   If you ever plan on visiting Thailand anytime soon, I totally recommend picking this cleanser up at any of the numerous 7-11 convenience stores. It’s really one of the best non-stripping cleansers for how incredibly hot and humid the climate can be. I love how incredibly clean and smooth my skin gets with the cleanser with none of the stripped feeling – a pretty incredible task considering how much dirt, sweat, and pollution will accumulate on the skin if you are busy sightseeing in, say, Bangkok.

   The texture feels like a cream cleanser and on application, it doesn’t foam up at all. It feels like a lotion until you rinse it off, and what you have left is clean skin (not squeaky) that feels lightly moisturized – which is perfect when you live in a humid country. I know I sound crazy but even for my oily skin, this facial wash balances my skin out incredibly well.

   It’s quite inexpensive in the country, but definitely worth picking up if you live in a hot and humid climate. I love having a wardrobe of different cleansers but this one is quite special – I’ve already gone through two tubes of it, having lived in Southeast Asia for a while now.

   This is my family’s Holy Grail of facial cleansers. Smooth E doesn’t seem to be a well-known brand internationally but is apparently a household name in Thailand, where this brand is from and marketed only to. My sister first heard of it through one of their comedic, Thai commerical-drama series that have gone viral on social media and we thought it was so funny we gave the product a try (great reason, right?). So one $8 eBay purchase later for a small 4oz tube, she and I can’t live without this cleansing foam.

   My sisters and I had the teenage misfortune of overly acneic skin and most treatments recommended by doctors were too strong for our skin and only made it worse. By the time I was in college mine was starting to naturally clear up, but I still had sporadic breakouts and my youngest sister was going into high school and flaring up like a lot of teens were. Cysts, white heads, opened blemishes… the works!

   We both used the Smooth E foam at the same time and while the results weren’t happening overnight, or even for a week, we both found that the foam was very comfortable to use and seemed to clear up our blemishes gently and with no scarring. It’s marketed as a non-bubbling, “soap-free” foam, as the bubbles are attributed to over-cleaning and over-drying the skin. So this gel-cream does fluff slightly but doesn’t lather up into bubbles like other cleansers (including Asian foam cleansers) usually do.

   Other claims are that it is pH-balancing and non-comedogenic. I’m not the best judge of the effectiveness of these two claims since I am no dermatologist. But if my skin is oily and resilient and my sister’s is the polar opposite–dry and sensitive–and we both never looked like we ever had acne in our life after using this religiously for 3+ years, something has to be right about that pH-balancing claim!

   Since it is a toner and moisturizer as well, my sister and I have skipped applying these additional products other than an exfoliant in the morning prior to this and maybe a serum and eye make-up remover in the evening. She’s stuck to 1-2 product regimen and has incredibly clear skin and no need for makeup. I’ve deviated every now and then and tried other Asian cleansers (Hadalabo/Sana/Naive from Japan, Skinfood/The Face Shop/Etude House from Korea) and always find myself coming back to this one. My mom’s been amazed at the results and bought (10) 8oz tubes of these in Thailand and brought them back to the USA.

   The only downside is that outside of Thailand, this is very hard to obtain at a fair price as the eBay sellers double or triple the retail price according to my mom. Some sellers price the 8oz tube at $8 online, but they only speak Thai. My mom bought an 8oz tube at a shop in Thailand for $15 in 2014 when the exchange rate shot up. And a 4oz tube on eBay is anywhere from $5 to $13). Despite the price fluctuations, this was our biggest skincare turn-around and is worth every dollar invested.
