Overpriced Tinted Chapstick. Compared to the old formula I feel like I’m getting less lipstick and half a 99c chapstick. The new pointed teardrop shape I love. It looks elegant and it does make it easier to get a crisp lipline 🙂 But the “moisturising core” is a cheap gimmick, bringing the usual problems of having a sheer portion.
001 Barely is a barely there sheer pale pink. Sheer, patchy, cakey, collects badly in liplines, and emphasizes dry patches. Its unwearable for me but I have been able to wear it by applying at night and overnight to test the anti-aging claims of plumping and defining liplines over time.
004 Canoodle is a peachy beige nude. It goes on evenly and has better pigmentation. It is deeper than Barely so it doesn’t cake in liplines, but it does emphasizes lines and dry patches. It fades quickly and needs to be re-applied every few hours.
These “reshaping” lipsticks are sheer as a large portion is basically chapstick, making poor pigmentation and poor definition. I have found I’m burning through these lipsticks faster for it to show up, and I have to apply more frequently. Because part is sheer and part pigmented, it goes on uneven and patchy. It takes longer swiping back and forth to apply evenly. And the waxy chapstick-ness of the formula is actually LESS moisturising than the old formula. Its sits on the surface of lips and slides around in a waxy coating. Doesn’t melt or sink in and actually makes my lips look MORE dry and wrinkly and aged. The claims that it or enhances lip definition “over time” hasn’t worked for me. I’ve used these day and night for a month. The only thing I’ve noticed is they get used up more quickly than the old formula, so they are more a tinted chapstick for me.
If a lipstick is going to be sheer and moisturising, I prefer it to melt into lips and plump them, like the Guerlain Rouge Automatique range. If I want a re-shaping lipstick that creates lip definiton I like Benefit They’re Real Double the Lip range. The one with the pointed teardrop tip (same as Clinique) that is slightly darker than the rest it creates an effect as if you have used a lipliner. Its seems like a gimmic but it does work once you figure to flip the stick around when doing the bottom lip.

I just discovered this lipstick on recommendation from a salesperson at Lord and Taylor. I love it. My lips were dry and chapped and putting this product on made them feel immediately better. I purchased #26 Vintage which is a basic rose color that looks nice with my dark hair and eyes and pale skin. I found it to be very comfortable and smooth and it faded to a nice stain. I’m looking forward to getting more colors in this line. Highly recommend

I didn’t like these lipsticks. I much preferred the Long Last lipsticks, which they replaced with the shaping lipsticks. Only some of the Long Last lipstick shades were carried over into the new formula. And with the new formula, you get less actual color because part of the lipstick is a white moisturizer core, BUT the price is higher than that of the Long Last lipsticks. So for me, these shaping lipsticks are a watered-down product. I expect better for the price. I feel as if I saw this moisturizing core idea in a cheap drugstore brand at some point.

I have one of these, which came in a holiday package (on sale, to boot), where I basically ended up getting this with an eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, eye cream and cleansing balm, all in a bag for basically the price of the lipstick. With that kind of deal, it was impossible to resist.
The color that came with this packet is Strut, which is a bright purple-pink. It’s vivid and cheery, and not a color I normally would buy (I prefer pinky nudes), but it’s a happy surprise. It glides on, looks matte without looking dry, and has a good staying power (not super long lasting, but it fades evenly), feels light and while not moisturizing it feels comfy. The color is kind of fun, too, a bright pink with almost a faint blue shimmer. There’s no scent or flavor, typical of Clinique.
Overall I really like it. I wouldn’t repurchase this shade on its own, but I’m definitely eyeing some of the others, as I’m liking the formula that much.

I was a little concerned when I heard that Clinique was revamping their lipsticks, especially when I heard it was going to be one with a core. It often seems that companies go all in on these “revolutionary” formulas to very poor effect, but this stuff is so great. This is lipstick. It’s good old fashioned, nothing matte or crazy, nothing outré, lipstick. It’s a great tube of lipstick that feels incredibly comfortable, like absurdly comfortable, with weightless color and constant moisturization. It is very slick stuff, but it’s not smeary, and there’s no taste or scent (yay!). The pigment level is decent – most are sheerish in the way we expect Clinique lipsticks to be, but there is good color coverage across the three I got and they don’t go on patchy despite the core. The color goes on smoothly and easily and wears down well over two to four hours. I love Pat McGrath’s lipsticks for their bold pigment and gorgeous colors, but those lipsticks need babying during application (at least on my drier lips and against my very pale skin). This is the flip side to that – wearable, comfortable, and easy.
They kept the classic silver tube but it feels a little lighter and cheaper. The bullet itself comes to a very pointed point that extends slightly down into the body of the bullet, presumably for lining purposes. I never use it that way and look forward to it wearing itself down, but it’s not incredibly annoying. I’ve purchased three and might purchase more. The Macy’s I bought these at had the world’s worst tester unit in which the fluting on the tubes kept getting sort of stuck in the little wells and there was little indication of what color was in the tube. The red choices seem to lean toward the very modern bright and pinker end of the spectrum.
Bamboo Pink – grey pink with a touch of lavender and silver
Berry Freeze – deep berry rose
Tenderheart – terra-cotta beige (this seems to have less grey than I remember Tenderheart having, but it’s not an egregious update)

I have been looking around and trying new lipstick formulations. I’m looking for lightweight coverage with moisture and long wear. A leftover stain would be a plus. So I have tried many new lipsticks in my search including this formulation and I love it. It is definitely lightweight and colors are beautiful. If you had Clinique favorites before they have probably been reformulated to this. The lipstick has a moisturizing core which enables the lipstick to go on smoothly but with a satin lightweight coverage. No liner necessary. I get several hours from this lipstick before needing to reapply while drinking water through a straw. It does transfer some but not as bad as some other lipsticks like Hourglass or Bobbi Brown classic. And compared to other brands the price is a deal at $19.
Canoodle: nudey peach
Shy: pink berry
Tenderheart: Nude pink
