy and fresh but as the day continues the gloss fades and it leaves a sort of matte stain. If you have drier lips then this formula might make them peel but if your lips are smooth and moisturized then you might not have this problem. I think that this is a great wash of colour for everyday use for people who don’t like a lot of pigment of for people working in a strict environment. The price might be a deal breaker for some but other than that this isn’t a terrible product.

Had this for about 2 weeks and I’m not a big fan of lipstick but I kinda like this one especially for everyday use.
PROS:
Smooth application
No fragrance (or close to none)
Not very pigmented*
Lovely packaging (top of the cap is transparent)
Buildable
CONS:
Not very pigmented*
Doesn’t last very long
If lips are already dry it will peel them but if well moisturized this problem doesn’t occur

EDIT: Either my lips got used to it as they stopped peeling within a couple of days of use or this lipstick/balm is doing something. Hence repurchase (the colour is great for me, inoffensive and can be reapplied without a mirror. The tube lasted me about 2 months of everyday use) and more lippies added to my original review. Still, could be more hydrating for the lips and more pigmented! Let’s see how it works in winter.
Original review:
In short – the new formula is PANTS. These will make your lips peel like crazy!
Two stars as it has a nice, hefty yet still compact packaging (a metal tube with a translucent plastic top that allows you to see the colour in case you’ve made a mistake and bought more than one) and a good colour selection (I’ve bought 84 Immediat which is a subtle, transparent peachy pink, giving just a hint of colour, barely there, natural makeup) and a lack of fragrance.
The formula however leaves a lot to be desired. It does not stay on the lips (I had to reapply a million times which also suggests this lippie is not going to last long and it is already £31!) which would be fine by me if it took care of my lips. Well, it does not, it makes my lips much worse. It dries them out so that they start to peel and almost hurt, together creating a pretty ugly look of pigment clutching on to peeling skin on the lips.

Compared to the Rouge Coco Shine, i was very happy to hear Chanel upgraded the formula. This is more pigmented and less streaky in comparison. Though longevity is still not there. Stays on for about 1.5 hours and it def wont withstand a meal or drinking.
The Flash formula was “expected” to be even more moisturizing since its upgraded. It is very emollient thus with all the added oils, it tends to have too much slide and dissapear very fast. Be careful capping these, i tend to always nick the top of the lipstick with the cap.
-53 Chicness: nude warm brown. Its a sheer Mac Velvet Teddy imo(a little more brown and less pink, less ashy than VT). This is a really nice mlbb shade. i was comtemplating on 53 Chicness or 54 Boy. I have Boy in the Shine formula and wanted to try something new. Also 54 Boy tends to wash me out in certain lightings because its more mauve and pale on my skin.. I blindly bought Chicness and i am not 100% satisfied about it. the color makes my lips look full but leans a bit too yellow brown for my taste.
Edit – Went out to try some more in store. i swatched Moment and Casual on my hands and werent really into them as much as i thought i would, so i tried on the next 4.
– 54 Boy in the new Rouge Coco Flash formula and the color was quite disappointing. It washed me out and i look like i had no color to my face. mauves tend to look purple on my pale yellow skin and Its not as healthy of a lip color. 54 Boy would look great on porcelain skin or if you are looking for a nude. It is not a mlbb shade for my skin.
– 202 Warm Up top coat- the orange one and it looked way too warm/tangerine on my skin. i look a little clownish and i immediately wiped this off after trying it on. It was too much orange, made me look sick.
-90 Jour, gave this one a try because i wanted something with a little more color. Jour packs a punch without being in your face. The color is a neutral mid toned pink coral grapefruit. its very hard to describe but very wearable with some color to it. it isnt a nude or brown. The color starts to dissapear within 30 minutes but it does leave behind a nice stain but I didnt love it enough to keep this.
-84 Immediat is peachy pinky nude with a hint of peach that brightens my complexion without washing me out and looks healthy. Its an innocent peachy pink candy color that almost reminds me of Nars Orgasm. This unfortunately does not last long because its such a sheer and natural color.
106 Dominant – this is a red bean deep crimson color that looks super healthy and juicy on asian skin when it is lightly applied in a thin layer. it isn’t too pink or too brown. It can be worn sheer or intense. I prefer wearing this shade blotted, it does get patchy and dissapears in the inner lip area so I use my fingers and blend it so its more natural and even. It loses its glossiness but I prefer it as a stain. The faded color is sort of a cherry popsicle stained look. This stays on longer than the nudes ive tried and fades more gracefully. A matte version of this would be Rouge Vie 58 Rouge Allure Velvet
The major downsides to these are 1. Longevity and 2. It doesnt keep the lips hydrated. My lips will peel and feel chapped once this dissapears and it doesnt take much for it to fade. 3 it gets nicked by the cap VERY easily and takes out a chunk of lipstick. I am very on the fence about repurchasing even though i do like the way it looks and feels in the beginning of application.
The only one i kept and still use is 106 Dominant, its one of the better darker shades. i recommend getting a slightly dark shade because it becomes a stain after it fades and they fade evenly. the nudes just simply dissapear without a trace and leaves a weird dry patchyness. i highly recommend starting off with a smooth base and moisturized lips. if the lips has any type of dry skin or dryness this will look bad and fade patchy
I tried so hard to Love these but I always end up frustrated. I’ve given up on this formula
