I just read that it takes 5 usages for this to build volume on your hair, BTW. I used it once and it DID really smooth out my highlighted hair to make it look healthy, but did nothing for volume. I’m being serious here, but I’ll use it on my horse’s tangled/dried out mane and tail!

I initially bought this when I had a pixie. I’ve since grown my hair to a shoulder length lob of very fine but thick hair. I still reach for this on the days that I dry my hair. I like that it helps to hold some volume but isn’t too stiff or sticky. I’ll most likely repurchase.

This product, along with all the other products in the Volume Filler line, really does seem to work–and I say that as someone too lazy to use this as directed, i.e., before blow drying. Instead, I tend to work this matte goo into my roots before going to sleep with damp hair. When I do this, my hair is noticeably more voluminous the next morning. I’m sure it works even better if you use it properly. (In fact, I know it does because when I first got this, I did use it before blow drying a few times.) I haven’t had any problems with this making my hair greasy, despite the silicone-y texture (it feels like face primer) and although I occasionally use too much.
On to the cons: The smell. As others have noted, this product has a stereotypically men’s product smell. I don’t hate it, but I wish it weren’t so strong and that it faded faster. Also, none of the other products in the Volume Filler line smell like this–why doesn’t it match? I am irrationally bothered by this.
The packaging. I like the look of the packaging (a sleek purple tube), but the almost holographic label started peeling almost immediately after I got it. My tube has lasted me ages, which would be a good thing if it didn’t mean I had to look at the ugly peeling label for ages. A minor concern but a concern nonetheless.
The price is good (I think I paid around $6 for my tube), and L’Oreal hair products are often on sale. As mentioned, a tube lasts a long time as you only need a small amount. I’m finally nearing the end of mine and I am considering repurchasing. The only thing stopping me would be the desire to get through my stockpile of other volumizing products.

Turned my fine hair into an oil slick. Gross.

Took me two years to use this up but I rotate a lot of hair products. It is a very thick gel. If I used too much, it made my hair feel really heavy. It gave me just as much volume as every other volume product I use. Won’t repurchase. Weird thing but I liked the smell of it.

I slept at my moms house and took a shower and found this in her bathroom. I would never buy it because volume stuff in dry curly hair is just a big no no. I really was expecting some serious crunchy full hair. After I put it on, I smelled mens aftershave, like my dads Old Spice. Whoa!! OK, so back to my hair. It was actually thicker, smooth and nice curls….whaaaat? Big surprise. Gotta buy some now. But oh dear how my stomach is not liking the smell. It’s 10:00pm and the scent is still going strong.

Really impressed with this stuff. Gives my hair volume and fullness, love it. It really does look like I’ve got fuller hair. I apply it sparingly, you don’t need a lot. Easy to find, very affordable.
One thing about the scent, yes, it’s pretty strong and unique and thought I’d rather it be vanilla or something, I’m ok with it because the results are THAT good!

Had to throw this away after a couple of uses. Feels like glue on my hair, makes it sticky and matte. I didn’t feel that it improved the fullness/thickness of my hair.

This stuff is awesome for fine hair. I love TIGI Bed Head products, but they’re so expensive. I had been using cheap root lifting mousses and sprays, which left my hair sticky and dull. I figured I would go back to TIGI, but I saw the reviews on this gel, so I tried it and I’m hooked.
This gives my hair smoothness, softness, shine, volume and lift. I wash and style my hair at night, sleep with it gathered on the top of my head with a scrunchy, and the next day, my hair looks and feels thicker, and I have volume at the crown all day. This stuff is amazing. I’ve never had this much lift for so long with any other product.
A lot of people have complained about the scent, which does smell like men’s cologne, but I actually like it and it doesn’t bother me. If you’re sensitive to scents, this product might smell too strong.

This stuff is great. My hair feels so fluffy, and I blow dried and straightened (two heat treatments!) and it was still silky smooth. It really does give some nice bounce and volume. I can feel the difference on my head. Sounds weird, I know, but when you have fine, flat hair like I do, feeling a little lift is a big deal. I’m planning on using it every time I blow dry, and I’ll probably buy another to keep in my gym bag. Due to the price, I totally can.
The only reason it’s not 5 lippies is because 1) I’ve only used it one time so far, and 2) It really does stink. It’s not strong, but when you get a whiff of it, it’s not a pleasant smell. Someone described it as bad 80s cologne, and I think that’s pretty accurate. It’s kind of reminiscent of a bad men’s Avon scent. I’m sure it’s easily masked by other products or perfumes, though.
