I have a mini size of this and I don’t know how to finish it as it smells horrible! To me it smells like cat food along with a balsamic component. I also do not find it more effective than other cleansing balms so I just do not understand the hype. Definitely not buying again. I think I ‘ll keep on purchasing the “the body shop” one which retails for a fraction of the price compared to this.

I will add my voice to the pantheon of the reviewing crowd.
I have been a devoted lover/user of Erno Laszlo products, I adore the square-shaped plastic bottles especially the four-ounce size because that was the original plastic that the good doctor used. I know I am som far-off Eve Lom subject. Back I go to my review.
Upon thoroughly looking at my skin in a magnifying mirror(horror of horrors)I came to the conclusion that I was overdue for a change. As one might guess I read every review on many sites. I looked at Nordstrom but of course, Make-up Alley was my first stop so I hit the ground running. I found a six-ounce jar on eBay for under sixty dollars, somehow I knew this would work for me…and it did.
I do miss using an astringent, but truly no matter how I try to convince myself, astringent, which contains alcohol is too much my skin. After the very thorough cleansing, which I love, I followed the directions to the letter and found the experience(that’s what it is)to be so luxurious that I particularly look forward to using this when I’ve had a long or tiring day.
I have only been using the cleanser for five nights so obviously it is far too soon to make a final determination but my instinct tells me that I am probably right.
One final opinion, I love the scent and how it blossoms with the warm, wet cloth, which by the way I have been using a microfiber dusting/household one till the mislin ones arrived and frankly I prefer the looped microfiber, probably because it holds more of the steam on the face, which is a good thing.
Update: I am still very impressed with this cleanser, in fact even more so since I wrote my earlier review. I was concerned that using just this one cream instead of my Erno Laszlo oil, then forty splashes of hot water, would cause any congestion on my nose or chin and am happy to report there is no clogging of pores anywhere on my face.

The price for this legendary cleansing balm is outrageous but I found an “Iconic Cleanse Ornament” (a .7 ounce jar of the cleanser and a muslin cloth) for $19.99 at Marshalls and grabbed it up. The .7 ounce cleanser (the mini) sells for $32 at Sephora in Canada and the muslin cloth is almost $10, so what I paid was a pretty good value. I really do like the balm and whole process of using a hot cloth to soften the product and help it melt and cleanse my skin. I find the hot cloth and the scent of the cleanser to be very soothing and I like the whole process. But honestly, for the price – well, I can get the same results using The Body Shop’s chamomile cleanser and one of their muslin clothes at a small fraction of what this stuff costs. Both balms are to be applied to dry skin but I find this cleanser drags and pulls more than I like and doesn’t melt and spread around as nicely or smoothly as the one from The Body Shop. So unless I manage to find Eve Lom seriously marked down again (I did once see a full sized jar at Marshalls for a steep but still much reduced price but didn’t buy it as I knew the reviews for this were not all that glowing), I would not repurchase.

I like this, my sister recommended it so I got a small tub, it smells nice, texture is smooth…easy to apply and remove.

I don’t want to throw it in the bin because the price. That’s why I tried this cleanser so many times . It broke me out at every single time. I hate this product. Trust me, don’t waste money on it.
spiritedBaboon2
It’s fine, non-irritating and non-drying. It seems to be mostly mineral oil from looking at the ingredients, which is fairly inert. It’s slightly exfoliating when used with the cloth – my peeling gel didn’t have any peel-off after a week of this. I don’t see any brightening or redness reduction using this, which is what l’d hoped for.

I have this cleanser as a sample and it´s a NO for sensitive or allergic very dry skin!
After 3 uses Iwoke up with about five big red itchy bumps on my face and as I dint´t change anything else in my routine, I can only blame Eve lom.
So, although I love how it cleanses the skin and the whole ritual, I won´t use this one anymore.
Also, I don´t think that everyday exfoliating with the cloth is good for sensitive skin.

I love this cleanser, its simple, thin, foams really well, no scent, cheaper than cerave foaming cleanser and its gentle and great for prepping skin before bp treatment. I use the cleanser, bp , jojoba oil(oil cleanse) and aha 10% from acne.org and its saved my skin. I was so embarrassed of stepping out the house without makeup. After 2 months i literally only have acne scars that ive gotten from trying the horrible curology regime. I hated curology, it ruined my face. anyways, this is a staple in my routine, id recommend. Ive tried a lot of cleansers and this is the best. Ive tried first aid beauty, checks and balances from origins, cerave, clean and clear, neutrogena. you name it. Def worth a shot if you like gentle cleaners that wont strip the skin and really does its job!!!

I have oily, sensitive, and acne-prone skin, and it’s so hard to find products that suit my skin well. Although the cleanser does a great job in removing makeup and giving you the squeaky clean feeling, it broke me out. They were tiny pimples throughout my face, but largely situated on my forehead. I’ve realized that I’m sensitive to formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, which this products contains, and can cause dermatitis. It took me three months of using this product to realize it was this cleanser causing it because it was the only thing that changed in my regimen. Once I stopped using it, I saw immediate improvement in a week.

I started getting acne in my teenage years. Tried a lot of products to clear my acne and acne scars from the Black African soap to Kojie-san lighting soap to derma roller etc. Before I come across this product I bought myself the Benzac 2.5% Benyoyl Peroxide which is similar to this. It works a miracle and then I met this product through youtube. Decided to try it as I find it more secure to use the same brand product range for better results.
I bought the kit that comes with the pump cleanser, tube treatment (2.5% benzoyl peroxide) and pump moisturiser. I also purchased the AHA+ to help with my old acne scars.
I LOVE THIS CLEANSER. You do not need much effort scrubbing your face. You just placed a little on your palm and start making bubbles/foam and just spread around your face effortlessly for 10 seconds. After washing off, YOUR FACE FEELS SO CLEAN. The cons of this product is, it is very pricey. I stay in Singapore and the shipping cost a bomb. So after this bottle, I stopped and tried finding another similar gentle cleanser. I started using Cetaphil however it did not give me similar satisfying results which is why, I END UP BUYING ANOTHER BOTTLE OF THIS GOODNESS! This is a must try. Feel for yourself. This is the best cleanser I have ever used. THUMBS UP!
As I mentioned, I bought the kit therefore I will review the other products separately. Cheers!

This does everything I could want a cleanser to do. I don’t care to have too much fanciness going on with my cleansers since you’re washing it right off. Removes makeup well and is extremely affordable.
sincereShads4
I love this cleanser!! The lather is incredible & it gets all my makeup off. It’s also really inexpensive on amazon which I appreciate since you don’t have to go out of your way to order it.

I bought this regimen for my son. I had high hopes, but it seemed to make his skin worse. I switched to a cleanser with no SLS as I am allergic to it myself. I am so frustrated, but he has a prescription from his doctor along with a new sls free cleanser and oil free moisturizer. I am hoping they will work. I hate acne:(
cruelThrushe5
I absolutely love this product. It did wonders for my skin. I know some people are hesitant to try this regimen because they are scared to go without makeup. I figured out how you don’t have to! 🙂
I hope this video helps someone.

although this was a very mild cleanser, it did make my skin a bit tight and contributed to a couple of hives i had on my face. I would recommend this to those who have oilier/combination skin but not for those who may have normal to dry skin!
sugaryOtter4
Great cleanser if you have oily, sensitive, and break out prone skin. This on its own will not heal your acne, at least it didn’t for me, but it’s great to use if you’re using topical acne medications. This will not irritate or dry out your skin! I didn’t give it a 5 rating because it smells like nail polish remover, and this will not take off any heavy foundation, or even a lighter foundation. You definitely need a cleansing oil before using this if you’re a foundation wearer.
needyGelding1
There’s not a ton of ingredients, it’s Fragrance Free and doesn’t dry out or irritate my skin. It’s my favorite cleanser for the past 5 years.

I love spectro jel and have been using it for years, I love that is gentle but effective and super simple. I am a makeup artist and have tried everything skin care from brand to brand and I always come back to my spectro. I have also used the blue one that’s lightly scented and it’s great too! Not a big fan of the dry skin formula or the combo skin formula doesn’t clean like the original!
lovesickLocust6
I LOVE Spectro cleanser! I have sensitive skin and a mild case of rosacea, and I have tried lots of cleansers over the years, but I keep coming back to Spectro. Many years ago, a dermatologist recommended this to me and it really is the best cleanser for my skin. I also use the Spectro moisturizer too. This line is definitely the best for my sensitive skin. I highly recommend the Spectro line of products for anyone with sensitive skin. It does not lather, so some people might miss the feeling of a lathery soap, but after awhile you get used to it and trust me the results are worth it.

I wanted to wait a month before I wrote a review on this product, but, I couldn’t help myself I had to write a review earlier. I have combination, sensitive, oily, acne-prone skin. Most acne products make my skin dry out, very red, and in some cases break out more. spectro jel is gentle but effective. It’s only been a week, but my skin has cleared up nicely so far, doesn’t dry out my skin at all. So far, so good.

I have been using this stuff for years and it is pretty great. It is very gentle, non-drying and works very well as a makeup remover if you put it on dry and wipe off with a tissue. If you are expecting a deep cleaning, foaming soap-style cleanser this is not it. It is a gel that does not foam at all and it does take a good massage to really get into your skin. This is the trade-off for something so gentle and non-drying: sometimes it just doesn’t give you that squeaky clean feeling that you want. But it is very good at balancing out combination skin and gentle enough for very sensitive skin. It is a very good deal for the amount of product that you get. The packaging is great on the larger bottles that come with the pump, and a little tricker on the smaller squeeze bottles as the product tends to dry up in the spout and then you have to squeeze/explode it out. It is unscented though it does have a distinct smell that some people might be put off by though I don’t really mind it. Everyone with acne, combination, or very sensitive skin should give this a try!

I couldn’t agree with Terese4444 more. It smells like “stinky weeds”. This is downright foul smelling. To the point where I couldn’t believe I actually went through with giving it a try. It is nothing special, and I’d never reach for it again, ever, not even if it was given to me for free. The sample packet I had was more than I needed to know I would never purchase this. It didn’t really foam up, which I don’t actually find to be a must when cleansing my face but this was probably the least pleasurable cleansing experience I’ve ever had. Two thumbs down. Yuck!

I went to Marshalls ONLY FOR body lotion .Wah wah. We all know cant walk into Marshalls for one item.
I saw this in a package for $50 which is amazing because came with a serum and lotion ad i know this is pricy, usually $70 + for just the cleanser. So point is, id of never tried this full price even though id read the hype for a while. Ive also never tried cleansing balms. I must say my face looks amazing. Its a little more work than regular cleanser but the cloth really opens up my pores, my skin is truly clean, it tingles. I look bright and awake and it really truly cleans. I am ok with the smell and okay with the extra steps because it makes me feel feminine and luxurious like i am getting an at home facial.

Smells like stinky weeds! It would have been a 4 or 5 stars had it not been for the STRONG smell. I’m not at all scent sensitive but this stuff is over the top smelly, so much so that I’m afraid it might stick with me.

******** Edited August 18th 2016:
I don’t use this product anymore. It was just too drying for my skin. This doesn’t change the fact that this is still a good cleanser that I would recommend for some skin type.

FYI: I don’t follow the Acne.org Regimen/This review is based on the Acne.org Cleanser alone.
I agree with the reviews saying that this cleanser made their skin drier… You do get a little bit dry if you rub too much and for too long or/and if you don’t moisturize after. I just make sure to be gentle and moisturize. Sometimes, it’s still a little bit dry after (drier during the winter), but it’s not too bad. I haven’t found my HG cleanser, but this is the only one that is close…Doesn’t clog my pores and cleans my face really well. Also, it’s expensive to buy online for me but still okay since I buy the big bottles (16 oz.) which last for a while.
I don’t wear makeup, I just use sunscreen in the morning and moisturizer at night. I have sensitive/combination skin – acne-prone (skin is more dry during the winter but still gets oily in the t-zone, a little bit more oily during the summer… I don’t have very oily skin)
This cleanser doesn’t remove well zinc based moisturizer, water-resistant sunscreen or heavy mineral sunscreen. You will have to double-cleanse or use a makeup remover before.
I don’t recommend this cleanser if you have dry to very dry skin. Even with my combination skin I sometimes get dry skin after washing my face with this cleanser. Except if you moisturize a lot, I don’t think this cleanser will work for drier skin in the long term.

I really love this cleanser- it’s become my most reliable cleanser out of everything I use.
I wasn’t too fond of it at first because I didn’t really know if it really cleaned my face or not because there isn’t particularly a lot of lather. However, one day I decided to try this again and it took off all my face makeup and waterproof eye makeup without stinging my eyes!! So I’ve been using it ever since that day (a year or two ago) or so and I’m on my 3rd bottle.
Ever since I started using this, my acne went from being there to being practically non-existent (I follow up with acne.org’s treatment). It has no scent either, and it just keeps my skin clear. Nothing more I could ask for 🙂 I just kind of hate having to order it online, but it works well so I keep doing so anyway.

ok so for the first time i used it it made my skin feel good but in two days of using it it just dried my skin out and made me breakout to places i havent broken out before.ill stick to my good old cetaphil.

I had tried Spectro on and off when I was a teenager and really didn’t like it. I wanted a cleanser that was foamy, felt like it was getting down and deep cleaning my pores, drying out my acne and scrubbing it away. I wanted it to be medicinal and maybe even sting a little on my acne to ‘feel’ like it was working. I loved cleansers that left my skin feeling tight after, and I didn’t want to use some ‘gel’ like solution that didn’t feel like it did anything to my skin at all. For people who suffer from acne, I think we get so angry and frustrated with our skin we just want to aggressively scrub all the bad stuff off. I stripped my skin for years believing that was how to get rid of my acne. I didn’t give my own skin enough credit to take care of itself and had no idea that what I was doing was probably just making the problem worse. It’s no wonder my breakouts used to be so bad.
For the last couple years I have learned to be a little more gentle to my skin, but my cleansers still contained some harsh ingredients. When I ran out of face wash a couple weeks ago, I went to the store and decided to try something new. And what do ya know, Spectro was on sale! The cheap devil on my shoulder couldn’t resist even though I knew how much a hated it in my teens. Well, long story short, I’m so glad I gave this another try. My skin has been so dry for so long and after using this it is so soft and moisturized. Even my red areas are not so noticeable and I think it’s because I have greatly reduced all the irritation I have been subjecting my skin to. I’ve decided to put my faith back in my skin to do the work for me with out stripping its natural barrier everyday. No pimples since I’ve been using this, yay! I think the philosophy is working.
Also as a side note. One of the things I didn’t like about Spectro is that I didn’t feel it was removing my make up. A good tip I read from someone else was to massage it into your skin with out water and then wipe off all the make up with a tissue. Then go back in and clean with Spectro again as normal with water. It takes a little extra time but I only have to do it at night and because it’s not messy at all, I can just remove my make up in front of the tv and then go wash my face when I’m ready. Hope this helps 🙂
relievedOil8
The best cleanser I have ever used! (and believe me, I’ve tried many!) I believe what makes this cleanser so special is that it really does protect your skins moisture barrier. Preventing dryness prevents breakouts and leaves your skin glowing. Such a great product. I use this along with St. Ives facial exfoliator and my skin is the best its ever been, hardly ever get a pimple 🙂
thriftyLocust3
So first off this is a good price for the quantity you get.
It was impossible to find any cleanser that could combat my acne, I was angry that I couldn’t find a way.
I have used spectro in the past but I gave up within a week or two because if felt like nothing was happening but this time I really stuck to it after reading reviews and it was worth it!
I have only been using spectro for a month now and 95% of my acne is gone. If I do get breakouts they are tiny and go away quickly and I’m sure with prolonged use they will completely disappear. My skin feels so much better and I am more confident now! Its easier to go out with friends and not worry about my face.
You might not get drastic results fast but you really need to give spectro a chance. It really does work and my skin doesn’t dry out at all. It seems like it does nothing when you use it but it really does help a lot! So don’t let the fact that it doesn’t take make up off well or foam like soap or smell super great put you off. Just get something else to get the makeup off then use spectro. Its the best product out there for fighting acne and I’m so glad I bought it.
