The shampoo is red, but it didn’t add any red color to my hair. It also made my scalp itch. I use the matching conditioner, which does add red to my hair and doesn’t irritate my scalp.

I colour my hair with henna, but bought this when I used semi-permanent dye, and needed a boost (Henna works very well for me, no fading!) I like this as a shampoo, and it’s nice product, works well, but completely w/o bells and whistles. I don’t think id adds colour, but I do believe that it won’t strip any colour. (The conditioner does add a TON of colour)
I don’t have particually damaged hair, not too dry, I don’t have a problem with a greazy scalp (though my scalp is very sensitive), and this works fine.
The bottle is HUGE! I wish it was availible in a smaller size. The smell is AWFUL! I hate it, but not enough to make me stop using it, so it cant be that bad. It smells like synthetic cherries, and I don’t care for authenic cherris either.
All in all: Nice, basic shampoo that comes in a huge bottle that will last you for ages, making it economical, but maybe a little boring if you like me like to change up the products you use. HUGE PRO: Didn’t irritate my sensitive scalp.

I’ve been using this for about 6/7 years now. I don’t have color treated hair and have been using the madder root shampoo and conditioner as a substitute for hair coloring. This definitely leaves a pigment–it stains your shower and your towels–but I don’t have to use chemicals to add a subtle tint of color to my hair, which leaves my hair both healthy and naturally streaked all year round. By using this every day, you are naturally tinting your hair color a little every day without drying it out with peroxide or other hair coloring chemicals.
