If you can get a very fresh Highliner gel crayon and manage to keep it very tightly capped, I think it’s a pretty good product. The problem is that the mini-size deluxe samples often found in Ipsy bags, Sephora rewards, etc,. are probably old stock and so they dry out very quickly. The silver cap, although pretty, is not tight enough to keep the product airtight. You’re apt to run into a eyeliner that drags and crumbles on the lashline or lashes. My mini size is not very old, but it is now sticky and goopy like the product turned. For the brief time I owned Blacquer before it went off, I liked the concentrated pigment that didn’t budge once applied. I think that Marc Jacobs can tweak both the formula and packaging of this product and put out a bomb eyeliner. Until they do, however; I’m not going to purchase another one.

No not as good as I thought. It dries out very easy. Even if the cap goes on right away. Over time it’s not as smooth. It runs out quick as well. Better out there

I hated this eyeliner. Doesnt go on smooth and hard to work with..

This is smudge proof, for the most part (smudges on my oily lids in hot, humid weather), but it is too thick (no sharpener) and not smooth enough to apply. It drags and hurts my skin and doesn’t blend very well. Also, it seems to dry up in the tube rather quickly. The price is also nothing to write home about.

I got a mini size of this from a promotion at Sephora, and I have to say, I’m glad I didn’t buy these.
Pros: stays on all day, creates a very black line.
Cons: it’s chunky, thick and not particularly versatile, hard to remove, hard to apply (I had to press it down hard and draw repeatedly to get even a semi decent even line), bits of the product get easily caught in the lashes.
Overall, using this was an uncomfortable (my poor eyelids getting dragged by both this liner and the cotton pad afterwards to remove it) and messy experience. However, once you get through the hassle of applying, it does look striking and does not budge, so it’s not too bad of a product altogether. It was a nice experiment, but I’ll stick to my trusty Stila smudge sticks. I’d give it a 2.5 if I could.

hard to apply and to remove it plus can’t use it on my waterline.

I went into Sephora looking for a retractable eyeliner and everyone was all about this, so I tried it!
I just am not impressed! The thickness is to thick and gives you a bulky line. They offer a skinny one but it’s the same price for 1/2 the quantity, which I think is dumb.
I will say it stays but you have to be sooo careful putting it on because it won’t move after it dries.
Wouldn’t buy it again.

It doesn’t stay on at all. Forget about tightlining or putting this liner on the lower waterline, it won’t last for more than 2 hours. On the plus side, it’s intensely black and the packaging is luxe.
But overall it’s not worth the money.
Marc’ Matte Highliners are awesome and long lasting but the “regular” ones were disappointment. (I own three shades including Blacquer).

I’m a brown skinned (NC40-45) Indian girl who puts on a full face and treks 2 km to work in heat and humidity. Everything better hold up or I reach office looking like it’s already the end of the day.
I tend to compare every black eyeliner in the world to my trusty Chambor Dazzle (twist-up pencil) and Catrice (gel pot) because they’re black, stubbornly smudgeproof and cheap enough to do multiple swipes without going broke.
The Highliner is black enough and smudgeproof enough. That stunning silver pencil makes you feel like you’re giving yourself a treat every time you use it. But there’s so little bang for your buck that I’d stay with my older favourites – they do the same thing for less.
I can buy four Dazzles for the price of one Highliner. And I go through one entire Highliner at about the same speed.
So until Mr Jacobs changes his game, I’m not changing mine.

i purchased this as it was a recommended by a sales associate. I was looking for a black eyeliner for my waterline that will last and not give me “raccoon eyes”. this eyeliner was exactly what I was looking for BUT i lost the cap and it dried out the tip 🙁 luckily it didnt dry the whole liner. I had to cut off the tip to use the rest of it. so learn from me: do not lose the cap!! the price is pretty steep, but it is the only eyeliner that works well for me, especially for my waterline, so I’m willing. Currently using the second eyeliner.
