I had been dying to try Menagerie Cosmetics for ages, but was waiting for the right release to do it. That opportunity finally came with Violet Ink, an all purple micro palette! For $19.99 you get six shades (four mattes and two shimmers) in a magnetic palette that closes securely, with a good mirror, and the most beautiful artwork. The adorably small size and gorgeous artwork alone makes it a tempting purchase. Onto the eyeshadows themselves: they are all insanely pigmented. All of the mattes I found to be highly pigmented and easy to blend, although the two darkest shades (Octopi and Ink Jet) had quite a lot of kick up in the pan. I also found that a couple of the mattes tend to stain the skin, but that does not bother me. The two shimmers are a bit different. Three Hearts applies very easily and smoothly. Mimic, however, came off a bit chunky and crumbly in the pan. It seems to be very sheer when you try to apply it. I found that the only way to get an opaque application of the shade was to use glitter glue and your finger to apply it. I found Mimic difficult to pick up with any brush and regardless of whether it was wet or dry. It definitely requires a solid primer under it. Mimic is also not fond of layering – I tried to layer it over Three Hearts and it did not show up. Aside from the issues with this one shade, I absolutely adore the other eyeshadows in the palette. They are all unique shades that hold up fabulously and are well worth the money. I would strongly recommend this palette to anyone looking for some great purple shades!
