I don’t have the history that the other reviewers have, but I gave this a try and this was the most drying shampoo I think I’ve ever tried. At first I thought I would love it, but after an hour my hair was really crunchy. It also irritated me a bit, but that’s not unusual. Returned it.

I remember when this shampoo came out and I used to use it back in the 1970s when I was a young girl. I remember the nice apple fragrance it left behind in my hair. Years later I saw this product again and decided to give it another try for nostalgic reasons.
I have been using this giant 32 ounce bottle for the last year. I can’t use it every day because it can become a little drying over time. However, with that said it makes a wonderful clarifying shampoo. I have fine hair that gets weighed down and this shampoo always brings my hair back to life. It doesn’t contain any silicones or nasty ingredients that build up on your hair. The price of a giant bottle was under $10, which in my book is a fairly decent price for such a giant sized shampoo.
The bottle of shampoo will probably last me forever because I don’t use it every day. I reserve it for weekends when I want to get the gunk out of my hair that has built up over the week with styling products.
This shampoo has been reformulated from the original in the 1970s. The scent is nice, but it no longer lingers in your hair like it used to. They also changed the packaging to a much taller container. The large container used to have a pump on the top which made it nice to use. Now you have to squirt it into your hand, and wrestling with such a large bottle can be cumbersome at times.
I will continue to purchase this shampoo as long as I can find it though, just as a build up remover shampoo.

When I was a child in the 80s, my mother’s stylist (who sometimes also cut my hair) used Apple Pectin shampoo, conditioner, and perm solution in her salon. I bought this shampoo at Sally Beauty Supply because seeing and smelling it reminded me of my earliest salon experiences. It cleans well and does not build up on my hair, since it doesn’t contain any silicones, polyquaterniums, or any other ingredients that can cause build up. This is important to me because my fine hair gets weighed down and flat very easily from the slightest amount of build up. However, the shampoo can also be a bit drying. Because of this, once my giant liter-sized bottle is gone, I do not expect to repurchase.
